MORDHEIM seems to be growing rapidly in popularity again. I was invited to attend a Mordheim invitational tournament with players from all over the world! In this video, we pay tribute to one of the greatest games ever made.

I relate to this on a cellular level man. I still have PDF's of old 3rd edition codexes to look at for nostalgia. Early 2000s was a peak time for a lot of us getting into the hobby. From Mordheim, to the Eye of Terror campaign. So many good memories.

I got a copy of the rulebook and only the rulebook from a car boot sale (like a yard sale) years ago for fifty pence. I rummaged though the toys I had and gathered up what could be used as minis I kept cereal boxes, tissue boxes, toilet roll tubes got my felt tips and went to work. The result was a pretty respectable set of terrain for a thirteen year old with no real crafting supplies. Playing that with my sister really opened my eyes to the world of minaiture gaming amd it is something that has stayed with me ever since. I'm currently building a four by four foot Mordheim board for me and my kids. We play D&D with miniatures and terrain I've made but they struggle creating their own narrative and they need constant prompts to continue the adventure (kids these days have zero imagination), I get bored being the DM because of this and with Mordheim the story unfolds as the combat does, the "campaign" element of the game and the dice decided fates of each miniature after the rounds takes over the storytelling for me and I get to play too. The kids have chosen to be Skaven and chaos Dwarves which I already had sprues of knocking about. If they enjoy it I'll invest in some more for them to expand their respective warbands. I did however get myself an amazing set of miniatures off of etsy that with a little modification have made some really dishevelled looking Fireloques of Ferlangen, I honestly can't wait till it's ready. Mordheim my old mate, it's been too long.......

Many years ago, I asked a friend "Do you like miniatures'games ? If not, there's a game I want you to play with me." Time has passed, he got married, had kids and doesn't play any longer with his 40k miniatures. Last week we met with old friends and I asked him : do you still play wargames with your boy ? He said no... but If you want to play mordheim again, I'm in ! That's what mordheim is. Memories, such f...good memories of those times rolling dices and collecting those warpstones 😎

I see a huge trend in any skirmish level game right now. A new wave of gretchin and noblars are playing Cursed City, Silver Tower, Warcry. 3d printing has ushered in an affordable and less time consuming way to make creative boards and personalized warbands. I was expecting a video about how Mordheim is getting some attention again from the spotlight of fans and content creators, which would be great. But this caught me off-guard in a pleasant and touching way. 2003-2004 was also around the time I got my first contact with Warhammer, so I can relate to your initial thoughts. Mordheim does seem incredibly cherished and that transpires to anyone that has history with it, makes amazing gaming tables and warbands or anyone that flips through the book for the first time. A bunch of other games that currently spark my interest trace their lineage here, so I'm totally on board with this resurgence. Thanks for the video!

Never got into tabletop games in 90s ( I was to busy playing in a rock band) But now that im 52 I needed a hobby. Looking through games I checked many. Age of Sigmar caught my eye at first, and went down to game store to pick up some minis.. Left empty handed after seeing the price. Came home looked up my own 3d printing options, and found GW has a big no no on anything Warhammer related. Then last night I came apon a video about Mordheim. I remember my girlfriend at the times brother playing this. Did more digging and found a few channels on it.. Seems like a very interesting game, and since GW doesn't do anything with it, its mostly fan run.. I think this may be where I start. 3D printing some minis now, and working on some terrain in my newly renivated garage I turned into a workshop. Keep pumpin out videos man, I'll keep following.

@@tabletop.wizards See because Frostgrave is a newer game it does a lot of good things that Mordheim missed: their magic system is better, less swingy combat (kinda), alternating activations, a bit more encouraging movement system and I do like their advancement system. But it drops the ball with you only getting 2-3 heros and 2 of them can ONLY be wizards. Henchmen/goons cant grow so you can't really get attached which makes warbands feel samey. I like Frostgrave but the key issues keep me in Mordheim for now. But because the models and terrain translate almost 1-1 I can play either

@@tabletop.wizards I have and I do like it. After thinking about it think the defining difference between the two games is this: Mordheim is focused on growing a warband as a group where almost everyone can develop a story, Frostgrave is about 1 real hero (your wizard) and his goons are more like expendable background dudes. The rules around the wizard his apprentice and even the Captain are very good and build deep and diverse spell casters but the rest of the crew doesn't get much love at all. Both have a lot of merit but when push comes to shove I lean to Mordheim.

@@artic78 from a business standpoint, it wasn't set up for sales... It was created as a easy introduction in to Warhammer 5th edition... When they realized a lot of people enjoyed it more than 5th edition because of the setting and narrative gameplay, the knew they made an error... People were satisfied with their single $30 box of Mordheim minis and had no interest in buying hundreds of dollars worth of Warhammer 5th edition armies. They made the gateway drug too good 🤣

Mordheim was, and remains a tight set of rules, with an evocative setting, which as you say was brilliantly supported by the art in the rulebook. While the I Go/You Go initiative system has largely fallen out of favor with more modern rules sets, Mordheim has held up remarkably well through the years. It has a large number of devoted fans who are very active online, and who have produced a wealth of support material. My wife and our gamer friends still play Mordheim, and I have borrowed its quick and intense combat system to support some of my home-brewed RPG campaigns. For years, we have largely played Mordheim collaboratively (it works really well that way), rather than competitively (my wife is not a fan of competitive games). Mordheim works very well that way! Will GW revisit Mordheim as it did Necromunda? We can only hope. Certainly Necromunda’s second edition seems to be doing well for them. Perhaps when they start releasing new material for “the Old World”, which appears to be in the works. -Michael

@@tabletop.wizards well it works out really well. We get one game session in about every 5 to 6 weeks depending on people's schedules. There are 5 4x4 tables spread throughout the house. The two tables in the basement are just outside of entertainment rooms so video games and movies. The kids can be left semi unsupervised and cannot leave the rooms without passing both tables. The two upstairs are in the dinning room so they have a full view of the back patio, kitchen. The main floor bathroom and living room are just around the corner. The one on the 2nd floor is the adult only area or parent needs break from kids whilethe other parent is still hanging at an other table.. If we pull out the collapsible tables in the garage we can put another pair of 4x8 tables out there. We can easily get a 24 person tournament going if we are on 4x4s. Or 4x6s we can do 10 players at time Can you tell bachelor gamers live in this house lol. We just let out friends brings their rug rats and have have puppy baby sitters to take care of the kids lol.

We had a big tournament scene and I was playing this game for years. Cult of the Possessed, Averland and clan Eshin. The game has amazing story and art but the rules are strictly connected to WFB so the game flow is not great from today's standard. Turn sequence is very limited BUT the game is an icon even with those flaws. Frsotgrave did a very good job making a great game with great art.
