Is Luigi's Mansion 2 Bad?

I know that the secret mine is a very interesting location, but in a recent playthrough I did it was honestly a breath of fresh air to get a location that was shorter than the others. It mixed up the pacing nicely and kept the game from getting too repetitive (which is admittedly had started to), which left me refreshed and eager to spend 6 more levels in Treacherous Mansion.

The reason this game is level-based is because it used to be on a handheld and you couldn't expect the player to be on it hours on end.

Which is ironic, because handheld games actually require less Save-reliant breakups on average. You can play it anywhere, at any time(besides work/school time, lmao) and the DS made the sleep mode a uniform console feature. I mean, I have nothing against playerfriendly design since it often makes games better and not worse(Even in this game, I find the missions really compelling due to having comprehensive checklists for progress and rankings. If they did not exist, the game likely would have still just been a linear experience that may as well have been mission based anyways.), I just do not understand the philosophy behind "you can play less on handheld" and never will.

I feel you still get to explore the mansions quite a bit especially in some of the final missions, there's a LOT of hidden gold and gems you'll find if your only priority isn't just finishing the mission. The earlier levels do restrict the exploration a bit, but I feel it's fair since the mansions are so big and with the very specific and clever solutions to the puzzles you need to find, it'll be extremely time taking to search through the entire mansion every single time

The best thing about Dark Moon is Luigi himself... I mean, sure. The original game did give him a ton of personality that made him the lovable coward we know and love, but Dark Moon make him so goofy... I love him! 💚

This game will always be Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon to me instead of Luigi's Mansion 2. This was my first Luigi's Mansion game and it remains my favorite Luigi's Mansion game, although that may be me looking at it through rose-tinted glasses.

It was originally when it released for the 3ds, but it seems all switch games are $60+ no matter their quality unfortunately. Just wait for it to reach used game status, then it'll be much cheaper.

IMO As someone that played all 3 Luigi's mansion games, Dark Moon is my favorite. I will admit, the style is definitely not for everyone, and its not nearly that spooky. However, what it lacks in scare factor it makes up for in the design aspects, the personalities of each ghost type, the scarescrapper, the themes, and most importantly imo the controls. Its got the most reasonable controls of the three, making it much easier to actively enjoy playing. Now while I like the bite size episodic style missions the game has, i notice that not many others seem to appreciate it. With the episodic layout of the game, its easy to actually put the game down for a break. It makes it where you can enjoy some fun, on the go, in between important chores or activities, not taking up too much of your time. The og Luigi's mansion was second best, because it has the scare factor, it has good controls, it takes place in a mansion, and it has some interesting boss ghosts. While Luigi's mansion 3 had a similar style to dark moon, it has terrible controls and that was enough to ruin my experience of the game. The ghosts were interesting but nothing too extraordinary, many feeling like rehashes of previous ghosts, like polter kitty, the crushers, and many more.

No it’s peak :) But in all seriousness I understand why fans of the original were disappointed but I love this game to death. I prefer the more cartoony and expressive ghosts and stylized set designs. I enjoy the mission structure (though I prefer how 3 does it) it also has the best scare scraper and controls in the series so far! Like I said I understand why people were disappointed but I like to look at it as its on experimental thing that ended up being the new direction of the series. That’s also why I prefer the name dark moon over 2 it feels like its own thing while in the same series so it deserves a subtitle! I'm sure there are tons of games you enjoy that you grew up with that I wouldn't vibe with that you'd swear were masterpieces. I'm a big fan of horror and love Luigi and so Luigi's Mansion was kinda a perfect storm for me, I think it's easily the most unique Mario game to ever come out and has never been replicated even by its squeals. The sequels really turned down the scare factor and they just never replicated the originals unique atmosphere.

beforehand, this is probably my favorite Luigi's Mansion game so, no, i don't think this game is bad - like - AT ALL! the point about e. gadd calling you all the time - you can just press the **PLUS** button to skip. you skip almost everything you don't want to see/read the other point about the mission structure - i guess that's a thing with me personally. i enjoy having one core objective and i am usually happy to stick to it. so i can see how the mission structure can put you out of the game (as established) i have to say, i prefer the "simple" bosses in this game. so even if the boss in mansion 4 is technically the most complex/best - i don't like it as much. gives me anxiety. super happy to know that you are on board with the "good game" train

I agree that this game is underrated its price is questionable, but the price is worth it for a game that I never got to play so when I started the game for the first time, I loved solving the puzzle which in my opinion had more hints and were easier to solve then the 3rd game don't listen to the internet get the game and you won't regret it

I personally don’t mind the bosses being inanimate objects, i find most of them to be pretty fun to fight imo. But I will admit, most ghosts in this game are pretty mediocre compared to the 1st version. And not to mention how most new ghosts after the haunted towers stage are just reskins of already existing ghosts

It's not bad, I just wish 2 and 3 retained the spooky atmosphere 1 had. Well, about as spooky as you could get away with in a kids game. 1 felt like they were trying to make a genuine horror experience, albeit tamed down so kids aren't traumatized or anything, 2 and 3 feel like cheap ghost house attractions in theme parks with cute blanket ghosts painted in the walls. Gameplay-wise 2 and 3 far surpass 1 though.

I don't know if I'd call it an outright bad game, but I didn't get very far in Dark Moon. I didn't like the ghost designs, I didn't like the increased emphasis on solving puzzles over fighting ghosts, and I felt each mission would take too long, especially for a portable console like the 3DS.

If not for the mission system and the mediocre end-of-mansion bosses I feel like this would be easily the best LM game. The mansions are really unique, the gameplay benefits from the inclusion of more puzzles, and the ghost combat is mixed up quite a lot. Plus, it gives you much more playing time than the original.

I feel the problem is not that 2 was bad but that 1 was so good that it was lightning in a bottle like resident evil 4. I actually really like 2, luigi is so expressive, and the multi-player slaps. But 1 was so experimental that Nintendo can never recreate it because Nintendo always plays it safe. 1 was spooky scary, even. 2 is not really scary in any instance but more stylish with design and set pieces. Its not for everyone, but i like it.

So I got the remaster but the cutscene with the fat yellow ghost shows up out of the pipe for one scene of the cutscene I can clearly tell they forgot to use the newer model of luigi it looks exactly how it did on the 3ds everything else is modeled properly except luigi on one part of the cutscene

No not at all. Should I even consider trying it ? Yeah it’s a solid experience coming straight from the 3Ds to now switch I’m glad this game is on it shame the first one isn’t though . Overall it’s not a bad game definitely weaker one still a solid experience but it’s up to you wether you wanna cough up 60$

I still just don’t care for it. The mission based structure was jarring to me and I found myself just trying to find the next cutscene. Does that make it bad? I don’t think so, it just wasn’t for me. I much prefer 1 and 3 and have never felt any great desire to replay 2.

This game is atrocious compared to 1&3. It is extremely tedious, monotonous and repetitive, frustrating beyond belief, slow, and very annoying to complete. Timed levels, back to back loading screens between levels, constant breaks to speak to Egadd and those hellish fucking toads. I've been completing this game for Spooktober and I've really not been enjoying it. I just want it to be over at this point.
