Just to repair the corrosion around the rear screen is about £3k to do the job right, plus a new rear screen. Parts and labour for the rear discs will be about £2k. Plus thousands more to sort out the rest of the bodywork. These are not cheap cars to run, I know because I own a mint Brooklands myself. It’s a very misleading video that only talks about parts cost but no mention of labour costs.

You are absolutely correct. Fix the brakes, the electric issues, starting and suspension first. Then clean everything thoroughly and then and only then decide on what you personally need to fix. Then enjoy the car until you don't.

Agree with others that the parts prices seem very reasonable and another issue worth pointing out is that the parts for a car this old are still available - not easy and expensive to do considering how many of the original suppliers probably no longer exist. Ok - so here’s the thing about old Bentley’s that everyone knows, but, I feel this needs to be continually revisited. People are amazed at how inexpensively you can acquire these machines….then, once they are the custodian…they complain and bash the car because there are several things wrong with it, they also _itch and moan because it’s expensive for the labor. I really don’t understand this….then, in turn, they make videos and the cars earn a bad reputation. If you have come across this video and are considering one of these…buy the best one you can…and be prepared to spend an equal amount of money for which you spent to buy the car, in repairs.

Oh dear, bodywork is kinda worse than mine. You,ve got holes where mine didnt. If the rear spring mountings are rusted then you can bet the spring seats at the front are shot too. The brakes should be fabulous. My car car surprised the MOT centre by how powerful the brakes were. I have since had the discs skimmed and the callipers serviced and galvanized so they are far better. You'll need to have the high pressure system checked and probably some Citroen spheres need replaced. However the cars are just brilliant to drive, when they go as intended. Good luck!

I would love to see you have the rust welded up, properly, no filler, as it’s actually got very little rust aside from the arches, other than the arches and by the rear glass on the right, it’s all basically invisible/not difficult to fix, rockers, and by the rear light near the bumper, they wouldn’t be too hard to fix/you wouldn’t need to be too precise as you don’t see them. Sand and treat some of the rust on the upper right door and such off, doesn’t look terminal to me. Then get the rust repaired areas and sanded/treated areas blended into the original paint, not a full respray as most of the paint is very nice and the double yellow pinstripes are great. GET IT WAXOILED, you need some sort of cavity rust treatment done on it like dinitrol all over, inside everything, once the corrosion is dealt with. There’s really only one major dent in the rear right door. Bumper inserts would easily make the car look a bit better. Obviously get at least the drivers seat done as well. It’s a quality car and deserves to be preserved. I don’t think much of the car is nice enough to warrant doing a “full restoration” or a full respray either (unless it’s cheaper to do so AND you can have the pinstripes perfectly duplicated) as if you want lots of it to be 9 or 10 out of 10 you’d be replacing a lot. Most of it is definitely nice enough to just keep it like that. To do a full respray and restoration on a car like this that’s got rust and has been in the rain and mad, you really have to take it completely apart, no sense doing a full respray to the outside of there could be mud and dust inside various panels, trapped, rusting it from the inside.

Nice car. But I am having trouble understanding why the rust problems could not have very been avoided on these expensive cars when built. There are protectve coatings that could have been applied to the interior panels of these cars that could have avoided these rust problems. I would recommend after any body work done, that you apply fisholine to the back of the work done, and also through the sills etc to avoid future rusting. I am surprised how cheap many of the replacement parts were quoted on this car, as many modern luxury car parts would be much more expensive than these. Overall it looks that you have done reasonable well with this car.

As a previous poster observed, the pricing is rather reasonable assuming these are genuine Bentley parts...but does this include labor costs? This is a fascinating series of videos, and my approach would be fix only things to get it to pass MOT. I would go for the best car I could afford rather than put signicant money into a "well-loved" car. Still, despite Keith's unimpressed reaction to the car, this is testament to the durability of the car. Nothing seemed horrifically bad or indicated impednding catastrophical disaster. I love this car, but wonder if these will have any significant value? But as I buy for joy and not investment, it probably wouldn't matter to me.
