I had an emergency and my baby was delivered a few weeks earlier. The only pediatrician in the hospital at that time happened to be an out of network doctor. UHC refused to pay. I struggled with them for whole 6 months with calls, reviews, and appeals. Frustrated, I sent complaints to the state attorney, UHC immediately called me and said they made a mistake. They refunded me. Later I switched insurance and has never gone back to them. Imagine someone who is sick and not having this energy to go through all this trouble with them!

This is a common problem with any insurance and a silly one. If a hospital is in network, than anyone who is allowed to practice in that hospital should be automatically covered under their network. I went to hospital with Medicaid, afterwards I started getting bills and texts and collection calls. Turns out emergency room doctor was from another hospital and wasn't covered for some reason. Months later still getting texts though they finally stopped the phone calls. When I call the hospital they say I don't owe they are dealing with Medicaid. The responsibility should always fall with the hospital and doctor, to deal with the insurance for payment, not the patients. The problem is also the medical profession which is just as greedy as the insurance company.

In Luigi Mangione's review of Ted Kaczynski's book (which I believe quotes a Reddit comment), he states: "Had the balls to recognize that peaceful protest has gotten us absolutely nowhere, and at the end of the day, he's probably right. Oil barons haven't listened to any environmentalists, but they feared him." In a law-based society, individuals who commit murder must be imprisoned to maintain order. However, the reversal of BCBS's insane anesthesia time limit policy demonstrates Mangione's point: violence, while extreme and undesirable, often becomes the most effective and final measure to combat social injustices.

Tried Tylenol #3 on two separate occasions, which didn’t work, and she ended up in the hospital. The worse was about a 3 week hospitalization (clearly more expensive than medication). The appeals questions are the same every time, including something along the lines of, “when is it expected for the patient to be off this medication?” Umm… until there’s an effecting affordable cure for SCD, never! It’s already a lifespan shortener. She developed avascular necrosis in her shoulder after that hospitalization. I doubt they’d be willing to pay for a shoulder replacement if she ever needs one.
