The game had potential, and I feel it was wasted. I don't hate the game, but I don't love it either. The main things that anger me about the game: 1) short and rushed story - venom feels like an afterthought. 2) Peter's nanotech spider arms/iron spider style arms aren't optional to use (in that there isn't a toggle to turn them off completely). The arms just make the symbiote feel pointless.

1. Despite some parts being rushed with venom, he doesn’t feel like an afterthought. As a matter fact, you can see that venom is a consequence of the Personal flaws of four people: Peter, Kraven, Harry, & Norman. Peters personal frustrations in life, norman not caring about the consequences of using an alien as medical treatment, Harry letting his fear of death(not accomplishing his dream) consume him, and of course Kravens idolatry surrounding the “final hunt”. Venom is just a mix of a xenomorph, ultimate and web of shadows. Just a crazy monster and I’m OK with that. I’m tired of him being a “comedic relief anti-hero”. Dude he’s supposed to be an evil alien. 2. As for the robot arms. Yeah, you can turn them off in the gameplay options. When it comes to traversal & parry(can edit in the options menu). Then there’s combat in the skill options for Peter(switching between the robot arms or the alien abilities. Only downside is that sometimes you might see the robot arms in the finishers, despite having the Symbiote abilities on(which isn’t frequent). As a matter of fact, the robot arms don’t make the Symbiote feel pointless. The Symbiote abilities are a lot more powerful than the robot arms. On top of that they refill very quickly when you use the Symbiote surge mode. So I don’t know why you’re calling the abilities “irrelevant” in your text.

They should've done dlc for SM2. Now that they didn't they either need Spider-Man miles morales 2, venom, or silk or something to tie some of the loose ends up. Personally I think if sm3 isn't a 40hr game and doesn't tie up every actual loose end then it's a failure for fans.

I don't see how a Venom will work since the Symbiote was quite clearly vaporized at the end of Marvels Spider-Man 2 and even if it's still alive in Harry Osborns blood system, I doubt Harry would want anything to do with Venom ever again after the things he made him do and the Hell he put him his friends and countless innocence even if his survival depended on it, he tried to get rid of the Symbiote, further more assuming it takes place before Marvels Spider-Man 3 him coming put of that coma alive, well and in control himself would ruin Norman Osborns motivation for going after Spider-Man, so unless they have the symbiote leave Harry and introduce Eddie Brock or Flash To to take up the mantle I don't see how it will work.

As of right now spider man 2 needs a big expansion to conclude the story of 2. But when spider man 3 comes Peter needs to be the main playable character. This will make the work easier for the Devs and the writers. Hopefully they add another 10 or 20 hours in the story.

Im indifferent on SP2 cause it can be fun at times, but the last half of the story missions for Carnage, Chameleon, Kraven and Venom that it skips so much build up that SP1 had with Mr. Negetive and Doc Oc. Now with three there's so many loose ends that are here in SP2 that DLC could've done help with, so that SP3 wouldn't have the pressures to hit each point along with whatever new Story they have to do with Norman. Its just alot at once and now the writers are under heavy eyes thanks to the mediocre to okay writting in SP2 and Sony showing that they just dont care about what critiques they get.

that 3rd game is gonna have to be like a 70 hour story without side missions to just to cover their loose ends from sm2 while also being a finale to the entire series with its own unique standalone story. Miles and Cindy with Peter, Doc Ock returning (and possibly doing some type of superior spiderman plotline), Harry coming out of his coma, the green goblin being the big final villain, and Peter's retirement/coming out of retirement, and that's just in the main plotline. There's also unconnected ends in Chameleon, TaskMaster (who didn't even appear in SM2), Wraith (kinda), and the 100% likelihood of the spider-verse crossover. There's so much they have to do. Carnage is such as crazy open end from the 2nd game that I think if they don't address him at all in the 3rd people would be big mad. I really hope they can explore some of those ends in an inbetween game like a venom game or something like a Miles Morales 2 (idk how this would work tho unless the reason for Peter's absence is his retirement)

I think most of the problems really come from Sony and the fans. The fans have put so many things insomniac does under a microscope and nit picks so many things like the movie suits not being exactly 1 to 1 or hyping up ideas for having suit customization and being able to do multiplayer etc. Sony forced the devs to rush out the game and gave a limited budget. Insomniac devs now have to make half the game they wanted and fill the rest of the campaign with little side missions and mini games with simple mechanics. It’s worrying because Sony learned from other studios that they can bank off a popular IP making millions within the first couple of weeks and not have to put much effort or money behind it to do so. Also the hacking of insomniac’s private information didn’t help either. I wonder if the people at insomniac might be feeling like ever since spiderman ps4 came out they’ve been cursed with issues and being squeezed between the demands of the fans and executives. I can only hope that Sony stops being Sony and lets the devs work their magic like they did with the first game.

