I think your point that all regimes suck is important. The reality is there are no good guys when that much money is involved. Zwift is valued at 1bn and capitalism is just as gross as what goes on in the middle east. Just a different flavor of gross. I wonder what underpaid Chinese (potentially child) laborer is producing the new zwiftbikes? Like you said, there is no "high road" available. The best we can do is save money where we can and pick and choose our battles.

I switched like a week or two before Zwift announced their price hikes. For two reasons. One, it's free. Two, I don't have a laptop at the moment and MyWhoosh allows me to create workouts on my phone. The other points you discussed were on point as well. I think the workouts by Kevin Poulton are very well designed. I also like the fact they have a totally flat map and endurance climb map. Great for Z2 or long threshold efforts respectively. The only thing I miss is seeing large groups of people fly by or busier maps. But considering I don't race or participate in group rides it's more of a vibe thing for me anyways. Only reason I haven't cancelled Zwift yet is I want to do their new climb coming out next month. After that Im cancelling. Maaaaybe pick it up for a few months in winter. Have everything I need with this app.

Nice timing on this vid my friend. Plenty of us considering our sanity as we line up to pay $30 for Zwift's video game. Like you say, the barrier to entry for indoor training is the trainer itself which already sets us back a grand. Why am I paying so much on top of that?! To their credit, the marketers at Zwift have created a sticky product and leaving all those levels and people behind will be hard at first. I've set it up, just need to jump across now. Appreciate you covering the tough stuff in this video 💪

Figured if I’m struggling with the morality of MyWhoosh it’s probably a good angle. Looks I was right.

Moved over to mywhoosh last week as the zwift price increase just felt like a 100% money grab. If they had gradually increased the price over time and had actually been providing something worthwhile in return then fair enough but a few new routes and then, wham, a 50% price increase just feels like a lazy way to line their pockets. I mean how hard can it be for the actual zwift developers to create a new route? Lots of pc and console games have free user created mods including whole new maps and visual upgrades etc. Maybe mywhoosh should allow user created mods too. I think that might be a game changer!
@burgess_and_his_bike6 ай бұрын
Yep, I agree. With Zwift I pay +200 AUD every year for a game. No game is like that. If they can’t make a successful business model selling a game for $200 a year there is an issue with their business that they need to fix. Stop sponsoring the Tour de France and instead focus on this.

New courses including California which was pretty good (although I only touched the surface of it) and another UAE themed one plus some new graphics options and other stuff. Surprised at the speed new roads are being rolled out but maybe that's easier than bug fixing. Still nothing the size of Zwift's Watopia but then that took ages to get where it is today. I did think twice about downloading the app when I realised it was a UAE company,I have yet to use it though.You are correct,we should be aware of sportswashing,it seems to be getting bigger and bigger. One example is the English Premier League allowing the Saudi Regime to purchase Newcastle United FC. There were some rumblings in Parliament about this,but the UK government supplies the Saudi regime with weapons and the use of RAF engineers to maintain their airforce whilst the Saudis bomb Yemen. Our government then sends aid to Yemen. Go figure! My thoughts are there will be many decent people working at MyWoosh in order to earn a living. The world is a crazy place with many contradictions and different regimes working together to benefit themselves,sometimes justified,sometimes not. I personally like paying a sub fee for this sort of game, it usually means a higher quality game. The problem with zwift is the money seems to not go back into the game but into trying to make hardware and sponsoring things instead of more functionality for clubs meetups and the social side which is its strength. Or a training plan/calender that lets you use zwift racing with structured workouts.
@burgess_and_his_bike6 ай бұрын
Yeah I agree with you mate, they’re focused on making the game a titan instead of focusing on actually building the game. I feel Zwift have gotten lazy of late and take their subscribers for granted, which is the main reason for this series. Competition would force Zwift to come to the table.

Also at that age (early 50s) and sufficiently jaded and cynical where I yell at liars and arseholes on the TV as if they can hear me 😂 Can't blame anyone for being drawn to a freebie though and there's a growing racing community in the Virtual Cycling Users group on Facebook. Might be worth a quick note somewhere that there's a MyWoosh Go version as well for older/lower spec hardware. The full fat version can be a rough experience on older hardware from what I've read and heard due to the demanding graphics. The Go version was released recently to broaden the potential user base. And IndieVelo is basically one guy and some friendly assistants. George Gilbert. Worth checking out his background as it, as well as community feedback at each iteration, is why IV is what it is. Agree with the other comment that this channel is an undiscovered gem. Reminds me of the early Francis Cade, but less random 👍

I believe the secret to IV virtual gearing is to pick a relatively easy gear combo with a good chainline as your base. Then use whatever trigger (I think keyboard or any mapped device like USB gaming controller can be used) to change up to harder virtual gears from there. This is best because it's easy to add resistance via the trainer, but difficult to reduce it beyond a certain point (virtually change down to easier gears) because the trainer can't go into negative resistance. Not without a motor to drive your cassette at least.

