Is OMEGA Worth The Hype?!

Omega is a brand that in terms of function and innovation out preforms brands like Rolex. Rolex are solid watches but the main allure is that you can't buy one at retail whenever you want, they don't have a tourbillion or perpetual calendar. People are seeing the value in Omega not in terms of storing in a safe and hoping it's worth 10x in a few years but rather an amazing quality watch with heritage that for the most part you can purchase from an AD as long as you have the money.

Got the 57 in green recently and love it, stunning watch in person. I think your right about covid on the whole. It certainly applies to me anyway. Ive always liked and owned a watch. But only in the last few years have I started becoming a collector and amassed a currently 9 piece collection in only a few years. Covid meant no holidays, no going out, no cinema trips etc for a long time. As such many of us suddenly had a lot of surplus expendable income. Watches, outdoor camping gear and knives is where I spent mine 😅

Hi, Harrison your absolutely spot on mate my omega smp was purchased during covid and since then have went on to purchase a tudor, breitling and a doxa since. Each of the other brands that I've mentioned have small little flaws that niggle away at me which is probably just me being picky. But i have to admit that the omega is absolutely faultless i can't find one single thing that irritates me. Oh and I'll never own a rolex!!!! Great vid.... Keep it up mate 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

The hype isn't a patch on Rolex. Having acquired a Rolex a few weeks ago I was almost non plussed when I got it. There's no real wow factor. I kept it on the basis that I bought it at retail and wanted to scratch the itch. But can well see myself selling it in 12 months and being done with Rolex. Omega isn't hyped compared to Rolex.

Yep. I had never really seen a Rolex in person until one of my coworkers bought one. It was a black submariner. When I saw him wearing the watch, I asked him if I could take a look. I was deeply disappointed when I held it in my hand. It was a decent watch. But I couldn't help but be disappointed in the finishing. Compared to my Grand Seikos, it felt pretty cheap. There was nothing special about the way the case was finished. The dial felt basic compared to what GS is doing. I'll stick to Seiko.

Covid affected supply as well as demand, so wait times are basically due to unforseen circumstances. I don't know about other folks, but I wouldn't want quality to be compromised by a rush to satisfy the increased demand after production started again after lockdown. I don't think that Omega watches of any model are over hyped. The Speedmaster 57 models are amazing. 😊

It’s nonsensical to think any watch company purposely holds back products to increase demand. Omega doesn’t do it, Rolex doesn’t do it. Sony doesn’t do it with the PS5. No one does it because it’s stupid - these companies don’t invest millions of dollars into multiple years of development of a new product only to not sell it.

What is funny is I've always seen the new Speedy '57s in my ADs at least as early as July last year. They don't always have every colourway at the same time, but there are always 1-3 in stock. I did not know what people were talking about on the delays of these. In fact, I seriously considered getting one for my big milestone birthday this year. It was definitely top 3, but I ended up going with the Explorer II black dial (~5 month wait, no history with the AD). On the contrary, the new colorful Aqua Terras announced a year ago are apparently just starting to appear in ADs and my AD was anxiously still awaiting them a month ago (and frustrated at the delay). I will be going by soon, so I hope they have some to check out. If anybody is at all interested in the Speedy '57, I highly recommend checking one out in the flesh. They are absolutely brilliant.

Great content. I was offered seaweed from AD on bracelet other week. Reluctantly refused not because I didn't love it. Price wise was top heavy and concerned there prices moving in wrong direction. 😢 The rubber version is best, in my opinion 😊

I tried one on too, and I agree with you that the rubber is better, but you should always buy on bracelet as it is far cheaper to buy the rubber band later than it is to buy the bracelet as after sale. I do like the green though!

I like these watches but for the bezel which I find hard to read. I know that most of us never use the tachymetre function, but nonetheless, I'd like to be able to see it if I glance at it. The engraving on the stainless steel bezel is hard to see in any light.

I personally think that photos should display the colour more accurately as I found myself disappointed as I had built a picture in my head and the reality didn't match it.

Most watches are disappointing when you see them in person. I recently went to a watch dealer, and was walking around the store looking at all the watches. I saw very few that I liked. The only ones that stood out to me were the Grand Seikos because of their beautiful dials

@@simonwright6882 Yeah, I'm a big Seiko fan. They probably provide the best value for buck. I prefer to wear watches that aren't common, but still look nice. And Seiko gives me that. I love it when I run across a Rolex guy, and they see me with my Marine Master. You can tell they are impressed and probably regretting spending so much money on a submariner

57 is a GREAT watch, but I backed out after forming the view that it is 2k too expensive. It's got the Ingenieur problem - cracker of a watch but just bit too punchy price-wise.

Hi 👋 You are very right , OMEGA is still in difficulty to provide this new watches and especially the models with steel or gold bracelets cause of under contractors of them who have been deeply impacted by the COVID !! There is also a real problem for the AQUA TERRA « SHADES» cause of the bracelets are missing ! So at final this is good for the brand to have a little hype cause they worth. Kind regards

It’s all just a simple demand > supply situation for the hot models… most of you just overthink things. No factory will just focus on ONE model to flood and cover the demand with oversupply, it will just create a whole new supply chain issue and problems for other models.

I walked past an AD two weeks ago, saw a green Seamaster in the window, went in and walked out with it. It’s listed but there are model’s available, especially in smaller ADs not in city centres.

Omega is pretty uninteresting to me. I only kept my Speedy Pro about a year before I traded it for something better. There were a couple of Omega models that I liked but they were too short lived in the catalogue and far too expensive for what they were for me to purchase them immediately at full MSRP. There are no current Omega models on my want list.

Omega is a great brand, but for me I would only buy them at a good discount or basically grey market. The only watches that cant get a discount is obviously the hyped up Snoopy edition watches and a few discontinued watches like my previous first Omega in Space numbered edition which I also got it in store at a good discount and now regrettably sold it off for a profit kinda wish I kept it as it was genuinely a lovely watch perfect 38/39mm size 😢😂 ... but hey I traded it for a YM Rhodium slate dial white walker ❤ so still kinda win in my opinion 😂😂😂 ...so back to the question the so called hyped watches like the seaweed started off none available and would need to register for interest but after a couple weeks will get the call super easy not like Rolex ...I would say Omega is kinda like Tudor atm first new watch release will take a little while but eventually will be in stock plenty to go around just shame you cant get discount at the Omega boutiques so just get it from the grey market or obviously Chisholm hunter 😉...if you like to wait little longer 😂
