Pretty damn close! I'd love to hear one of these with the new Dark Dove Fuzz/Russian Muff if you get the chance!

I’m hearing a nice low end thump in the EXH that I miss in the Helix. The Helix seems to have more midrange, which might sound good in a band, but in this face-off, the Ram’s Head sounded more massive-which is what makes the Big Muff what it is, to me. Helix did a nice job, the distortion itself is pretty close. I wonder if it feels different under the hands.

It feels a bit different, but not much. What I think that the modelling hasn't gotten right yet, is the dynamics of the distortion. The actual pedal reacts to the picking dynamics, while the modeler is always full on.

Have you played with the input setting at all? For fuzz I usually set it to 1k.

I had not, I had left it on auto. I'll try it your way.

Line 6 did a great job on this... I can hear slight difference but maybe it is just in my head...for me the EHX is a little bit more open sounding, a little bit more vintage voiced....the line 6 sound slightly miffled to my ears when you bang in the big chords...tone seperation on the ehx is a little bit better....but like i said...its maybe just in my head...i am not shure if i can seperate the pedals in a blindfold challenge. I am looking for the EHX rams head used since a few months...i realy like the edgy vintage vibe it has to my ears. The video work was great as well. I like it that you show the riffs seperatly for each and then do it again with switching during the riff. For me this is the best way to compare pedals. Thank you for the clip...it confirms my decision to get one of this little rams👍👍

The Rams Head is excellent. I'm actually trying to buy all the Nano Big Muff versions. I think you might have noticed that I love fuzz :)

@@TheToneLounge yes i did...i love fuzz too...thats the reason i found your channel a few months ago...fuzz and vox ac's and equipment what not coast the price half of a house....that was the point where you get me 😂😁👍

you are talking about the creme de la creme of price-friendly multi effects. I'm sure i would utterly fail to a blind test however I would still go for the original because i'd love to have a pedalboard rather than a imitator.

Or you can do like I do: own both! this way you can still play the priceless pedals at home, but bring the workhorse HX Stomp to gigs.

To my ears, there seemed to be a pretty seamless transition between the two leaving me thinking they are really close in sound. And that sound is good! Thanks, another nicely done!

As we are listening in isolation, we can be picky and discern nuances that would be next to impossible to perceive in a band context. I'm a hard believer in the idea that if you can't hear a difference, then go for the option that makes more sense to you. It's a win-win scenario!

I'm impressed with the Line 6. I don't know, they sound pretty much the same to me.

If they sound the same, that means that line 6 did a great job!

I personally would rather have a real rat and a real muff than the stomp versions of them, seems like it's really close, but it misses the depth of tone, or something, words fail me
@TheToneLounge2 жыл бұрын
What I think is missing is the reproduction of the pedal's dynamic response. If I pick light, medium or heavy the pedal will have a different gain structure and respond to my picking dynamics. With the modeling, it's gain remains the same no matter how I pick. I think that is what gives the "digital" away in these types of comparisons.

@@TheToneLounge How is the gain structure changing?
@TheToneLounge2 жыл бұрын
@@ziggyzipgun To my ears, the real pedal cleans up a bit when picking lightly and gets meaner when digging in. The HX Stomp doesn't do that. It stays fullout no matter how you pick.
@ziggyzipgun2 жыл бұрын
@@TheToneLounge I understand that part, and I've found that lower gain settings on the Helix will get more responsive results, and it's important to use the impedance-matching feature, balanced with the Channel Volume of the amp model you're using it with. But I think it's a stretch to say that the gain structure is changing, especially in a fairly straightforward analog circuit.

no contest here real muff has the sound, hx stomp doesn't for me
@TheToneLounge2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, when listening in isolation, the differences are apparent. I'm not sure it would be as obvious in a band context.
