I couldn’t have agreed more. People need to understand any product purchased. It’s just an uneducated person that feels technical support is there to hand walk them thur the operation. Learn/ being tough the hands on approach. It’s priceless. I’ve learned more tinkering with stuff. My Castaly- 120 watts, was an overkill for a first time buying. I got it used and the previous owner is helping me to understand options.

Great video and I always tell people something really similar. I’m not a big customer service kind of person but I can concede that it is nice to have the option in case you really get stuck. Never had any major issues with my 80w Monport. Luckily there is so much knowledge available online through websites and forums especially. I’ve never ran into a problem I couldn’t research, ask some questions about, and find the answer. Keep up the good work!

I did see that in the tools tab. I created one but it wouldnt let me see the grid or allow me to alter it. It just gave me a preview and sent it straight to the laser. Im sure theres a way, idk.

The whole point of increasing your overall power is so you can also increase your speed, ultimately saving you time in cutting/engraving times…and giving you the opportunity to be more efficient with larger production runs. I’m not sure why you’d ever want to keep the speeds the same unless your thought us to save the laser tube’s life span, however, the higher watt tubes typically coming with a longer rated life span anyway…
@SpicerDesignsLLC
@SpicerDesignsLLC 3 ай бұрын
I understand that. But the higher speed on he 100 watt decreased the quality of the engraving. Thats why i said for engraving your not really gaining anything with the more powerful laser. For cutting material, it blows the 60 watt out of the water for efficiency.

Yeah, drop the focal depth for finer engraving. Short story is bigger is better for cutting, smaller is better for fine engraving as big tubes can't do low power. That's why dual tube machines exist, with say 150W for cutting & 40W for engraving.

Not sure if you have been told this but the point of a higher wattage is so you can run at a lower % of the total wattage of your tube. This prolongs the life of your tube. When comparing the power and speed of the laser are you comparing each one equally to their top power? As 60% of 100w and 60% of 60watts don't equal eachother. I have a 130w c02 and it cuts alot nicer. The alignment of the mirrors and adjusting of the focus in the head is paramount to cut quality as is wiping the mirrors and keeping them clean. Using air assist really improves your cut quality.
@SpicerDesignsLLC

I did mention in the video that the higher wattage machines are better suited for cutting. I do more engraving and the 60watt did a cleaner job.

@@SpicerDesignsLLC If you weren't aware, running external (dry and oil free) compressed air makes a massive difference to preventing charring that you're seeing there. Not sure how that needs to be connected for your specific machines, but it's a huge improvement over the small pumps machines like this come with, that are also not consistent. I run lower pressure when cutting paper etc. or engraving vs cutting thick materials. You can also engrave at higher speeds when power is a limiting factor, on a higher wattage machine.
@remital6834

Great comparison. I agree, the 60 would suffice. Is the 100 watt machine physically larger? I can't quite tell from the video.

You're looking at $2300 for the 60W vs $4300 for the 100W. That's 60% more in cost for a 66% increase in output power, so it's scaling somewhat linearly. I didn't check the other wattages to see if a 130W unit scales the same. But if you can engrave something at 125mm/s at 60% power (36W) on the 60W unit, that means you should be able to run 250mm/s at 72% power (72W) on the 100W unit, assuming that the engraving quality is nothing more than total power applied to any given location. That means you can cut the engraving time in half, which could be be fairly quickly amortized over the 60% price difference of the two units. Do you think the engraving quality for the samples at 125mm/s at whatever power is the same as the 250mm/s at twice the power?
@SpicerDesignsLLC
@SpicerDesignsLLC 3 ай бұрын
Your right, but more power and speed isnt the greatest quality for engraving. At least in my experience it hasnt been. I personally think the advantage of the 100w is with cutting. Very good point and break down JC. And remember, i am by no means an expert with these engravers. I have a lot to learn.

Isn't the idea behind more power to be able to increase the speed? You only mentioned power percentage comparisons, What if you used the same settings on both machines, but increased the speed on the 100W by 40-60%?

Getting rid of the 100 what will be a regret at a latter date, The reason why for this is that as you grow the 100 will keep pace with your growth, on the other hand with the growth factor the 60 will need replacing sooner.