My biggest thing with the game was scream… when I initially saw her I was happy and excited with the fact that maybe I might have to fight some of the other Symbiotes like riot, phage or lasher but no just the scream fight and it was a good boss battle don’t get me wrong but them just adding that Symbiot alone doesn’t make any sense in my opinion they could’ve done so much more with that and extended the story with you having to fight a gauntlet of Symbiotes to get the venom at the end and no one would be mad at that

Honestly, i don't care about series anymore. Insomniac chose the route of a story, that made me feel like they just don't want to make Peter Parker story anymore. They should just kill him or make him go retire. Otherwise it's just sad to see what they do to Peter character. Insomniac wants so bad Miles to be the main spider, and at this point they should do it. Anyway Miles and Peter are basically the same character in games. They just don't work together, just stealing each other screen time, so what's the point of having both of them in one game.

It seems like they already didn’t know what to do with miles in the second one. Personally think they should either pull a jason, or have miles sacrifice himself. This would pull Peter out of retirement. Would be crazy if goblin killed miles, and Peter went on a revenge quest. Instead of making it like another dark symbiote story, where he finds what it means to be spiderman we could have Peter really try to kill Osborne and Harry wakes up to stop it from happening.

I was very disappointed with Spider-Man 2 for several reasons, one of those being that its story was significantly shorter than the first game, (seriously, I checked and there are a total of 14 less missions in 2 than there were in 1 and some of the ‘missions’ in 2 are literally just - travel to location, trigger a cutscene, end cutscene, mission completed, here’s 2000 XP) and that a massive chunk of it was apparently cut for unknown reasons, like how Tony Todd said only 10-15% of his Venom lines got used. Another is that Miles went through no real struggles in the game and never had any moments where he made mistakes that he actually had to learn and grow from. Especially the stuff with Mr Negative, he just forgives him during their second encounter and there’s barely any build up to it to make it meaningful and believable. Meanwhile Peter is literally getting his brain re-written by an alien parasite to make him a violent, bloodthirsty monster and almost everyone around him shits on him for it after its removed from his body and expects him to apologise as if he was in any way at fault for being mind-controlled. MJ doesn’t even apologise for being so condemning of his actions even after she got possessed by the exact same thing and now knows exactly how it feels and how it brings out your absolute worst emotions and literally turns you into a horrifying monster. Personally I think a better idea for Miles’ story would be for him to go after Mr Negative like he did in the actual game and when he finds him and MN gets inside his head, Miles’ own hatred for Li and his thirst for revenge (his *negative* emotions you might say) cause him to be taken over by Li and made an Inner Demon temporarily. Wouldn’t that be way more interesting and fucked up? Miles is put under the control of the guy who killed his Dad and has to be helped out of it? It even parallels with Peter and the Black Suit - your darkest emotions taking you over and everything.

Story wise? Yeah, it's a bad spot for the narrative. Should this be a trilogy, this being the middle chapter makes an inconsequential story particularly worse, as by the end of it, i feel nothing and every tease for something else just mantains this middling feeling, carnage, silk, the goblin, chameleon, it's whatever. It's a rollercoaster game, and it unfortunately leaves no real emotional impact after the ride. Overall, it's fun and that's about it.

I loved spiderman 2, was it perfect? No. But I'm not gonna sit here and whine like some people about the "gay missions" yeah I rolled my eyes a little and moved on but outside of that it's still an amazing game. Movement is extremely fast and flows into combat really well. I love the chases over the city. And while the story was short there were still emotional moments that got to me. I liked the scene with aunt May teaching Peter about balance and thought this plays a big role in the story

It could be. I do feel Insomniac has been spread too thin, and the cracks started to show in Spider-Man 2. The first game's story hit on such an emotional level, and was kind of the perfect Spidey immersion experience, to me. Part 2 has a lot of ambition, but it feels too rushed in its narrative, and like there's more spectacle than substance. It plays really well, but I felt kind of empty after finishing it. I hope they can pull it back for the next one.

