"Moderation" is simply not part of my Type A personality. I have two speeds: Stop and Fast Forward! That is the way I do everything including drinking alcohol. When I decided to stop drinking, I began watching KZbin videos about what alcohol does to the body, mind and spirit. It worked! Your video is very powerful! Thank you.

Each time i see people drinking or have the desire to drink, i ask myself why i must drink and the reasons. I can't find good reasons and so i don't drink. I drank in the past because i didn't not care about myself but now i decided i want to hate the alcohol for destroying my life. I have to hate it in order to get rid of it for good.

I have never heard anyone explain this so eloquently. Do to my Irish and Italian genetics my tolerance for alcohol has always been off the chart. After drinking for over a year I decided to stop. I am not having any withdrawals probably due to the fact that I am exercising more now. After 6 days without a drink I feel much better. Thank you for the no-nonsense common sense video and I just had to subscribe.

@@johnburnett3942 Thanks a lot , friends and family are dangerous because mostly everyone I know drinks alcohol. Society has fooled everyone to think that the only way to have fun and socialize is that you have to drink and that's a lie. Most of your friends are not your friends, once you're sober you'll realize the reason y'all hung out was because of the alcohol. The reason most people drink is because they're boring without the alcohol and they can't even hold a a decent conversation without it , alcohol is used as a lubricant to socialize in society. My new buzz is exercise and great health.

@StonyStevenson753 жыл бұрын
@@ThisNakedMind Yep - it's never good when you want more but can't have it. Drinking less alcohol just means earlier cravings. Even if I drank on alternate nights, I'd still be anxious for booze during my nights off, and would still be reliant on it if drinking were to remain part of my life. So of course a different outlook on alcohol is essential for escaping the psychological pitfalls (relieving boredom was my main one), and inherent dependency. Relearning the natural ability to enjoy oneself without alcohol is also vitally important, but you know all this! 2 weeks sober tonight, on the soda water :) Thanks Annie for all your hard work and insights, always a help. Best wishes, Steve (UK)

I was a heavy drinker and i learned moderation with the medication Antabuse, when you take Antabuse you cant drink otherwise you will feel very sick, so drinking is just not an option. I take one pill every 48 hours, at day 25 of every month i stop taking it and the last day of the month (the medicine is out of the body by then) i enjoy few drinks with friends. The good thing of Antabuse is that you know drinking is not an option so the body and mind will not crave alcohol. For me is easier to live with the idea of drinking once a month (or in a while, you decide your timeframes) rather than never to drink again, at the end of the day, i like drinking.

In short moderation is for people that really do not need to moderate. Free your self, stop moderating and get a life.

My alcohol abuse was 99.999% home & alone. Things were progressing downward fast. But I went from a 4-6 a day to, 3-6 a week by making a rule that I'd never bring alcohol home. I only drink when outside with other people. This so far has worked for me. But it's only been 2 months.

The question this video is not answering is why I am not developing a tolerance after years of drinking two glasses of wine most days. I also don't get a buzz or a lift from drinking. I just like the taste. Is my experience typical among moderate drinkers? Is the craving and the euphoria you describe typical of most drinkers or just problem drinkers? I am puzzled by the claims made in this video.

I agree with what is said. However humans have drinking alcohol for 4000 years most moderately. I lived in Italy for 5 years and it was clear that 95% were drinking moderately. The standard in Italy is 1 glass at lunch and 2 for dinner. I cannot believe that an entire nation should give up its culture- they have good health. Same for France and Spain. So I cannot understand that the whole of Souther Europe should stop drinking.

While I definitely think your work and ideas are worthwhile in a way, I think your statements about moderation are way too broad. Your idea, because of your experience...and people who believe in your book...is that nothing good comes of alcohol, so why stress out and moderate. But the reality is that many people don't stress about it. It's not part of their thought process to have more or less. You are quoted as saying in this video, and I'm paraphrasing "you have two but what good is that?" Well some people enjoy wine as a hobby and really enjoy the taste..for real. I worked as a wine broker as a break in my legal career over a decade ago. It was fine wines from across the world. I enjoyed the flavor profiles and trying new tastes as a hobby. Never did I think "hey, I need to drink the whole bottle." I almost died because of a fluke heart virus that attacked my heart in 2000. I worked out 6 days a week and was in perfect shape. Just a flu bug that got in my blood stream and attacked my heart muscle. Caused afib and a host of issues. I recovered completely except the afib once every year or so. Years later I almost died again when a doctor was performing ablation on me to fix he afib and pierced my heart. I started bleeding out and they had to cut me open. Yet every cardiologist I see now says follow the Mediterranean Diet with moderate red wine. I almost died twice of complete randomness despite my health. I've been told about everything in the world that causes cancer, heart disease, dementia and the reality is anything could kill me. I think your story is geared towards those who obsess with alcohol on a daily basis....alcoholism. You dealt with it...two bottles a night...so you think its bad for everyone. But many of us don't think about. We enjoy families and life, go to ball games with the kids and sometimes when a friend asks, we have a drink. Again, your work seems valid but I think you are painting an incredibly wide brush for a larger than you know population that is living a good life and who have hobbies and are fine.

Have you read the book? If not, you aren't fully prepared to evaluate the merits of this video.

right. but i think the point here is, she is not talking about those ppl that truly can enjoy one or two...here and there. why would they need to moderate? shes talking to people, who 'cant' stop at one or two, but 'think' they can moderate. but they continue to fail.

Chris Miller it sound as though you are defending your presious hobbie, and you make excuses that you are a connessoeur of wine. That's what alcohol does to you. It convinces you that you are ok, that you are in control. And it does this even when you are not, for all the same reasons she has stated in the video and more. It has convinced you and many others that it's good for your health. HA! It was likely an alcohol maker that started this rummer. Even the government says so... Yes, and they make alot of tax money on keeping the it on the market. There was a time they thought smoking wasn't bad for you also. I could go on and on. Perhaps you wouldn't have been so close to a near death experience if you were not consuming. Perhaps the virus would have been dealt with before getting to your hart? I know nothing about the facts of your ordeal, but it could be true for someone else. I wish you luck and good health.
