Miami is much more than Miami Beach and the GTA 6 image of the city! Is it the American Dream?

______________
Miami is a unique city in the United States in that it has a distinctive Latin American and Caribbean flair due to where a lot of Miamians hail from originally. Miami is a city in America where so many different groups of people have come to build a life by the sea! From Miami’s little known origin story as a riverside community inhabited by Native American tribes such as the Miccosukee tribe, to the early migrations of Bahamians and Cubans, Miami is a city built and continuously shaped by people from other places. In this episode, I explore the city beyond the tourist areas of Miami Beach including the Everglades, Liberty City, Little Havana, Wynwood and Doral to meet some of the people that call Miami home. At the end of my trip I'm left wondering whether Miami represents the "American Dream," what do you think?

Miami is a fascinating city in the United States. It’s unique in that it’s got a big Latin and Caribbean influence due to the inhabitants that call Miami home and its cultural landscape continues to evolve as new groups of people arrive. It’s a place that people historically came in waves, and continue to come to, in order to build a better life for themselves. Is Miami the American Dream? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

As a resident of Miami, I can tell you it's a nice place to visit, but the farthest thing from the American Dream. Overpopulated, jobs are underpaid, housing is absurdly expensive, some of the rudest people in the entire world live here, unbearably hot and humid summers, threats of hurricanes, tornados, flooding... I could go on. I'm looking to move in the next year.

Thank you for doing what most journalists don't cover when it comes to the Americas - speaking about and educating people on black and indigenous history, especially in relation to racial disparity and colonization. Ocean Drive is a famous boulevard in Miami Beach with Art Deco buildings, restaurants, bars, and nightclubs. It is a popular tourist destination and known for its vibrant nightlife. The famous scene from the film "Scarface" (1983), where Tony Montana (played by Al Pacino) and his friend Manny Rivera (played by Steven Bauer) disrupt the drug deal with the Colombians, was filmed on Ocean Drive in Miami Beach. This scene specifically takes place at the fictional "Sun Ray Hotel," which is actually represented by the Art Deco District on Ocean Drive. The location of this scene is at 728 Ocean Drive, where a restaurant called "Johnny Rockets" is now located. This part of Ocean Drive is famous for its historic Art Deco architecture and is often used as a filming location because of its iconic appearance. Tnx for the inspiration, love u😍

Your videos have the exact same feeling as watching Globe Trekkers. There is no "what I think", most of the time your are an observer where you are visiting... you give voice to others to paint the picture of what the place is. Amazing work! As a resident of Miami, not a Native (from New England) I can honestly say Miami is a great city. I just wouldn’t say it’s that diverse. Mostly Cuban, and primarily Hispanic. My wife, who is Jamaican, but grew up in Miami visited Boston with me. She was amazed how many languages were spoken in a park we hung out in. Being of mixed race…black, white, and look Hispanic, I can fully say that Miami is a great city, just not a diverse a most people think. Your piece did well at trying to connect with the communities, and did an amazing job compared to pretty much every other KZbinr, but the piece that is missing is the continued struggle for a lot of groups that come to Miami, for years, and continue to struggle because of the influx of new people. Yes, some have made it, but many that built Miami, much like my ancestors that built this country dripping blood and tears, still struggle to get a seat at the table, and receive their piece of the “pie”. Living in Carol City for many years, now Kendall, after living in Jamaica for awhile, you have to really live here to understand and appreciate what Miami actually is.

Funny that you showed "Islas Canarias" restaurant. A lot of people don't know in the United States that the first Spanish-citizens brought into the Caribbean (West Indies) were from the Canary Islands. People from the Canary Islands are of mixed races (Portuguese, Spanish, Italians, and Africans). These were the first Spanish-citizens sent by Spain to populate their territory. Don't forget that Florida was a Spanish territory at one point, and black slaves used to escape from the United States into Florida to be free and become Spanish citizens.

Extremely happy you started with the Bahamians because the local Latins don’t recognize Miami’ history. Great reporting here.

Thank you for this very nice video. I live in Miami Beach, and I found it most interesting. I had to smile at the Wynwood part. I saw it come up, flourish, and start drowning in its own success. Please come again anytime. And end the next time with sunset at South Pointe Park.

Good stuff. The culture is interesting and women with Caribbean heritage have a unique look and skin color. Some have those curly hair and they are fine looking ladies. Maybe a place to visit, but nothing like CA Bay Area.

LOL. I noticed that too. If you ask people in MIami where they're from, they'll always say where their parents are from, and they won't cheer for the U.S. in soccer. Ridiculous

Growing up in Hialeah was wonderful, but south Florida is way over crowded. Cost of living is extremely high, crime rate, traffic I call central Florida home now. Don’t miss the fast life.

I wanted to give you priase for a wonder video. I was thoroughly enteained and educated. But I have one question regarding the gentrification of certain areas of Miami. Could it be also argued that when the wave of Cuban, Central and South Americans came to Miami they gentrified areas? Many of the areas indentifed in the video were not originally Latin American areas.
