Recently, Michael Afton’s status as a hero character has been called into question by other KZbinrs. After all, he seems plenty willing to do William Afton’s bidding during the events of the 5th Five Nights at Freddy’s game, Sister Location, so wouldn’t that mean they were working together?
Well, with evidence from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator and the Survival Logbook, we may be able to find an answer

Sister Location is after 1993. As we know from Fourth Closet there is 5 souls of children in funtime freddy and funtime foxy. These kids are William's old victims. So after William destroyed the animatronics at the FNAF 1 Location the souls possesed the f. Foxy and f. Freddy. This is proven by Henry's words in Ffps.

I think William was using Mike's guilt for accidentally killing his brother to manipulate him into thinking he could save his family but after he got scooped he came to his senses and started working to put a stop to it all.

Yeah I think is the most accurate way of looking at Michael Afton’s character. A man who was tricked to help his father, but when he realized what his father was doing he turned against him and tried his best to stop him no matter what.

I wonder if their relationship was even good to begin with after the bite of 83. Considering William was willing to kill to "put his son back together again", wouldn't he be furious with the person who did it to him? I personally don't think Michael was working with his father. I think William took advantage of Michaels desperation to get his siblings back and sent him to sister location to die

I think Michael makes one of the most satisfying audience POV's, his character has a very satisfying story what with his redemption from being Foxybro and tormented by nightmares and such to getting a (supposedly) happy ending with his burning away. The interesting between Michael and William is interesting and I do lean towards them working together until SL, whenever that game is in the timeline. Not a full hero, not quite antihero. Just a very neat storytelling character who remains morally grey enough to be interesting in a series with so many mysteries that it's easy to feel "disconnected" from every character because their true motives are always so hidden.

Micheal isnt trying to bring his family back, hes trying to undo all the chaos his father has done. In FNAF 1 you’re fired for tampering with the animatronics and odor. Odor meaning he was already in his decaying state from Sister Location. And his line “I’m going to come find you” meaning he’s going to come find and end William’s rain of terror. All Mike wants is to undo all the tragedy and sorrow in his family name.

And he isn’t working with William, anymore though. William asked him to go down to the Sister Location, location and free Elizabeth’s soul from Circus Baby. After he was scooped by Ennard he was assumed dead until Elizabeth kept reassuring him “You’re not dead” until he finally got back up. After that he set his goal on undoing everything his psychotic father had done.

So help wanted throws a wrench in this with a peculiar line. Tape girl mentions Fazbears firing process, specifically mentioning how the company would use small reasons as justification, or even make stuff up to justify firing people. So say Micheal was alive. His father became a guard at the fnaf 2 location, and 5 more children die, Micheal thinks he might be able to find a lead by looking at the suits, and maybe he does, Faz Bear fires him. The last thing they need is the public knowing a former owner was a murderer, or even a suspect. That would permanently destroy the brand.

My biggest argument for thinking we play as Michael in FNAF 3 is the jumpscare. It’s so different from other jumpscares in the games - the animation looks more like springtrap is walking up to someone rather than jumping at them. This not-really-a-jumpscare would make the most sense if springtrap is approaching someone he knows and doesn’t want to kill (at least at that point). However, I don’t think Michael is really “with” William in FNAF 3 or SL, I think a lot of his motivation is related to the crying child. Maybe Michael and William’s interactions during FNAF 3 is what makes William realize Michael is against him?

I've always gotten the vibe that Micheal knew something was weird, I think the immortal and the restless was a direct analogy to how this played out. This is backed up by the logbook where Micheal mentions he relates to Clara. "Father, did you know something about those five kids?" "Why does Fredbear look at me through the window at home?" "Why do we have a underground bunker!?" So on so forth, and then the show ends with Micheal burning down the fnaf 3 location. Edit: I just realized this take would imply Micheal's method of dealing with his father was inspired by his favorite TV show. And it's very possible the first thing ennard did was watch Micheal show, or Micheal caught a rerun after ennard left. Personally I prefer the first one though.

