I've always been the kind of person to where whenever I watch an anime that has a dub, I almost instantly go to that over the sub, mainly so I can focus on whats going on on the screen rather then having ti read text and multitask, but for the first time I'm caught in a cross road where I actually like the sub more then the dub, at least for the newer VAs that replaced the OG ones from the early seasons

Even IF you say that the Sub has better voices, you can't deny that the dub has the better script. The lines are a lot funnier and wittier, but they do well on the emotional scenes, too. For instance, after being rescued, when Whitebeard asked Ace if he was happy to have him as a father figure, sub Ace simply said "of course I am." In the dub, however, Ace calls him dad.

Maybe you are not so fluent in Japanese culture and some of the jokes inserted in the sub does not translate well in dub, personally I prefer the script from sub, I find the dub shortens some sentences due to talking speed being a tat slower than Japanese, the English dub uses simplier words than the translated sub from Japanese version. I find the sub funnier overall, I watched both sub and dub btw, dub for when doing other stuff, sub I can speed read so it was no issue looking at the action most of the time feeling the character's expression after a quick glance at the sub.

I only recently finished watching One Piece up through the Wano Arc for the first time. I watched dubbed as I tended to watch while cooking or cleaning. When I got to the current last dubbed episode I tried watching it subbed for a couple of episodes, but I had a tough time. Most of the Japanese voices I was ok with because I feel like the English and Japanese tend to give off the same energy at least, but I had a really tough time with the Japanese Franky. It just doesn't feel quite as SUPER as the English one.

I watch all anime dubbed if there is a dub available. I have watched One Piece dubbed until there were no more dubbed episodes and then I watched subbed. And yes we get to hear the Japanese voice actors, but it doesn’t feel the same satisfaction and connection I had with the dub. Now I watch One Piece weekly since I am caught up but when they release dubbed episodes of the latest arc, I’m going back and watching those episodes dubbed. No exceptions

Sub, I think. The dub exceeds the sub sometimes though. In general, imo, one thing that Japanese voice actors excel in is conveying emotion or ideas through tone of voice. For example, comedic scenes in the sub I think are funnier from how stupid, dumbfounded, frustrated/annoyed, etc that the Japanese va's can portray simply through how they are saying something even if i don't understand what's being said. Whereas sometimes when watching the dub, i think some of these things are portrayed by what words are said or simple shouting instead of also masterful inflection of voice. I think that really can affect dialogue at times. That being said, the dub has made some VERY cool distinctive or fitting voices for characters that far exceeded my expectations or exceeded even the sub imo.

I enjoy being able to watch the show without having to focus on reading the subtitles the whole time. But I've actually been watching OP in dub, with subs at the same time. This means that anything I don't hear in the dub, I can still pick up. The dub and the sub can be fairly different though. I genuinely prefer the dubs, because they've been put together by native speakers of the language. The humour in the dubs is better imo, and often there are terrible sub translations.. for example "Captain Kuro, an unknown pirate notorious for his cunning methods"

The problem with the subs is that every platform has a different person writing them, so there's not a singular experience you can have, because the subtitles could be saying literally anything. For all I know, there's someone out there watching a sub where the only reason Robin didn't want to be rescued was because CP9 promised her an invitation to their pizza party if she stayed.

I don’t have a favorite but I will say despite Some voice is being grading on my ears. I watch one piece and Dub more often than sub. Only because I often I don’t have the time or patience to read the bottom of the screen. Sometimes I will watch it and subs if I’m feeling determined enough, but more often than not I watch all of my anime that have a dub and dub. I will say that the subtitles version does sound better but even if it sucks I will Watch dub for the convenience of it.

Funimation owns the rights to the One Piece anime in North America for streaming and home video. Unfortunately I'm not sure if these rights differ in other countries. If so, there are a lot of VPNs you could try to make your streaming services act like they're in other countries.

I think sub is the clear winner, because a lot of the cringe you would hear in the language you know and understand, you don't pick up on in a foreign language. Tons of things that sound cool in japanese just make my skin curl in english - even if perfectly translated. Also the japanese voice actors pull off their voices a lot more natural. Especially luffys english voice sounds so incredibly forced. He only has this one screechy mode... take the scene when kuma shoots at luffy after the time skip when luffy effortlessly dodges it: in japanese he has a cool collected reply, in english it's again his screechy voice. Also a lot of word puns are just completely lost. When bon clay says "oh come my way" he is making a double entendre, because "okama" means drag queen.

I've heard lots of good performances in the dub, but Luffy's VA hurts my heart so much. The interaction between Luffy and Yamato in the Wano arch is why I say the Dub is better. They just add the tiniest bit of extra dialogue that fits perfectly with the character that makes them feel more real. Sub can understandably be considered better in the regards to how much more closely to follows the Manga, but there is downsides to that.

I started with sub, so that’s why I’m used to it. With the whole reading the subtitles and watching thing doesn’t really bother me. I can fully watch what’s happening and read at the same time. For those who watch dub and enjoy it, good for you, but it’s not my thing. Maybe when I get caught up I’ll give the dub version more of a chance. But what I think turns me off from the dub is mainly the voices. Luffy sounds more like a version of Veronica Taylor ash, which works for ash, but not Luffys wacky and fun personality. Zoros good. Sanji I swear sounds just like Brock from Pokemon. Usopps voice just doesn’t fit for me. Nami and Robin are ok. Brook is my favorite. Franky is alright but, I like sub franky better. Jimbei is solid. That’s my take.

To be fair, sub is another level. One piece humor and expressions can never be translated right because Oda really knows how to write. Some English classic literatures sound so not right in Japansese. On top of that, when it comes to shounen anime, Japanese Anime studio have far more budget. Literally, if you just look at the live performance of Japanese VA and english VA, you get like super talents aged like top grade wine after 30+ years of experience for Japanese, but you get just regular level dub of 'another country' for English. English dub is not better than Italian Chinese French etc. My country dub is better than English. But even that is reduced ro weeb cringe compared to Japanese original. It's like Sushi, most people prefere the sushi changed to their own country flavor preferrence and actually can't appreciate real Japanede Sushi. But once you learn the new flavors and open up the mind, you can tell 90% of sushi outside Japan is just bad joke.

I can’t stand the English voices because they are too much like stereotypical dubs; they aren’t unique. I hear, for an example, Luffy talking and I hear a character from Sonic X (I think Chris?) And maybe even a character from Ben 10 (yes I watched these as a kid.) The voices seem to alter the vibes/energy coming from the characters too, Nami comes off as a feminine in the sub but sounds like a tomboy or lesbian in the dub. Luffy sounds like an actual mischievous, silly kid (even monkey at times lol) in the sub but sounds like an annoying attention seeking brat in the dub (again, not the character, just the voice.) A lot of the big evil villains have deep voices in the sub that gets castrated in the dub (e.g. Erenu, the arc I’m currently watching.)

​​@@KAIgaming666 yes they dub and localize all sorts of popular American cartoons in Japan you can even look it up. Also there's only a distinction between anime and cartoons only here in the West. In Japan they literally call everything that's animated, including foreign cartoons, as anime because that's how it's all said in Japanese. And both cartoons and anime can be geared for any age. There's anime made for children and some for adults just like there's children's cartoons and adult cartoons. Westerners are the only ones who make a fuss about the differences in media
