TRUTH! My 6 yr old spayed black tabby, Lady Molly Hadfield-Renfield, Dutchess of Fuzzbutt, looks like a *MASSIVE* puddle of fur when she's sleeping soundly in full flat-cat mode. She is a bit overweight for the same reasons that Mr. Pirate is a bit of chub (but not a full Unit) - she's got IBS and is on prednisolone, and has put on some weight, as well as being a bit less active than she was in her kitteny days. But hell, I've been on prednisone for my asthma, and I remember the dreaded prednisone pounds, as well as how it just makes you want to sleep! She still passes the condition test at around a 7, and her tummy's nothing to worry about, so we're happy!

Jen F Seconding this request! You’ve talked about bits of it in other videos (giving fluids, special diets), but I’d love a video on CKD.
@shedevil503375 жыл бұрын
Jen F If your cat has been diagnosed with kidney failure, I recommend www.felinecrf.org My cat was stage 4 for 3 years. It was hard work: he needed fluid &/or meds every 4-6 hours, but his condition was exacerbated by him having a heart condition so normal CKD treatment (fluids a couple of times a week) was too severe. The vet hospital said it was a miracle he lasted so long. I just think he was too busy enjoying life & loving his mums to leave us. Tanya's website (the link I gave above) was invaluable. If your cat has just been diagnosed, please don't despair. It's not an instant death sentence. Many cats at stage 1-3 last years. We were incredibly lucky our boy lasted so long but we fought all the way. We're both at home 24/7 & that helped. Good luck! 😀
@chezmoi425 жыл бұрын
@@shedevil50337 Awww, that's devotion. I kept my little homemade bluepoint Iris alive for a bonus year with fluids every other day. She finally had to let go at 18 years, but that last year meant so much to us. Back in the sixties/seventies, kidney/UTI problems were much more prevalent. Thank goodness so much more is now known about treatment, and about diet to keep them healthy.

Such a huge thank you for this. I'm totally reassured about my cat's weight. He's a rescue cat, and likely a Norwegian Forest (read: BIG BOI), and at our two-week check in, he had gone from 5.3 kg to 6.5 kg! But he's now maintained that weight, a few months in, and I can feel his spine and ribs perfectly (checking was its own challenge, since he was a street cat before and doesn't love being touched). Without these guidelines, it was just so hard to tell on a naturally large and ultra-fluffy guy whether he was healthy or not. Thank you to you, Mr. Pirate, and Clawdia for your help!
