Perfectly valid words and perfectly kind of you so say such nice things. Funny thing about the running scene and not stealing a car, the way it was originally in the TV script was that they didn’t just have a break down, the car was supposed to crash way outside of where they needed to be, hence running was the only option. But with the short timeline and the budget required to make a crash happen and the simple limitation of locations to film at gets it turned into this. Totally valid point to make though. Seeing it unfold on set gave me an appreciate for the logistics required to put into action something that any writer might imagine (re: a car crash). Thanks again for making this video and glad you enjoyed the show!

Markiplier also personally paid the extremely expensive licensing fee to use the song in the opening because that was the song the animation was made to but they said it was too expensive and they wanted to use a generic song. He’s so passionate about his creativity and I love that he actually puts his money where his mouth is.

While i respect the passion he puts behind everything, i never really saw the end product being worth it. In Space was super mediocre, so were all his "choose own adventure" type things. I didnt hear a single thing about this show, but it looks ok? And Iron Lung, he has worked on for years now, but the actual game its based on is super mid, with decent athmosphere but nothing else, barely any substance or major lore that would make sense of being turned into a movie. I feel like just with everything he does, you will only like it if you are a Markiplier fan and there is nothing else for people who arent big fan of his.

Markiplier did say that he is only an actor not the producer, and his executive producer title is because he put monetary support towards aspects of the show such as the licensing for the title track Iron lung is the movie he created himself from scratch (I know it's based off of a game, however, he is the one who made the film which is what I said) and hopefully having edge of sleep stay in the top 10 for a month will encourage companies to support his film so the world can see it! Edit: Go watch markipliers vod live stream where he gives all of the same details I did, and more!! 😌 I just relayed some facts that he said in the live for those who didn't have a chance to watch or can't take the time. If you do have the time, It's a really cool chance to hear about behind the scenes of this show and how he interacted with the director and crew throughout the filming. For those who know, definitely watch out for cows lol

its definitely clear hes not a professional actor, but for his first time in a more serious role he did pretty good. He did say in a recent podcast that he was not that interested in acting in the future much saying he prefers writing and directing the story. Probably will still be acting in his youtube originals if he makes more but after iron lung its unclear if he will continue to star in his non youtube projects.🌸

Mark has made it clear that this isnt HIS show, he acted in it. He is listed as an executive producer with the director being Corey Adams. I felt like i had to say this since people are calling this "Markiplier's show". He and Corey might have worked together on some bits here and there but this isn't Mark's creation Also, about his acting, this was filmed in 2021 and he has since created another series called "In Space with Markiplier" where his acting has gotten better. I guess i souns like I'm running defense for him but I just think that we should keep these things in mind before we judge the show and other projects with Mark in it moving forward

It's important to remember that the success of this show is what will determine wether or not Amazon helps Mark bring Iron Lung to theaters, and they seem to be doing everything in their power to stifle the visibility and success of it. From an extremely messy release, to preventing Mark from revealing the platform it's being released on, to a complete lack of advertising or announcements about the series leading up to its release, to unreasonable goals that their own actions make nigh impossible, it's like they want Mark to fail. It's disgusting.

As a diehard Markiplier fan, I couldn’t agree more with all of these criticisms and more. I listened to the original podcast about 4 years ago, and I was a little disappointed with just how much they omitted from the main plot. But considering the budget and allotted episodes, it is what it is and they did what they could. And did it fairly well I feel like Mark would be very glad to hear all of these critiques 🙏

As many others have said, it’s not Mark’s show. He just cares about the story a lot. Additionally, I’ve heard that the original writers that made the podcast also wrote the show. I think part of that scene where he runs a couple miles can be explained- at least within the show- as a sleep deprivation issue. At that point they've gone about 40 hours without sleep, and I think that, within the show, they just aren't thinking clearly and aren't making decisions that make sense. You can't handwave away all plot holes with that kind of reasoning but I think they probably would have made better decisions if they were "fully rested"

@@danculbert6349 Just because he wasn't a filmmaker doesn't mean he didn't further learn certain filmmaking skills, such as directing in this case. As an actor, you work with the Director pretty much all the time. Doing so would allow the actors, therefore Mark, to better learn composition, which is a key aspect in movies.

Tbf about the not looking for keys to a car to get to Katie's... we already know that they'd been up for a WHILE at that point, and Dave was panicking really hard about this and knew he might have MINUTES to get to Katie's. The brain is really bad at thinking in a panic, especially while sleep deprived which Dave was at that point. Really all they had to do to address that is just have Mateo or Linda call out "We could just look for a key!" and Dave to scream back "WE DON'T HAVE THE TIME!!!" and at least we'd know that they considered it. But I really do think in the moment I too would opt to just run, because I don't know any of these houses. I don't know these people. How much time are we gonna waste looking for a key and hoping that the best outcome is available where the car is right there easy to get to and not in a garage where I then have to fumble for the lights and open it/etc. I can spend a lot of time looking around when I lose my OWN keys, let alone checking multiple houses hoping like hell these people have a key out in the open and easy to access.

the show does take some liberties and changes from the original podcast. It's not perfect, but you can tell the actors gave it their best with the material since the script was written by the creators of the podcast. If this show does have a season 2 or even a continuation of the podcast, they can answer questions and expend on the lore.

so the reason it's mostly mark fans afaik is because the service this show is on did no advertising and didn't even allow him to say where it would be streaming, and some execs have put the condition on mark that in order for iron lung to get a better release, this show has to do well. mark seems to have put his all into iron lung given the credits he has on that film, so even as someone who's pretty lukewarm on the guy i get it. it's a shame edge of sleep might appeal more to mark's existing fanbase over general audiences; i hope it still succeeds enough to give iron lung the opportunities it and mark deserve. it's always awesome when something from the internet's organic roots manages to be genuinely successful.

