❓Is Mod Podge a SUBSTITUTE of a Clear Gesso ????

are you using gesso or mod podge ? what is your favourite medium to use ? maybe you wish me to test something out for you ?

I use clear gesso from Dana Wakley on top of my art journaling. It seems to work exactly like yours. It's super smooth, no grit, it's completely matte, it works like a glue and you can use Inktense pencils perfectly on top of it. I haven't tried watercolor though but since Inktense works I imagine watercolor would too.

I've been waiting to see your comparison results and agree with your assessment. I keep seeing posts on Facebook recommending Mod Podge when people ask what to use on journal pages, etc. After the one journal 2-page spread I did years ago with Mod Podge and the pages stuck together, I've never used Mod Podge again. I usually pass that on in the comments on Facebook but there is always someone who replies otherwise. Thank you for confirming my opinion.

I'm so glad you did this video! I did a Google search to see if I could use Mod Podge in place of clear gesso because I want to start my art journal. I don't have any clear gesso yet but after watching this, I think I will wait until I can get some.

I tried the “super matte” mod podge and was pleasantly surprised that it actually dries off completely matte, unlike the regular mod podge. I guess as a beginner I will go with the super matte mod podge, the results of your experiment were good enough for me except for the shiny end result 😅 Once I am confident enough, I will switch to clear gesso, it gives a more professional finish to the project. I feel like by doing that, you're affecting how you learn the techniques from the start.. and possibly get frustrating and self-defeating. Why wouldn't you just start out learning with the correct product that's going to give you better results to begin with? Just my opinion, though.

💜💜💜 I used the ModPodge for a while but the pages seemed to stay sticky. When I opened the pages of the book, the pages seemed to stick to each other. I switched to your clear gesso and LOVE it.

I bought clear gesso off amazon it's a lot cheaper than mod podge ok

I use diluted mod podge, recommended by youtube artists. Diluted like 1 part glue and 4 parts water. I wasn't sure if paint could work on this medium. Thank you for testing this!

I love little birdie clear gesso but I'm always worried it will be sold out. I love the smoothness of the little birdie. The liquitex has too much tooth for me. I look forward to your clear gesso tests

Hi Marta, I am so glad I discovered your channel. Absolutely love your work and your darling daughters. I have worked with modge podge before. You have to use the sealer or it will stick to other pieces. It is difficult to work with. I can’t wait to work with the gesso. I saw that you used it, so I ordered it as well as all your books. I will also will try gel medium to see if it works. Thank you so much for your videos.

Brilliant video .. thank you! Can you also please explain your use of white gesso on small random sections on some of your journal collages. I really love the way you do that. Does it stay white when it dries? Would really appreciate you explaining as all these things can be quite confusing. You make it all look so easy and your creations are amazing! ❤

Thank you, Marta. I started usinng clear gesso after watching you love it so much. I bought Dina Wakley clear gesso. I hope it works as a glue too. Yes please do a clear gesso review!!

Great video! I do like the finish sometimes with the Mod Podge but its more of a sealer. I use clear gesso 100% for primer for paints.

I think people are gonna get real sassy About this telling you how they been a artist for a million years and mod podge has always worked just fine for them. People praise that stuff. 😂😂 If you use it how instructions say that's way too much waiting. It feels very student grade product. It works yes you can make it work.. once using a good gesso it's such a huge difference. Gesso feels more professional grade .. You will definitely get way nicer results with clear gesso....not a grainy one.. Dina wakely is my favorite I think

The color stayed on the textured paper because the mod podge wasn't dry. Gesso works great with no wait and keeps a texture. Mod podge is a glue, takes time to dry unless you dry it well with a heat gun and drys slippery like acrylic. KZbinrs really shouldn't do a comparison on products they don't use regularly because they don't know what they're doing with the new product and they're bias to what they normally use. No matter what the medium, every KZbinr I've watched dislikes the product they don't know how to use because they don't know what they're doing. It's like saying a SUV isn't right because you're use to driving a minivan. For the record, I use mod podge, clear gesso, and mediums in my mixed media pieces so I love them all.

Thank you marta.i bought clear gesso from amazon as you taught me.i already had mod podge but found it gave me a headache.clear gesso is diferent and you use so much less.i also got white gesso.from amazon to do what you do..but white is not as thick as yours look lol

I agree Mod Podge feels like plastic. I like the Dina Wakely clear gesso from Ranger.

As a biscuit i only gave my children digestive.as oats in digestive is good for them.but in liddles they do a biscuit now like a hob nodge.similar to digestive with thim choc.coating on top.more oats inside thier not expencive in liddle and nicer than other makes.i dont work for liddle lol but im just wanting ppl not to waste money on brand name.i have found these to be healthier option and affordable when you have kkds.i know ppl giong to say sugar!!! Just have 2 common sence will prevail.im diabetic and i Ok with 2 or 3 haha

I prefer Matte medium over Mod podge. I use clear gesso in a different way not for collage

I used mod podge to finish pages in a prompt book but the pages still stuck together even though I let it dry for hours. So I stopped doing that and use clear packaging tape. I have yet to try the gesso’s, how do they dry? And do pages stick together?
