The thought process exists well before masturbation begins. If you think it, you've done it. The ridiculous thing I'm finding is that no one understands the concept of physical sexual relief, without associating porn, dirty thoughts, or fantasy. If you know anything about the male anatomy, you know that after several days or a week of abstaining, you don't need a dirty thought to aid in this process of eliminating build up. What would you rather .. burn with sexual desire for weeks on end, fighting every trigger that crosses your path, (which only increases with length of abstinence), or have a normal, non-adulterous, not filthy, non pornographic release, just as you would relieve other bodily substances. I find it appalling that people think you can't masturbate without lustful thoughts. Typically people who advocate this are not free from lustful thoughts at all .. in fact they have a worse case of it than a mature Christian who learns to relieve him/herself without contaminating the mind.

There are a lot of situations where a spouse is not available such as youth, a sexless marriage, medical issues, etc. A man has a God-given need for frequent releases - how is he to honor God's plan when he cannot turn to marriage?

I know a man who had a sexless marriage. They loved each other but after 15 years, she lost interest in it. She became very religious in her Catholic faith and thought sex was disgusting. They went for counseling and tried everything, nothing improved. He was very healthy and always horny. To make matters worse, women flirted with him and wanted to take him home but he declined. He ended up having prostate issues and became very stressed out. They ended up separating and he remarried, which is another Sin by the Catholic church. I'm sure others are going thru this to. Life is too short to go thru life miserable. Once you take your last breathe, there's no going back.

After a while the pressure builds up and becomes very uncomfortable and it needs releasing. I 100% agree with you how masturbation is not a sin. I don't believe masturbation is a sin as long as you're not looking at pornography while masturbating, as long as you're not masturbating in public, and as long as you don't masturbate too much. Philippians 4:8 tells us to fill our minds with things that are pure, wholesome, and of good report, and when a person is looking at pornography, they're not filling their minds with things that are pure, wholesome, and of good report. It's a sin to masturbate in public because it's illegal to masturbate in public, and Romans 13 tells us to obey the laws. Masturbating too much is a sin because the Bible mentions how overdoing something, addictions, etc are sins. Masturbating to deal with urges you have to help prevent you from engaging in premarital sex, adultery, threesomes, orgies, etc is not a sin. A lot of people use the lust argument to prove that masturbation is a sin since Matthew 5:28 says "Whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart". It's important to remember that lust doesn't not mean the same thing as daydreaming, thinking sexual thoughts, fantasizing, etc. Lust means the same thing as covet. Lust means planning, intending, attempting, etc. The Greek word for lust in Matthew 5:28 means planning, coveting, intending, attempting, etc; not fantasizing, daydreaming, thinking sexual thoughts, etc. The Greek word for woman in Matthew 5:28 is ginh, which means a woman that's not your spouse if you are married or a woman who isn't your spouse if you are married; not women in the general sense. The definition of adultery is when a married person engages in physical intimacy with someone that isn't their spouse or when a single person engages in physical intimacy with someone who is married. It's not considered adultery when 2 single people have sex. It's fornication when 2 unmarried people have sex, but it's not adultery. When the Bible says "Whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery in his heart", it means that planning or attempting to commit adultery, a married man going out on dates with women that aren't his spouse that he has crushes on, a married man making hotel reservations with women that aren't his spouse, etc is just as bad as actually committing adultery just like in God's eyes attempted murder is just as bad as actually committing murder. Another argument I hear as to why masturbation is a sin is how the thoughts people think about while masturbating are sinful, and it's impossible to masturbate without having sinful thoughts in your mind. The problem with an argument like that is God gave humans a sex drive that causes them to have sexual urges, sexual thoughts, etc. It's not a sin to have sexual thoughts, think sexual thoughts in your mind, have sexual urges, etc. If it's not a sin to have sexual thoughts, think sexual thoughts in your mind, etc, it means that masturbating and thinking sexual thoughts in your mind while masturbating is not a sin. I hear the argument how masturbating is a sin because the Bible says in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 how your body is a temple of God. When the Bible says how your body is a temple of God, that means that people shouldn't do anything to damage or destroy their bodies. If masturbating damages or destroys someone's body, it would mean that masturbating is a sin, but there's no evidence that masturbating damages or destroys a person's body. There's no evidence masturbation causes health problems. If masturbating caused health problems, it would be a sin to masturbate, but there's no evidence masturbation causes health problems. Some people use the argument how masturbating is a sin because the Bible says that sex outside of marriage is a sin, and when someone is masturbating and single, it's sex outside of marriage, and when a married person is masturbating, they're having sex with someone that isn't their spouse. The problem with an argument like that is sex implies 2 people, more than 1 person, etc. Masturbating is not sex. Masturbating is not considered sex. People don't lose their virginity by masturbating. When the Bible says don't engage in fleshly sinful behavior, it doesn't mean it's a sin to do things that feel good; it means it's a sin to engage in sinful behavior that feels good. Doing things that feel good that aren't sinful isn't a sin, but doing things that feel good that are sins are considered sins. Fleshly sinful behavior means sinful behavior that feels good. I believe masturbation is a great self control method that helps prevent people from engaging in sinful sexual behavior such as premarital sex, adultery, threesomes, orgies, prostitution, etc. Masturbating helps people deal with sexual urges in healthy ways just like punching punching bags and lifting weights help people deal with anger with healthy ways. Masturbating can help prevent someone from acting like a pervert. When a guy is in a relationship with a girl and the girl wants to wait until marriage for sex while the guy wants to have sex now, masturbating can help the guy be more patient and understanding.