For people wondering why the show has a different story from the podcast, they actually wrote a book version of the edge of sleep as well, and the show much more closely follows the book than the podcast. If you enjoyed the show, absolutely read the book, it goes into more detail that the show had to rush through. Plus, the book also tells another perspective of the story from a few people out in the east coast.

Mark didn’t write the show. He obviously acted in it, he did some editing, helped it monetarily and did the promotional work for it. The reason why he’s pushing it so much is because he’s kinda on his own. And if this show does well, his actual written And directed movie Iron Lung can have a better chance of coming out to theaters. I think Edge of sleep should be given a try. It’s a great concept and an interesting story. Also we have to support our good KZbinrs trying to do things bigger than KZbin.

I liked the show plenty, but it felt so rushed. I was thinking the entire time, it would work so much better as a feature length film instead of the episodic format. That way more would be focused into the overarching narrative instead of the individual events per episode. The editing for some just regular filler scenes would have some music covering over background noise or dialogue. One specific scene I can think of is when Katie and Dave are looking for anyone still alive in the hospital. As they are approaching the old lady's room (I forgot her name) you can hear her yelling for a nurse, but you can barely hear it through the music you can't tell if she's yelling through the show or if it's some neighbor outside. While I'm being very nitpicky, I loved the show and I'm really pointing out places of improvement. I thought the plot was very interesting and Dave's dreams were done amazingly. I was hooked when I was planning on watching one episode that night.

While I do agree that it was rushed I also think there’s definitely the ability to if it gets a season two to one expand the episode runtime and two whatever missing details that were left out in the first season figure out a way to connect those back in

One thing I think is important to keep in mind too is that Edge of Sleep was filmed three years ago in 2021. Mark has said on his channel that he believes he’s grown personally in his acting and other skills in that nature since his work on Edge of Sleep. So I’m excited to see what Iron Lung will look like. He’s been pouring so much work into it over the last year.

A lot of the episode and run time hangups can be attributed to the fact this show was supposed to release in 2019, was developed in 2017 and filmed in 2018 so the media landscape was very different in terms of production from how it is today.

That's interesting. I actually found him and been a constant watcher since when I was in service. My 2nd Year and I was in the nuclear program. Free time definitely wasn't common, between the schooling, PT, standing watch, and other obligations and work, deployment. Still I found him and that was some part of my freetime. Order of Panda Express while watching his channel before I pass out for the night. By the sound of it you were probably Army or Marines. Jobs in those I can see it really bad that internet is just hard to come by. I was Navy Submarines and even we still had internet access. Well till we had to go really deep but when that happened that meant we were locked on to bigger things and KZbin was the last thing on our mind. Outside of those, Navy Seals. I had a weird issue the past couple nights where the internet would cut out...but the Fire Stick worked just fine??? So this went on for long enough I decided to watch TV, remembered Edge of Sleep came out, and turned it on. At that moment, my dad woke up and asked what I was watching. I just told him "It's this thing a guy I follow stars in" and left it at that. He's not gonna care who Markiplier is, so no point explaining. We then proceeded to watch then entire six episodes only stopping for a bathroom break. This isn't mind blowing, but it is engaging enough that we couldn't put it down and ended up theorizing what was going on during a few points. So yeah, this is a thing anyone who enjoys suspense and mystery can enjoy, it doesn't rely on Markiplier's name and recognition. Now as for not grabbing a car when Dave had to get to Katie's...ya know I didn't think of that in the moment, and maybe that's their defense? Tensions were high, man must've panicked, that's about all I can think of there, but yeah that's pretty silly in hindsight. :P

Executive producers and a handful of other titles in the filming industry can be given to pretty much anyone. It doesn't mean they have any control over the film/series. If you pay a certain amount of money you can get one of these titles cause you're supporting the film/series and that helps the budget alot. Alot of actors get these titles on films but they don't do anything more than acting as they're directed and giving some suggestions. They have pretty minor power in terms of changing or creating anything for the show. Markiplier was an executive producer.

I’d take it one further and say it’s not good, but great. I hate to say it, but I was kind of pessimistic going into it because most of Markiplier’s big projects beforehand were comedies, and they were decent. I was very pleasantly surprised. I personally didn’t think it felt rushed. Short, but not rushed. It’s been awhile since I’ve been that immersed into a show. I only wish I would have taken more time with it now. I literally ended up bingeing the whole thing in two hours. Sure, it’s not going to be a pinnacle of television, but it was quite good. Above average television which I think makes it great. Impressive at such a low budget. Way better than The Acolyte which had a budget of hundreds of millions of dollars. I hope there’s another season on the way because I’m watching it.
