Jeez, what a bad game design. I see what they were trying to do but it barely teaches you how to play, and throws you into a long level with 1-hit deaths everywhere. That first stage is a tough gauntlet, with no real rewards. 😬 Those targets are called "Flipping Tatami's", and they are a pain in real life as well. They're bamboo targets stuck in mud, and when you hit them or shoot them with a bow, they absorb water and flip right back up. They can be heavy as hell too, 50-200lbs! 🥋🎯🦶🥊 😫 They got the authentic style right, why couldn't they get the "fun" & "progression" right? Thanks for showing it off, never tried that game before!

I'm stuck at about 3:56, where you just climb up the inside of a wall onto the top and over, from inside the structure. My interpretation of this world in 3D was just blown apart. You didn't react, but to me that stands out as odd game design. The visuals would usually indicate an inability to get past a solid connecting line like that, in most 2D platformers. That's fine, she's an acrobat of sorts, but it's not a climbing-around animation either, she seems to just phase through the roof. I want to see the actual gameplay now, because those popping up boards (the Sideshow Bob rakes come to mind) are ridiculous design as well, so I really want to know what it's training you to do.

maybe if this was a zx spectrum game in 1989 this would have been one of the great classics of retro gaming because zx spectrum fans had low standards .but by the time this game came out we had higher expectations despite the game boy being only slightly more powerful than the zx spectrum .

I can’t believe only the Game Boy got a Mulan game, despite the PlayStation getting a Hercules game! If I had my own game company at the time, I definitely would’ve picked up the license to make a Mulan game for the PlayStation, Saturn and Nintendo 64! Knowing the Saturn was no more when the movie came out here in the UK, the Saturn version of my game would’ve only been available in Japan and America, but still! I can assure you also I would’ve done a good job of the game so it wouldn’t be a stinker like you have here!

I never played this one as a kid but I had Hercules. Hercules was uniquely disappointing because I had the PC game (which I believe was mostly identical to the PS1 version) and it was pretty awesome. I long believed Hercules to be the worst Game Boy game ever. Watching this, I think we have a new winner.

When Mulan was hit by the arrow, I thought the armor had come apart and revealed the bands underneath it as shown in the movie. It was just bad graphics lol

Wooooow that sure is a game. Nevermind making the player feel like they're doing something cool or fun, no. You get an inconsequential training stage, and it immediately has tediously tricky sections. On top of there's not much of a distance difference between the regular and running jump, to indicate you're doing something wrong.

Oof, this game looks dreadful. There was a Small Soldiers game based on the movie that came out on Gameboy around the same time as this. That one's real high on my worst-of list. Really really bad gameplay and awful music. There was another one I remember playing called Play Action Football which I think is the single worst football game I've ever played and probably the worst Gameboy game I've ever played. You play football from a top-down angle and it's the *slowest* thing everrrrrr...
