A sudden decision by Gov. Kathy Hochul put the brakes on congestion pricing. Is the program dead or just on hold? Watch this episode of "The Point with Marcia Kramer."

It is not pleasant for me or my neighbors in Queens to pay an extra $300 a month in taxes for a service from which we do not benefit.
@emperorteaАй бұрын
thats $3600 per year ontop of all the tax, fees, tolls, mandatory services we already pay for. and this is not going to be the end of it too. Because in the future they are going to raise the price of the tolls.

If congestion pricing does happen, what's going to stop them from doing congestion pricing to other areas in NYC, or other cities in NY state?
@BernellJonesIIАй бұрын
We all know it’s a money thing. If MTA really wanted less congestion, they would take actual effective actions. There would still be a lot of traffic if the tolls were implemented. They’re basically saying “if you pay $15, you’re free to pollute the area”

Mta is run like if they have access to blank checks. It's amazing how fast they were able to put up the toll scanners . Once these tolls go up that taste of free money will be Insatiable. The cross bronx expressway has countless truck going through the bronx contaminating the bronx air....why not put one there first. That would make the community healthier. If thats why they are actually doing it. But it's not about health or traffic it's about pulling money to fund a failed system. Nyc has millions of people that are taxed heavy. Those tax money get spread out through out the whole new york state. They money should only fund NYC. New York State government needs to prioritize the needs and reorganization of the mta with the current taxed money being skimmed from the nyc citizens. Not add additional Tolls and taxes claiming that its the only way to fix the mtas black hole accounting.

If the tax is supposed to decrease congestion by encouraging people to stay home then how will it increase revenue? It's either going to decrease congestion or generate revenue but not both

This has nothing to do with reducing congestion, this was just legal way robbing working people legally everyday. The streets had been clogged by Bike lanes and the Bus Lanes because Diblasio and Bloomberg had put that around the city where out 6 usable lanes it is reduece to 2 because of bus lane and bike lane. To say that a congestion wont happen is pretty stupid, this toll is about taxing working people because Subway ridership is up however 45% of the people pay fares????? This Governor is completely out of touch with the people.

The logical thing is if, as this lady says, ninety percent of the people who travel to Manhattan to work use public transportation, then those ninety percent are the ones who should pay for that tax to improve a service that suits them and not ten percent. remaining percent that do not use the train service.
@jamesofalo6247Ай бұрын
Wrestler Congestion is not critical to fund the MTA. The NYU Marron Institute has determined the MTA spends more then any country globally on transit repair and new construction. If the MTA needs money they need to find it in their own budget. Audit the MTA NOW.

In New York City, the implementation of congestion pricing has been a topic of debate. While it was set to begin in June 2024, the plan has been postponed indefinitely3. This decision came amidst concerns over the economic impact the tolling program might have on everyday New Yorkers4. It appears that more than 60 percent of New York City’s inhabitants opposed congestion pricing based on polls, reflecting public discontent with the idea5. The reliance on referendums or public opinion polls is a common practice in many cities to gauge support for congestion pricing. This democratic approach ensures that the views of the residents are considered in the decision-making process, especially for policies that directly affect their daily lives and expenses. However, the success of such initiatives can vary greatly depending on the local context, public awareness, and the perceived benefits versus the costs of the program.

Why should people who don't use the public transportation system pay for something they don't use? If they need money to mend the train system, let its users or the city's business owners pay for it.

Motorists should not be freeloading. We already subsidize car ownership to the tune of billions every year - not including oil wars. Congestion pricing is a way to undo some of this unfairness and require motorists to contribute back to the cost of transportation. Congestion pricing needs to move forward.
@Atrail_Mckinley4786Ай бұрын
No it doesn't. It would've increased pollution in the outer boroughs as noted by the MTA's own assessment. Costs for small businesses would've increased. This is not about reducing traffic. It was a money grab.