That's where I land as well, likely working with William to some extent prior to Sister Location but absolutely not by the time of Pizzeria Simulator. And probably not in the sense that he went around helping with the murder or anything like that, but might've harbored some suspicions yet helped with collecting pieces from the animatronics or whatever anyway (I don't have strong feelings on the exact role, just the general relationship). I've wondered whether he could be Candy Cadet's boy with the snake, but not too sure atm. Mike as the FNaF3 protag... the Logbook seems to really hint he is, yet Afton in Pizzeria Simulator seems to really hint he isn't (you can't tell me he genuinely thought Michael wouldn't realize Springtrap and Scraptrap are the same, no way does he think Michael is _that_ dumb...), so my stance is a solid _shrug_ for now.

I've seen this a lot in fanfiction and it really makes sense to me: Michael as a potentially neglected or abused, grieving child, craving love from his father, thinks he'll get it by doing what William says, up until he's betrayed in sister location when he then goes for revenge

I like the thought of Michael (and the other Afton kids if they lived) being like a puppet for William. He helps his father and does what he's told, but he doesn't know William's true intentions. And if he pushes, William just repeats what he said and finds a way to undercut/guilt Mike. And since William would be all Michael has by SL, he doesn't want to lose that too. As for Michael being a hero, I think he is. Or at least a good person. His motivations aren't 100% selfless, but he gets that redemption arc and he does good in the end.

Personally I think William was just using mike to get Lizzy back but I suppose that maybe backfired due to the fact that mike got scooped and used as a suit. Also I have a video idea. I don’t know if it’s exactly focusing on the lore but I’ve always thought about how circus baby was misused. It’s clear that she thought the player was William in SL and promptly, no hesitation or regret, kills him. BUT in FFPS, she suddenly is a daddy’s girl willing to do anything for him. You could argue that Elizabeth took over, but how?? There’s so much unnecessary off-screen change we didn’t need. Only to connect the books with the games. This is just something I think about often

My take on Michael was always that he was similar to a ‘chosen one’ in all sorts of media, only he didn’t want to be it, or really know what he was doing. To me he always read as someone who just wanted to make up for his mistakes, and he did so by following his father, until he realized how horrible his father was, and then started trying to fix his *fathers* mistakes, by freeing the children

So it sounds like while he wasnt the hero at the start, he was never really a villain. He worked with his father unbeknownst of his true intentions and spent the various locations trying to free the kids' souls (especially in PS) so i think he had good intentions from the start but was involved with the wrong person, considering his father sent him down to be slaughtered

I’m confident that Mike is the main protagonist in every game from FNAF 1-6 (with the exception of FNAF 2). He’s using an alias in FNAF 1, an alias in FNAF 2 (something I’ve noticed is that the kid possessing Foxy is named “Fritz,” and Michael wears a Foxy mask in FNAF 4, so Mike has a connection to the name “Fritz”), he sees hallucinations of his past experiences (FNAF 1 and 2 animatronics) in FNAF 3 (similar to Hudson in What We Found), he’s the one facing the Nightmare Animatronics (in a dream at least, still unsure if FNAF 4 was also a real thing and is possibly experienced by the Crying Child/Bite Victim/Evan/IDK), and he’s definitely the protag in Sister Location and Pizzeria Simulator.

I honestly think that Micheal worked all locations except for FNaF 4, which I assume Evan ( the crying child ) was there after the bite, like a nightmare that repeated until he died. I think Mike's always been trying to put his family, and Williams victims out of their misery. He had a lot of chances in the off-time of william being dead to check out any blueprints. Including how it is pretty safe to assume Michael security guarded FNAF 1-3, he was most likely very much aware of what his father did, and how Williams actions left many suffering. Or he figured all that out after getting scooped, so up until that point he may have been helping william unaware of his activities. I think Micheal just wanted to have his family back. His own stupid joke, his father’s creations, they took away the ones he loved. Children in abusive households will lash out, I think that’s what Micheal was doing when he put his little brother in Fredbear’s mouth; he was acting out. Even in teenage years, the brain doesn’t have proper cause and effect logic, you don’t actively gain that until you reach the age of 24-25, that’s when the brain stops growing and functions at its fullest. Micheal just wanted his siblings back, and he wanted to make William proud, unaware that William was broken beyond repair and had become a monster that couldn’t be stopped. I genuinely don’t think it’s fair that he (Micheal) is killed off in Sister Location, I really think we could have seen him grow as a character. It’d be poetic justice if the man he wanted to love and protect him, came to an end because his son grew up to be a bigger man.