Bring in other characters that would help Spider-Man.. The Human Torch, Iceman, Firestar, Hulk, Ben Reilly, A-Bomb, Captain America, Wolverine, DareDevil, The Thing, She-Hulk, and Spider-Gwen. Think about the coolest interactions right there for a Spider-Man game.

I'm a black guy and I hated how they nerfed Peter, made MJ ugly AF and super annoying. Make it a Peter Parker game with suits that people actually want, Miles can have a DLC story expansion, no MJ missions and her beautiful and give Peter his old face back! Idk, I just feel like the replay factor is kinda gone? Like- once you beat New Game + there is literally nothing left for you to do. Super easy game to platinum, even more than the first two. What I think Insomniac should develop are some Arkham style AR missions that let you replay key areas from the story, and tack on some challenges to them, like never being spotted in stealth. Or even an endless combat challenge that progressively gets harder, like the Iceberg Lounge challenge in Arkham. Behind the challenges could be coins that unlock even more skins. Side note- I agree about the weird changes that feel like mandates from higher ups. Peter felt like his current comics counterpart in the story (meaning he keeps having to be saved and apologize constantly, very rarely getting W’s for himself). They literally wrote his retirement into the plot. I’m still calling it that he will die in the 3rd game

Peter will be the main for SM3. It will wrap up his era. Then Marvel/Insomniac will launch a PROPER Miles (reboot but not reboot) continuance. It's a lot easier for the games to stay canon.

Regarding marketing costs, the same leaks that said the second game costs 200 mil also contained information that said marketing for either the first or second game is 30 million dollars. I can't remember which is it but I would assume the numbers should be close for both. Video game marketing rarely reach the same levels and costs as movie marketing since they're more targeted. It's very rare to see ads for video games in my country whereas you'll be likely to see movie ads for movies that cost a fraction of what SM2 costs. Usually only the big guns like CoDs, GTAs, and now Chinese gacha games like Genshin and HSR get such big marketing budgets. The 300 mil for SM 2 also includes the money they paid to Marvel, which is 100 mil. Effectively speaking the license is marketing, since put Spiderman onto anything will make the product sell.

After Miles Spider-man they probably only had 3 years to work on marvel Spider-man 2. I like Spider-man 2 but hearing what the developers were planning would have been better. But of course Sony rushed them to release it in 2023. This does makes me worried for Spider-man 3 Sony might rushed them to release it early.

It has some major problems like you said. The third game shouldn’t be the last because there are too many plot points they have to solve in one game. And the third game needs major improvements like new open world activities after beating the game because it feels boring and bland now. It can’t solve all those problems in just one game.

We need to see some more of the Marvel Universe in a third game. No other heroes showing up during an ALIEN INVASION OF NEW YORK added to the third act feeling pretty underwhelming. In Web of Shadows, the last chunk of the game truly feels apocalyptic. It was way longer, and we got to see how other characters in the universe were trying to deal with it. In Spiderman 2, the invasion lasts like 2 days, and then it's over.

I think it's in trouble, they definitely closed a lot of doors with the second game, most of those were too soon. Going into the 3rd game we kinda don't have enough doors to go through. It looks like they want to go into a superior spiderman arch but I can't see that playing out any differently than the Symbiote arch, where Ock takes over, Spidey goes bad, miles reaches out and pulls Peter back. They really have to get some serious writers in there to save the day, but with how locked off they are in being as inoffensive as possible I really don't think that's going to happen.

As a big fan of the first two games i fully think that spiderman 2 felt indisasive like it was at war with itself and it dont know what really wanted to be so i think the key for spiderman 3 is it needs to be more streamlined and simpler like the first two games were there was way too much going on in marvels spiderman 2 they need to take a few steps back choose specifically what avenue the story should go fully commit to that one or two ideas and go for it and don't let be indisasive where the story threads dont add up to a satisfying conclusion

Spider-Man 2 was good. The only thing that was missing was the tech spidy used in the first game. I like the abilities. But next time, they should add both abilities and tech. The swinging was improved and the story was solid. Hopefully in 3, we don’t play as miles half the game. I want to play as Parker as well.

