This was over 55 years ago now, and it looks the same, other than what people were wearing. I seem to remember being given Peru in a Geography class to do my essay on as well! I live near an alpaca and llama farm here in New Jersey. They raise the animals for their fiber, which they use to make gorgeous hats, scarves, mittens, socks and other woven accessories that they sell to the public. For Christmas, as they do every year, they recently dressed the animals up as Santa Claus and invited families to bring their kids and have their pictures taken with "Paca-Claus." :-)

Would love to visit Machu Picchu, chat with locals and try some of the food. One thing is to learn about the Inca civilization from reading and watch documentaries, but to be there and touch it yourself is a very fulfilling experience. However, I may never go because the place is visited by too many tourists that it may do serious damage to the place. Guinea pig as food... yeah, I think I could try eating that

I suspect that guinea pigs were introduced by the reptilian/serpentine alien gods as ambrosia. It may be a mini-version of the capybara native to South America. After moving to an alien place, the gods still retained their taste preferences.

Dari, one thing I didn't hear you talk about was the risk of sun exposure. I've read that because of the altitude (and latitude) in the Andes Mountains of Peru, the risk of sunburn is especially high for fair-skinned people who aren't used to it, even from short-term exposure or on cloudy days. Did you have to use sunscreen at all? I'm a bit concerned about this as I got seriously burnt several years ago in Florida and don't ever want to go through that again. I'd love to visit Peru otherwise; it seems truly unique even among the Spanish-speaking countries of South America.

Serving up the fish with its head still intact was also often done in Chinese culture. I was acculturated as a young child to that.

@@solconcordia4315 Yes, and I think in much of continental Europe too even today. Still jarring to me, though. Even more so considering I was still quite young lol.

@@EricOfTheNorthlands I think that it's a way for proving the authenticity of the fish 🐟 beyond reasonable doubt (the fish tail was also served at the other end of the placement, even if the body had been cut up into pieces -- Chinese culture doesn't provide knife and fork to cut up foods at the table so the chef/cook cuts food into small morsels but it makes the food less recognizable and more prone to fraud, especially in seafoods). It's obviously not X-meat ! 😂

Machu picchu is Incan and was the last unconquered land the Spanish couldn’t take. It was the death of Atahualpa by the direct hands of Francisco Pizarro that the Inca fell. Machu Picchu was where the Inca took the mummified body of the king in an attempt to save themselves. The body made it but the warriors didn’t as most of them were shot down by the Spanish only one managed to make it and told the people to hide the mummies and any gold and everyone get into hiding immediately before dying. Pizarro was a completely unhinged individual with a lust for gold. He would torture people for fun. Pizarro was assassinated by Diego de Almagro in a political power play. It really changed the complexion of Peru as Almagro was sworn in as Peru’s new leader. Almagro was a true leader as he wasn’t very gold hungry, instead preferring to make peace with the native tribes and setting up trade networks. He actually married a native woman and learned about the people there. Pizarro was actually not in South America for gold, he was really hunting specific artifacts called the crystal skulls. Those skulls according to rumors could create communication pathways between many skulls. The Spanish wanted those skulls. He found them alright. Pizarro was just another person in a web of dark people that tried to manipulate everything around them to control every bit of society. This web spans centuries or millennia. Every major event of history a really dark person is at the center. There are hidden people willing to fight against this oppression just you never know. Pizarro was a middleman in the web able to command others but still is bossed around by whoever is at the center of the web. Someone in Spain was pulling all the strings.

Very good & informative video on Macchu Picchu with very informnative, if not overly honest at certain points, food reviews. I have tried two Venezulian foods; various epandnadas ( chicken, beef, pork, etc) & mandoca. ( similar to but not a sour cream donut in flavor but shaped like an elongated large soft pretzel) It seems like epandanadas are filled with all sorts of things but it is mostly various types or blends of meat. They are similar to hot pockets., but they taste better because they are home made verses being produced by assembly line machinery and laboratory modified ingredients. Over the last few years they brought in many Venezulians and some Columbians and some Mexicans to work. Mandoca is sold as breakfast food. The immigrants have brought their foods and have set up a few resteraunts but mostly food trucks. Food trucks are so much loved by the Japanese that they are allowed to stop and sell food at the plants during lunch. They place them on a rotating schedule. During the late summer & early fall these food trucks no doubt show up at the fairs and festivals.

The reason rodents are in the diet is ungulates weren’t introduced to South America until much later. Hystricognant rodents took over every herbivorous niche when they arrived from Africa and the cavy was the first to be domesticated by early humans as livestock. Their being pets is a modern affectation. Dari didn’t care for it but they do look like roasted pigs so that’s why the pig name stuck even though they aren’t actually pigs! Thanks for showing Machu Pichu! 😊