Honestly, I fully agree. While I doubt the full knowledge Michael had during sister location - as all we know is that he was told to, from what we can assume William said (albeit this is based on Michaels words lol), ‘put her back together’, it seems he was working with William with the idea of helping his sister (which I think it’s also important to note that to everyone, bar William, Elizabeth would be ‘missing’ as circus baby is a stealth killer after all.), but, and I think we discussed this in a previous comment, where we discussed if William likely sent Michael to die at sister location in his stead, which Michael unfortunately did, but after that l presume Michael was 100% against his father based on both his words - “I’m going to come find you…” - and his actions alone as well - as you mentioned in other videos, following his father and being just a bit too late to stop him in FNAF 2, going from location to location and undoing the wrongs (well attempting to). And as you mention in this, William striving to kill Michael in both FNAF 6 and 3 (which imo, Michael is the more likely protagonist of FNAF 3 as well, if it’s Henry it just feels…outta place) kinda point to it as well, and if you want further proof, look no further than William’s dialogue when he kills Michael in FNAF 6 - “Bittersweet…but fitting!” The man sounds gleeful over killing his own son, saying it was ‘fitting’ that he killed him (I can only presume as William had a major role in each of his other children’s deaths lol). But it just shows that William and Michael are at direct odds. And then if we’re looking at book parallels - we have various parallels in ‘You’re the Band’ that showcase ‘Mike’ the security guard trying to prevent possessed objects doing harm to living people - in this case the main character, Sylvia’s son Timmy. These are of course parallels, but they do well in capturing the personality of Michael. And if we need even more, let’s look to the Vengeful spirit as well lol, who would have the most against William and his accomplices if there were any, specifically Orville Elephants UCN quote “He tried to release you! He tried to release us! But I’m not going to let that happen. I will hold you here. I will keep you here. No matter how many times…they burn us…” - they implying multiple people have attempted to burn and free them - which can only be Michael and Henry - and I doubt the Vengeful spirit would be speaking highly of Michael if he was secretly on his father side for multiple decades. Michael just seems, after sister location, to be trying to free everyone - including his father based on “He tried to release you!” - and stop all this madness from occurring. Once again, I apologise for the essay XD I can write and write and write lol, but there’s a lot of interesting points to discuss, especially about Michael. I don’t know if you’ve thought about doing character analysis on characters, but I would love to see something like that about the main characters of FNAF, only if that is something you’re actually interested in doing of course XD. I think Michael is a disturbed man. We don't know why William and Michael are compared so much. But at the end of SL we see him look more like the purple sprite his father was. His dialouge and actions are what no regular person would endure. As he subjects himself to multiple animatronics hunting him down. Micheal is very strange, and its clear to see he is a morally ambigious character. But I'd say Micheal while misguided, similiar to Baby, choses the right path in the end. Where Baby and William fail, Micheal succeeds.

I also can't help but feel bad for Michael, he's a boy who can only really be described as ‘Collateral damage,’ a boy who’s life was ruined by his fathers destructive path of killings. He accidentally killed his younger brother whenever they were little and had to deal with the horrific guilt that brought him for the rest of his life, which would possibly even bring about William’s own murderous spree. In total, Michael is just a traumatized by the death of his younger brother and spends the rest of his whole, too short, life trying to redeem himself, only to then be kind of killed, BRUTALLY by his own sister; only to then be possesed by her and all her friends.😔

So you know your video on the Mimic? In my opinion, Help Wanted and Security Breach kind of show the Mimic to be Glitchtrap and Burntrap, but I feel Princess Quest kind of shows that the Mimic can't be (Atleast the Princess Quest version of) Glitchtrap, for a few reasons. 1. In Princess Quest, Glitchtrap says " always come back, let me out.", which the Mimic wouldn't be able to mimic for 2 reasons. Reason 1 is that it wasn't there in the 2 Canon locations William says "I always come back", which is in the FNAF 6 pizzeria and in UCN. Reason 2 is that "I always come back" Is nowhere in the Help Wanted game files, apart from in Princess Quest, so the Mimic wouldn't of heard or seen it to be able to mimic it. 2. Why would the Mimic be after Cassidy? When I watched RyeToast's video on the Mimic, he said that William was most likely trapped in hell, so what if Princess Quest Glitchtrap is somehow William asking Cassidy to let him out of hell, as the Mimic wouldn't need Cassidy to let it out if it was already using Vanessa after the failed attempt on Jeremy.