Imo because the canned the DLC probably due to the leaks they need to do another tie in game probably around miles and introduce SILK into the universe. Have its main antagonist as carnage tie that stuff up and tease the introduction of Norman's green goblin right at the end with Peter returning so that way its all ready for a cleaner more focused SM3 That's if the rumoured venom game doesnt come but honestly we dont need a venom game because as bad as that arc was it had an end when Peter anti venomed it out if existence

I thought Spider-Man 2 was really excellent. The problems with it felt more like nitpicks to me than serious flaws. I do think they’re in a tough spot where this type of game has been done to death, and that makes it hard to deliver something new and exciting for players. They did a good job imo even though things could have been more fleshed out.

They also removed a lot of great stuff, like the gadget, actually good side quests and enemy camps, and suits, and replaced them with biking levels, a graffiti simulator, bee drone simulators, a basketball mini game, a DJ mini game, and fill coney island with a bunch of crap I wouldn’t go to an actual carnival to play.

It's simple, how will they develop Harry's story - in the 3rd game they will kill Harry, kill MJ (the goblin will kill her) and show us the suffering of Peter and the goblin who destroys the city. Well, because it's insonmiak, dude. Their plots are not working. So it's easier to kill secondary characters - yes, the game failed, but they will introduce Cindy Moon and Miles will become the main spider - that's what they are counting on.

As an Ultimate Spider-Man fan, I hated Miles existence because they killed Peter. So it was Insomniac and Into The Spider-Verse that made me love him now. I really like his stand alone game. I didn’t mind most of his presence in 2 but nerfing down Peter was a horrible decision. If you take a shot every time Peter got thrown into something, smashing his back, some would pass out. I hope the third game starts off with Miles but something happens where Peter has to come back. I don’t want Miles dead obviously but either a personal connection to Osborn or Octavius would be okay. Then when it’s resolved, Miles can take back over for the future

I wished SM2 had DLC but since they don’t here’s my idea on how to tie up some lose ends so SM3 doesn’t feel crowed: 1. A Venom game that’s set in the same universe where Carnage is the main threat, & this is just a personal thing I don’t want Peter to keep the symbiot in SM3 so while fighting Carnage (with the Spider-men & Yuri) Peter will lose the anti-venom suit. That’s just so the symbiot story doesn’t get dragged into SM3, I wanted them to finish it up in 2. 2. We should have a SM Miles Morales 2 game which shows how Silk gets her powers & Miles taking her under his wing which would lead into… 3. A Silk game, that’s basically it, I mean make sure Peter & Miles aren’t in NYC so they can’t help but this is just to help flesh out her character more & so in SM3 we aren’t going to have her get her powers, learn how to use them, & become playable all in 1 game. That would be WAY too much

I honestly don't see how a Venom game will work since the symbiote was quite clearly vaporized at the end of Marvels Spider-Man 2, and even if it's still alive in Harry's blood system I doubt Harry Osborn would want anything to do with Venom ever again after the things he made him do and the Hell he put him his friends and countless innocence though, plus assuming it takes place before Marvels Spider-Man 3 him coming out of that coma alive, well and in control of himself would ruin Norman Osborns motivation for going after Spider-Man, so unless they have the symbiote leave Harry to find a new host and introduce either Flash Thompson or Eddie Brock to take up the mantle I don't see how it will work.

Especially considering the lack of extra content & DLC they ought to have brought the focus down to just Peter discovering the Symbiote’s powers (eventually gaining Venom levels of strength perhaps). Really they should have brought Miles role right down too!! like to where Robin or Catwoman are in Arkham City. I love the Mysterio missions incidentally. The Symbiote Arc never gets dealt with properly outside the comic space . Is it really that hard to have a full game or Movie whereby he still has the costume at the end. Or a full animated series based on the arc. Mostly the lack of DLC is the problem it just needed 1 more enemy type with some enemy bases.

Make the world a bit more interactable and give us the ability to play as peter, just walking around. Even if there isnt much to do, itd honestly tie this together almost as much as possible as far as the game being a "spider-man simulator" could go. Have a mechanic where you have to find hiding places or actively avoid other's lines of sight when changing into your costume. Do that and let you toggle the symbiote and nanotech arms, no mj mission, and bring in the green goblin already. Boom. Magnum opus, not even complicated at all despite all these words. Like i cant name a single thing else i could ask for