I don't know what version of the Bible you read but Leviticus 15 clearly states that masturbation is a sin when done by a man . However nowhere it states that masturbation by a woman is a sin . The reason is that when God created the world , the divine feminine was first , God inseminated ( nothing sexual ) the divine feminine and all things became alive. The loss of semen not used for creation or procreation especially outside of marriage, emits a creative force that demons feed on . I 100% agree with you that exposing yourself to pornography is not only sinful, but it will soil you, and may even ensnare you. But leaving pornograhy aside, the problem I see with masturbation in general is that in nearly all cases, there's an element of fantasy involved in it which involves another person. If you're imagining yourself having sexual relations with anyone else, it's as though you are actually committing the deed with that person. I believe that to be sinful, in light of Jesus' claim that if you lust after someone, it's as tho you have committed adultery with that person. But, as you touched on, many people who are single (and there are many reasons for being single), do experience sexual desires which arouse them without the person doing anything to invite these desires to manifest themselves. You may be asleep & be awakened with these desires. For most people, especially those who are used to having sexual relations, this desire can be so overwhelming that it may cause them to pursue a sexual relationship outside of marriage. I cannot stress how often I've seen this play out - unrelieved sexual desire can be so overpowering it may just drive a single person into a sexually immoral relationship. I think that single people need to make this issue a daily prayer priority, that their desires would abate, but whilst they are still experiencing such overpowering sexual urges, then I don't see anything wrong with masturbation as long as no fantasies involving any other person or persons are involved. The mind can be trained to accomplish this. And even if I am wrong, and masturbation is a sin whatever the circumstances, I believe it to be a better option than entering into fornication or adultery. I don't see another option if your unfullfilled desires continue to grow despite praying that they begone. The good news is that as we get older (much older), less habituated to sex, and as a result of fervent prayer, the desires do get less. But whilst the desires are so very strong they are extremely hard to resist. Physical changes accompany arousal, endorphins are building up in the body, blood flow to the genitalia increases substantially ... these things make it incredibly hard to focus on anything else until there is a release. It seems to me fighting sexual arousal is as difficult as fighting the urge to empty a completely full bladder - you can think of nothing else but release.

The speaker uses the example of a time of loss, of grief, to justify masturbation in some cases. Ok. Then what about getting drunk during times of grief? Because it's serving the same purpose. Obedience is not just avoiding sin. Obedience is active serving. "Thou shalt love (active) the Lord you God with ALL your heart, ALL your soul, ALL your strength." And when Paul said "all things are lawful," he didn't mean literally all things. Any child could make out a list of things that are never lawful. Obviously what Paul was saying was that just because there isn't a law against a certain behavior, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

The word - masturbation - is very weird word and I think better to use - the sexual self-indulgence. And this is not a sin. It is not sin more than eating or drinking if it is not mastering you. You eat because you need it but also because you enjoy it. But you can overeat and ruin your health. If you are a single, you indulge yourself sometimes and it is a natural response to your natural need in the same way as your natural need to eat, but it cannot master you. Otherwise it will ruin your life in the same way as an alcoholism or overeating etc. God has given you a mind and heart to discern between the good and bad and to evaluate the fruits which come out of it. But if God somehow will tell you that you should not do it and you still do it, then it is sin. And this is only your sin because you did not listen what God has told you personally not to do. Your approach is balanced and effective. I think there is a citation about “spilling one’s seed on the ground” but I don’t remember where it occurs and it isn’t relevant for women. For me the teachings of my own Catholic upbringing are misguided. God created us in His image and likeness. Our sexuality was a great gift in that light. It is a creative ability which bonds spouses and can bring children. The evil arrived when it became shameful or violent and that became a twisted sort of pleasure. As you say, there may be times when it is not sinful but it is difficult to keep this in check. I don’t think watching porn is that common as an enhancement but I do think that your mind goes there and there is evil again because it easily becomes an addiction. So you make an excellent point about our use of a gift that we have been given. This is a realistic and meaningful look at the issue unlike other guidelines which are actually lurid.
