Rhett and Link have recently dontated to a charity to help prevent suicide and help the survivors. I wish to express my thanks. My son took his own life this past year. It is something that no one should have to go through. Thanks again, GMM.

i'm so sorry. Nothing can take that kind of pain away. I'm sure it's of little consolation, but try to remember that he is no longer suffering, and that you are not to blame. Please try to seek therapy. If it's true that this is something that no one should have to go through, then it is just as true that no one *can* go through it *alone*. I don't know you; but I love you Sam. And you have my deepest condolences.

Sam Smith I am so sorry for your loss. No parent should have to go through the heartache of losing a child. Suicide is a very painful & unpleasant issue to talk about. But it is important that people open up and share their experiences. You never know when your story could help someone out who really needs it. Take care.

Long distance. I have friends from all over the world and we "live chill". If I had a friend in real life I would hang out as much as possible. But I don't, all my friends are across the country/around the world. That's why I do it. (Edit) TL;DR of my other comments in this chain: I was traumatized by bullying. I'm an ambivert. I'm socially awkward so it's hard to talk to people. I had real life friends but I moved away. My online group of friends are only a group of 5 people, and we've been friends for 10 years. We're planning to meet up in the future.

Torii Rodriguez Glad to know! If there was a way, in the future, that we could all just hang out online using virtual reality (or something more advanced) and be able to see eachother like as if we were in the same room, then that would be awesome and it wouldn't be as weird to the older folks.

So, I understand that "teenagers are so lazy!" mentality, but... Haven't you ever had a study session? Or a gaming session, or just a simple college dorm hang out? You just sit around, do your own things... You have to realize, my best friend lives in Canada. I live in Nevada. Our other friend lives in Sweden. I understand how you guys see it, but I also need everyone to remember that friends move away, some friends are met online, etc. Sometimes skype video calls are the only way we ever get to see each other.

Serenity2254 Yeah, but they're not talking about that! Why does everyone in these comments seem to think that their specific situation with their distance friends is want they're talking about. Because it's not! They're talking about people who live super close by but choose to video chat over actual hanging out
@t-shades7148

Yeah, this just seems so obvious to me. Surprised more people don't get it.
@t-shades7148
@t-shades7148 7 жыл бұрын
+Zachary Morin Except they never said that. They cited some Wall Street Journal article and Pew Study (which I can only assume is this one: www.pewinternet.org/2015/08/06/chapter-1-meeting-hanging-out-and-staying-in-touch-the-role-of-digital-technology-in-teen-friendships/) which didn't specify how close the teens lived to their friends. In fact, a lot of the study is dedicated to how teens are increasingly making friends online, and school /someone's house are still the most common ways of hanging out. People are telling their stories in the comments in order to give some sort of explanation/context for these statistics. So others actually have an accurate view of the world rather than making assumptions like they must just be lazy.

Not sure why people think talking to people in person is healthier than talking to them via video. Technology keeps so many people in touch because they're far away and I know a lot of kids can't get to their friends due to lack of transportation. I couldn't get to most of my friends as a kid, just one that I had to spend a half hour biking to which I didn't do often because of a lot of hills.

We live video chat because A: Most kids that use apps like this can't drive, and their parents may not have time to drive them to their friends house. B: We have hours of homework piled onto us and don't have time to hang out with friends and we can do it together, without getting distracted by hanging out in real life. C: If we do hang out after school we end up staying up till around 11:00 (for me) not including showers, dinner, and the nightly 20 minutes of reading we have to do for English
@evanvenegoni7431
@evanvenegoni7431 7 жыл бұрын
Everything_A solution for all three problems, find a neutral location that you can easily get to for both people, if if that doesn't work then videochat because it's more than a 30 minute bike ride, for the second one, take some easier classes or if you want that advanced class then just designate an hour or two right after school to hangout/ have a study session, and finally, GO HOME EARLIER, how could hanging out until 11 be a problem if you just I don't know... go home an hour earlier!!!!!

I can understand the part about some teens only getting to hang out with their friends in person 1/3 days because a lot don't have their own means of transportation and it makes it difficult to hang out with friends as often as one may like to because not everyone has the luxury of their best friend living so close by. That being said, this episode has probably quickly become my favorite episode I've ever watched on GMM because of the beautiful display on the video chat call. I was overwhelmed with nostalgia and happiness wen you all sang the Brady Bunch theme song and all ended up synchronized together in the same room at the end. It shows how you guys are more of a family than just coworkers. Keep producing these quality videos guys! I keep you all part of my daily routine.

im 13 and i don't have a choice when it comes to hanging out with friends outside of school. My parents only let me out of the house every other weekend and it's really frustrating when adults think all teens do this because we are losing connection it may not be our fault so i moved to HouseParty, OovoO, Kik, etc, and i get to talk to my friends there, so next time you "40 year olds" judge us for doing this it may be your fault.

There are definitely a lot of factors that have lead to teens using such apps instead of meeting in person. The most obvious one is the availability of the app in general. Adults often complain about these sort of innovations because they seem lazy or disingenuous, but this is how the times have changed. Video chatting and texting instead of calling or meeting in person. It's easy to do and convenient, allowing people to communicate at later hours when it would generally not be acceptable. Another factor is that teens are often too busy with school and working to make time for friends. Sure, there is technically free time, teens aren't that swamped, but people need free time for friends and solitude. If someone asked me which I valued more, personal time or time with friends, it would be personal time. Lastly, some people are just too far away to hang out with or schedules don't match up. When I was in high school, my friends were either in band practice, working, doing sports/theater/choir, or just unavailable. My best friend in particular kept moving farther away so it was hard to hang outside of school.

I find it ironic how we are constantly advancing, technologically speaking, yet humanity is on the decline. Does video chatting and technology have benefits, absolutely, but we've over stepped the mark when you do actually meet up with friends in person and they spend 70% of the time on their phone. Almost getting bumped into walking down the street because people are fixated on their phone. I think we need to wake up to ourselves.

My fiance and I are long distance while at college, so we live chill almost constantly when we aren't in class. We aren't always necessarily in conversation, but it's extremely comforting to be doing homework and when you feel stressed out you know your significant other is there having your back. Of course I prefer being with him in person, which we are lucky enough to do once a month during the semester and daily during breaks, but I'm very fortunate to have this technology so I can still be close to him :)
