You are in one of the safest areas in all of Mexico. The southern states like Oaxaca are beautiful and generally problem-free.The vast majority of the violence is in the northern part of the country, near the border. Parts of Mexico are extremely dangerous, this is a fact. Over 170,000 people have been murdered or disappeared in Mexico in the past decade. It’s like #3 in the entire world for murder rate. Doesn’t mean you’re likely to run into any issues as a tourist though. I have traveled all over Mexico, and never had a serious problem either. I’m 100% with you though, western media is bullshit.

I got robbed right after arriving in Phnom Penh last year. Someone on a motorbike took my bag off the tuk tuk I was on. It had my ipad etc. It was my third visit since 2010. So there is definitely petty theft in Cambodia.

same thing online on forums and reviews. I traveled south east asia to party and all i saw online was people saying theres tons of undercover cops that will bust you with drugs...meanwhile in vietnam we said fuck it and took up the street dealers offers and it was all fine. In fact we didnt even see a single cop in vietnam. Thailand there was cops but they didn't do shit unless there was a fight. The people who write reviews and shit online are people who maybe they had an experience happen to them and they think it happens to everyone else.

Well bro, as long as you have a safe trip, nothing happens to you then, of course, you will think and say its all good but, if you have the unfortunate experience like getting rolled and shot your attitude and opinion will quickly change and for the worse, its all about each one individual experience
