If you watch Ozark, Marty and Walt would probably get along. Walter gets hostile with someone if they threaten his life, or if they challenge his intellect and skills. Marty wouldn’t have any reason to threaten or challenge him, since his expertise is money laundering, not drugs (either making or selling them). So Walt would hook him up with Saul, and after that “‘Sall Good, Man’”

Yeah, I remember watching Ozark and thinking that Wendy is actually closer to Walter than Marty, and I laughed out loud when you matched them. The world would not be ready for that. Marty would also probably put up with Skylar’s shit a lot easier, he’d zone out every time she started to nag, and get on with his life. Considering he had to be on the lookout for his wife ordering hits on people and the crazy shit she was pulling, Skylar would be a walk in the park for him.

I’m pretty sure Marty would butt heads with Skylar more than Walter. As long as Walter wasn’t challenged in his realm, or threatened, he’d be fine with Marty. Marty’s specialty has nothing to do with drugs, it has to do with money laundering, so if Walter were to come in touch with him for business, they’d probably get along just fine. Yes, Walter isn’t very diplomatic, but consider who Marty works for on a day to day, he’s extremely diplomatic.

Marty had a conscience. He wasn’t motivated by ego, and only let his greed take over after the second season. Marty and Walter would work out well in the beginning but Walters ego wouldn’t allow him to work with someone just as smart as himself, like Marty, and he’d eventually try to kill him. Marty would respect Walter and overlook his clear narcissism for a time but eventually see that Walter is a danger to everything, and then promptly try and double cross him somehow. Essentially, Marty and Walt would work very well for the beginning half. However, once they had a smidgen of power and wealth, would begin to turn on each other. Walter would become increasingly paranoid about Marty betraying him and would feel insecure at how intelligent Marty is with laundering. Walter would become paranoid and he’d grow bitter with Marty, trying to belittle and demean Marty over time. Marty, being the tough cookie that he is, would deal with the belittling and charter on, knowing that if he loses his cool, the money goes away and they get arrested. Walt would then eventually try to have Marty killed or he’d self sabotage the whole operation in spite. Simultaneously, Marty would realize that Walt is a danger to the operation. He’d bare the insults and aggression long enough to find a way out while also screwing over Walt. By the end, he’d most likely make a deal with the cops/fbi to secure his own safety and to pin it all on Walt. Unfortunately, after he turned Walt in and thought he had made a great escape, Walt would be there at his house and kill him before being killed by the police.

I never finished Ozark and I should get on that but I'm still pretty sure Walt and Marty could get a beer without killing each other. But here's the thing. I think they would work extremely well together. But Marty is too smart not to get out when he sees the ship sinking. And Walter is too arrogant to let a valuable asset just walk away. It's gonna blow up eventually. The question is, how much is Marty willing to trust Walt and how bad does Walt take losing his genius money launderer? I think they're both too smart to get killed by the other but they both walk away wondering why the other guy had to ruin everything by being an asshole. But that's just my take.

However if Wendy forced her way in like she did in ozaark there would be problems between Walt and Marty. Ok, hear me out here for a similar “franchise-crossing” pairing. It’s absolutely ludicrous, but here it is. BBC Sherlock and John have to work with Netflix’s Lucifer. Maybe it’s an outsourcing thing where the LAPD has to call in an overseas expert. Maybe Lucy is called away for some “business” in London and crosses paths with the Baker Street Boys. Either way, Sherlock’s extreme logical and deductive mind, Lucy’s ability to pull desires and secrets out of people’s mind that logic wouldn’t necessarily tell you but with a total devil may care attitude (yes that was absolutely intentional. Don’t worry, the cops are on their way). And John stuck in the middle and losing his mind having to deal with their respective bullshit.

Marty is often in a situation where he's helping people who are scarier and more powerful then him, however reluctantly. I think Walter would end up recruiting him and it would be a "we're done when I say we're done" type situation. It's possible Marty would be constantly searching for an angle to gain leverage over Walt, but I think Walt couldn't be outsmarted like Navaro. Maybe that changes if Wendy is involved since she might match Walter's thirst for power.

Cool video. I never actually put these two together like this, and you did a great job. I have one slight difference I would consider in the analysis, is that Marty would smooth out those anxious times for Walt. As long as Marty isn't in deathly peril, I think he would talk White down, and make the operation run very smooth. Let's face it, Walt was his own worst enemy. There were several occasions he could have taken control and been that linchpin the cartel needed in NM. But he blew himself up. Marty could have slowed Walt's manic behavior and it would be a very boring show, since they could have averted so much trouble! Now, like I said, I never put these two together in my head like this... but if you're talkin' The Good Girls, that would be a roller coaster right if they had ever teamed up!!! I think of the Good Girls as Breaking Bad lite. ;)

I'm just starting the second season of Ozark and, while I love the show, Marty is such a terrible money launderer. Like, you get a glimpse into his books at one point and it's shit like "4 air conditioners, credit. 45 air conditioners, cash... 50 burgers, credit. 1600 burgers, cash." I actually laughed out loud when I realised he was just relying on no-one looking too closely at his extremely cooked books as his winning strategy

I think it heavily depends on when they meet relative to Marty + Wendys development. I’m assuming Walt would be looking for a partner after he killed Gus and was trying to extend his empire. I feel like Marty could generally work with anyone when it comes to strictly business. What I do wonder is how Wendy and Walt would clash because I think that would be a much bigger problem. I do think that Walt could come up with the “ultimate plan” to take down the byrdes but I think he wouldn’t have the time to pull it off because Wendy would place a hit on Walt without Marty’s knowledge especially if they meet after the byrdes finished their story in the Ozarks.

You have to ask which character each would gravitate towards. Marty and Wendy Byrd would want a relationship with Gus Fring, and would not be interested in Walter White, unless they were forced to deal with him by someone higher up. Walter White would be looking to cultivate a relationship with Del Rio, and would not want to deal with anybody higher than that, as long as the relationship was working. After his demise, he likely comes crawling to the Snell's. Bottom line, their swords probably never cross.

While on paper it would be the ultimate match, it just wouldn’t work out in actuality. Walt has an insatiable need to be “The Man”. He needs to be the Boss. The big one in charge. The smartest man in the room. And his ego is so easily bruised. By season 5 of Breaking Bad if Marty was only competent at his job and displayed no other ambition Walt would still feel challenged in some way. Likely the way Walt treats Saul in season 5 is very similar to how he’d treat Marty.
