Thank you for the review. I have a Champion 37 ton I purchased a little over a year ago and mine looks different. I purchased mine from HD and like you I am quite pleased. For my use it serves me fine. I do agree with not having a better table. But again - I am happy. My yellow tables are more heavy duty - but smaller - hmmm! Thanks for the review.

I've been running a Champion 23 ton splitter for 8 years. It still starts on the first or second pull every time. Yes, the log shelf is junk. I fabricated a table that attaches to the splitter made from 3/16th steel since I don't move it. Would be a better product if it wasn't built to split backwards. All in all though, for the price they're not too bad. Well over 200 cord through mine and only sharpened once.

I just bought the 27 ton Champion to split my dead oak trees up. Just about finished splitting the wood from 7 trees. Your right about using it vertical. It's not easy work. I'm 68 years old with a bad back so I will be using it in the vertical mode when needed. All and all it's a good splitter for my needs. 👍

Hey cliff good to here from you 🙂👍. This is a good machine but like anything else it could be better. However it is way better than a splitting maul. Cliff thank you very much for sharing and commenting.

I totally agree about the horizontal/vertical design. I don't like it, and ruled out getting a Champion because they don't make a horizontal push through design, except for the 7 and 9 Ton low profile ones. I have two Champion machines, so far I like both. Had an issue, and Champion customer service was outstanding. I thought about getting the Canadian version of Champions 9 ton horizontal version. It is too low, but I could modify it..... Commercial splitters are horizontal push through for a good reason. Home made, same reasons. You just need to add a simple log lifter. I can't afford a commercial wood splitter, just to split my wood. I split some big stuff with the "family" horizontal splitter, so I know a well designed 20-27 ton Champion should be able to split just about anything, much more efficiently than these current vertical designs, needing the blade to be on the ram. Looks like I will need to buy a used, home made, full beam, road ready, feed through, fast splitter. I found one with a 4 stage pump! $1000, 9HP engine. We shall see if it is in good shape or not. I am trying to obtain the cash. Damn shame IMO that Champion didn't just make big brothers(sisters) to their 7 and 9 ton horizontal low profile splitters, and make those height adjustable??? Basically just make them the same style that the better commercial splitters are. Something consumer grade copied from one of these: ruggedmade.com/22-ton-push-through-gas-log-splitter-196cc-honda-engine-w-log-lift-catcher.html and: www.eastonmadewoodsplitters.com/products.html?store-page=Eastonmade-ULTRA-Wood-Splitter-p297621141

I have a very similar (badge engineered). Splitter, it needed me to weld two side tables as there were none, I increased the foo end as it was far too small. There was a four cutter blade as an extra that split. Mine is a diesel and it is a very noisy engine with mechanical clatter making the most noise. The biggest gripe is that is very slow on return because the ram could be bigger diameter. It does not stop pushing at the most grizzly logs so not a problem it is just the speed it runs at.

I had a splitter that pushed the wood through the wedge. That was 25 years ago. The problem is that it pushes it off the splitter. I found myself picking the wood up multiple times if it was a large piece. I'll take one like this all day over the older style.

These older style splitters sure have their place. I had mentioned in the video that there are some people out there who really prefer this type of splitter, and I completely understand why everybody’s got their own style. Aside from that. I hope you enjoyed the content and I hope I earned your subscription, I have plenty of other videos for you to watch if you wish to do so you take care and have a great new year.

Hi dave,I have that brand same setup. The reason why it is that way is that when it is vertical it would be dangerous to have the wedge and push plate reversed. I enjoyed your video thanks.

You need to look on KZbin. There's a guy that designed a lift off the side of the champion. That lifts the log right up using the stroke of the hydraulix simple design but very ingenious.

@abrammatthew756 it’s a good machine for the most part. However it’s not bulletproof. I posted a video about a month ago. It’s titled (champion 37 ton splitter brakes)_. I’m not showing you this to give you buyers remorse. Rather, I’m showing you this video because I tell you why it failed and how to prevent it.

2 years old and barely run mine now but when i do every couple months 2-3 pulls same motor but 34 ton. Hundreds of hours on it. Can speak for longevity. The side tables suck on these. Mine are angled and have triangle cutouts. Little Heavier duty than the ones that came with yours. triangle cutouts have almost gotten my fingers taken off with logs that moved the wrong way on the triangles. Other than no other complaints here.

In the vertical position the wedge would be at the bottom and you couldn’t move the round on it. This is why the wedge is on the cylinder.

I guess what I was trying to say in the video is that the push through design firewood, splitters with the log lifts on the side is not a new concept anymore. So that being said, the big box stores should be able to provide us with a splitter with a log lift, and a push through design with a sorting tray at a significantly lower price for entry level and homeowner use. thank you very much for commenting. I’m happy you’re watching my channel.🙂👍

Seems this critter has been designed backwards with minimal material costs. Cheapest usually ends up the most expensive. Quality does not cost, it pays for years to come.

I do agree with you Joe,, but you know the saying everybody’s gotta start somewhere. It’s a lot more efficient than a splitting mall, but not as efficient as we’d like it to be we live in a world of compromise. All we can do is just keep on keeping on and maybe one day step it up a notch, thanks for commenting on the video. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope I’ve also earned your subscription. Take care Joe have a good weekend.

John you’d better get it right !! It’s not a 37ton log splitter as all these log splitters although badged as such, they all only put up 7-10 tons of splitting force !! The 8-16 GPM pumps used on these cannot put up any more pressure than 7-10 tons as they are continually circulating the oil. To achieve 37 tons you’d need a 100 GPM pump and a 45-50hp engine !!😎

Nice video. Did you remove the flimsy fenders, did the unit not come with fenders, or did dropped logs knock them off?

I usually have people contact me asking if o can remove blow downs from the fields. I will go over and take a look. If it’s good I’ll take it. If not, they may pay or barter for me to do something with it. Most times I’ll take it. Also so I do prefer a vertical splitter as long as I can work standing up.

Champion has made many different variations on their log catchers. The way the log catchers are mounted… they are pitched on an upward angle to have a higher likelihood of catching a log in a rolling scenario not to mention tractor supply had it all put together on display. I didn’t actually touch this machine as far as the assembly. Thank you very much for commenting on the video. Have a great weekend.🙂👍

Thanks for commenting. So I guess my first question to you would be how often do you use it? The second question would be how do store it? And for how long. When you do let it sit for weeks or months do leave fuel in it? If you do that may be your problem there. The ethanol in the gasoline is terrible for any motor all the O-rings and gaskets all get ruined by the ethanol. My solution over the years has been to turn off the fuel lever on the gas tank and let it run until the motor runs out of fuel and stalls. At that point you can either try to empty the fuel tank on it or just use a little bit of fuel additive to protect the fuel that is left in the fuel tank. When you use a fuel additive, do not shake or stir. It is not designed to mix with the gas like two-stroke oil. It’s designed to float on top and prevent condensation from Mixing with your fuel. thank you again for commenting. I hope you are enjoying my content and that it is worthy of your subscription. Thank you and have a good day. P.S. I am not a mechanic lol I’ve just had the same problems with other machines that I’ve had.