What I think is that Michael hadn’t heard from his father for a long time and didn’t know he was a murderer. One day, William calls him, telling him Elizabeth is in an old factory. William wants to release his daughter, and doesn’t really care what happens to Michael. Michael is confused about how Elizabeth is alive, but goes anyway. Sister Location happens. Michael figures out what his father has been doing, and sets off to find him. FNAF 3 happens. Michael tries burning his father. William survives. Michael is contacted by Henry, then FFPS happens.

Mike is not following William’s directions for the majority of the series. For the most part he’s kinda doing his own thing. Him going to Sister Location is, I think, less of him following Billy’s orders and more doing a favor and “the right thing” for him by attempting to lay Elizabeth’s soul to rest. In a roundabout manner, Mike going to the Sister Location was the catalyst for laying her soul to rest in Pizza Sim. So, Mike encounters Springtrap offscreen and they converse, Will tells Mike that Elizabeth’s soul is in Baby, FNAF 2 and 1 happen, Sister Location happens either before 2 or between 1 and 3, 3 happens with Mike trying to troll his dad (“I’m going to come find you”), then Pizza Sim happens as Mike finds out his dad sure is still alive, and this time Mike burns with the building to make sure Will dies with him.

I have another theory backing up mine explaining why freddy shutdown (I assume this hasn't already been explained). Because Gregory was inside freddy, burntrap wasn't able to control freddy because of the "rule" I set last time. And because burntrap was trying to take over him, Gregory was a human, therefore, blocking the virus from entering freddy's endo-skeleton.

I still like the theory that Michael is the bite victim from fnaf 2 and that sister location is him being tricked into doing stuff cause he got brain damage and doesn't know what he's doing really.

Though that would mean fnaf 1, 2 and 4 happens before sister location, meaning that Michael had always been stinky even before the scoop. Or ya know, the company giving a bad excuse to fire him. Though in this theory, Michael is ripping apart the animatronics to try and find the bodies, and that's why he gets fired twice.

I'm glad you know the protagonist =/= a hero. Like, in general. Some people conflate them. Just like how an antagonist isn't always a villain, just an antagonizer.

I think Mike working *for* William would be more accurate than Mike working *with* William. William is basically taking advantage of Mike and using him as his puppet, but Mike himself isn’t malicious and doesn’t have the same goals as William. He might be willing to work for William simply out of a desire to please his father. William isn’t a very good dad, after all.

I think Mike thought he and his father were working together until the end of SL, which then he learnt William was using him. And Mike then, in FNaF 3, wanted to kill William by burning the building down, and as it didn't work, FFPS he just wanted to finish the job

Feels weird to me that this would even be contested, since as soon as the Afton family pieces fell together it would a lot of sense he was cleaning up the old man’s mess to attone for his own sins in his brother’s death and prove he’s not like his dad since they’re compared so often. Smaller note: I think it’s interesting to consider FNAF3 here. Everyone always complains about Springtrap’s jumpscare (which LOL, imagine thinking the jumpscares are the scary part of FNAF), when to me it always felt more cold and calculating, like a psychopath should, but even more so if he recognized his own son he hadn’t seen in forever and wouldn’t know was gonna try and set him on fire.

My theory is that William wanted micheal to go down there so Elizabeth could kill him for killing his brother but what I think William didn’t expect was for mike to come back to life because if you think about it the only reason mike came back to life isn’t because of his own remnant but because of the already scooped animatronics remnant that cover the scooper. As to why baby tells Micheal you can’t die just to try and kill him as scrap baby again, who knows. Or the second explanation William called him mid springlock ID

My personal theory is that Michael wasn't entirely aware of what William was doing, and upon his scooping and learning more of what had been done, wanted to try and make things right, and put an end to it all, hence why he is more than happy to go up in flames in Pizzeria Simulator, as he knows that for it all to truly end, he has to burn as well.

I think Sister Location takes time in the timeline like, directly after fnaf 4 or even at the same time. The monitors in the secret room do show the fnaf 4 room, which wouldn’t make sense if the games didn’t happen at the same time.
