Mac is great and all, and I love this set. But no, hip hop has a huge tradition in political conscious and introspectiveness. I'd recommend artists like Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, Rakim, Talib Kweli, Kendrick, KRS-One, Eyedea, Aesop Rock, Gangstarr, Roots, Cole - even some UK artists like Akala, Mic Righteous, Riz MC

I agree with you that the notes are simple but the groove is expert level. So hard to stay behind the beat and in the pocket at the same time. This laid back lazy feel is so well done. It begs to solo over.

@conan2650 Жыл бұрын
I mean yeah the musicians are great but so is he. He was a multi instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, singer and rapper. He had multiple succesful and influencial projects spanning a vast discography including 6 studio albums and 13 mixtapes. Id say thats pretty good too.

I feel everything but the voice and lyrics. They ruin it. I wish it was an instrumental or had a different person with different lyrics
@selliantuttimusi6735 Жыл бұрын
@@audiophizile13 In music groove, swing and pocket are way more important that the tone of the singing voice and/or the lyrics. It's very hard to make good music with only a good voice and good lyrics. I think that the most important thing in music is rhythm, followed by the melody (good ones usually have great rhythm too), followed by the harmonies (which support the melodies) , followed by the arrangement, followed by the textures and the tones of the instruments (or voice), then the lyrics (if the melodies happen to be sang by a human), then the mixing, etc. In the case of Mac it's all about the groove and the feel. TBH, I still don't know what the lyrics are saying here, as I don't care a lot about that.

@edzielinski Жыл бұрын
Acknowledged. His voice is certainly unique, and not at all polished or sophisticated compared to an accomplished singer, but the emotion, the feel, the timing are all there. Others that come to mind - Bob Dylan. Willie Nelson (very scratchy), Joe Cocker.

@@GizzyDillespeeidk, microtonal would to me imply that it is done on purpose, and this just sounds like it is off key and that he can’t help himself. the band on the hand is sensational.