I’ve heard similar complaints about the MyWhoosh logos every 5 metres. Doesn’t really bother me but I understand. I 100% agree Zwift is better and I’m even thinking of doing a “I went back to Zwift for a week. What had o missed most?” Style video. What do you reckon?

I have a workout to do I have power hr cd intervals shema and doing it safely at home or when Bad weather that's it ! Yeah and its fu*** free !!!!

it's free but there's too many bots and too many races so there's nobody most of the time. I would prefer a race everyhour to get more people. Now I don't know if it's something about their servers. Same with categories if there is. I used to be on wahoorgt before they cancel it and i thought mywhoosh would be a mx between that and zwift but so far that the lack of category. visibly you upgrade only by doing miles/km but not thanks to the racing rank. The main problem is really races with only one , two or no opponent at all, not even knowing their level and seeing them dropping you from the start.
@burgess_and_his_bike6 ай бұрын
Yeah you’re supposed to get categorised but I agree. The racing is poor. Like I said, IndieVelo for racing. I find the bots lifelike and can’t tell which ones are and aren’t bots.

It’s been doing that to my videos lately. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but it seems to hate me.

Seems to be the anti-spam/anti-whateverspeech algorithm going rogue. Has been happening to several channels I follow and is fairly random. Sometimes comments appear days later and sometimes not at all.

Zwift racing is the nuts and i am happy to pay to do TTTs, ZRL and other races. Having said that if MyWhoosh get the numbers to make racing a thing I may move. You can guarantee that once they have a decent amount of people using it vs Zwift, it will all of a sudden not be free.
@sbrusgaard6 ай бұрын
Well, they have made several public statements, that it WILL be free forever. So unless they backtrack on that, you may be wrong. 😉

Consider looking at IndieVelo (this weeks video) as well, as racing on that looks crazy

For your introduction, your mind is washed about the countries in the region (GCC to be specific) If you want to know about human right and which countries actually care about people, go and check what every country did during covid, then you know the truth.
@burgess_and_his_bike6 ай бұрын
Bro you’ve got to be a bit more specific here. I get the feeling you think Covid is a conspiracy though, so I think we’d disagree seeing as I’ve had it three times.

You need at least a low level gaming rig to run this piece of crap, it's far too heavy for most peoples laptops. Please take the time to check system specifications before you bother to install it.
@burgess_and_his_bike5 ай бұрын
The standard MyWhoosh app (ex MyWhoosh Go) is what you’d be looking for then. It runs a lighter version.

I wouldn't call someting free where you Can do your workout's a crap !
@marccale98906 ай бұрын
The MyWhoosh people aren't doing this as a charity. As soon as they get numbers on their platform, they will probably be charging more than Zwift. The Zwift price hike sucks, but I love the racing there...
@sbrusgaard6 ай бұрын
Unless they backtrack on their recent public statements, MW will stay free forever.
@burgess_and_his_bike6 ай бұрын
Yeah look it’s a great app. I think Cade Media summed it up well when they said if the hike came with some big improvement or new content, but it’s just paying 1/3 more for the same game.

This is marketing budget for the UAE government not a revenue generating stream. The UAE has an extremely big marketing budget and keeping mywhoosh running is a financial blip when compared to their other sports washing ventures.

Perhaps. MyWhoosh has very much made it part of their business model that it is free and they will seek revenue streams elsewhere so we shall see.

People are mostly just virtue signaling all the time. Like a woman I know that went on the climate strike 🪧 protest and then the next weekend she flew London to go shopping with her girlfriends 👯♀️. That’s when I stopped crusading and just said F it. I’m not dying on that hill. Soccer is also full of clubs with sponsors with dubious sponsorships, other sports too. People are selfish and most are not willing to suffer any discomfort for doing something better for society or the planet 🌎. I also knew this woman who was very concerned about the environment, but then drove to the gym to run 🏃 on a treadmill! I said: you live in a very safe neighborhood, why don’t you just go running outside? No answer. I got a lot of other examples too like nobody cared about the Olympics that’s now mainly being hold in totalitarian regimes. Still everyone is watching it. So I’m now on MyWhoosh too.
@burgess_and_his_bike6 ай бұрын
I think it’s important to have your morals, but setting boundaries that you can stick to is important, as well as not making senseless protests. What annoys me is people that share instagram stories about issues and then don’t do anything about it. I get what you mean r.e. Sport. In Australia a lot of our clubs are sponsored by gambling companies, which I disagree with, but I still watch the sport. I think with MyWhoosh so long as you’re aware and don’t fall into the trap of thinking these guys are philanthropists you are getting something for free. I think you win then.
