Informative and balanced. Many thanks. I am always surprised you don't have many more subscribers.

I have no faith in cloud services. Every computer can be hacked. I do my backups at home, thanks to Leo's amazing videos, and then put the drives in a safe place. No hacker on the planet can access them.

I don't really use the cloud as backups only for a few documents that I use to make uploading to websites quicker. My backup method internal non system HDD, flash drives, and a external drive. Saving pictures, documents to the cloud should be the last way to store backups.

@@CryingCroc. I back up properly so that means some of my devices are in another location not just in my home 👍

thing with online backup is they can see your data etc. bc it's on their own servers you rent out. for basic privacy reasons nope. bc during auditing and standards to make sure it's legit but if you have secret docs, etc for a company which they would like to know uh. Read about this in past. rather use a nas and a friends home in a drive i own etc.

I use online backup in addition to external hard drive. For online I encrypt sensitive files before upload. I also upload simultaneously to a full end to end encrypted drive, meaning the cloud provider doesn’t have the keys, so would be useless to a hacker or law enforcement.

I’ve been backing up to physical media for 30+ years. The medium has changed over time: QIC-80 tape cartridges, Fujitsu magneto-optical disks (really!), CDs, DVDs, external HDDs, currently external SSDs. I keep 2 SSDs in my safe deposit box. Once a week I image my internal drive to one of the SSDs. The SSD goes right back into the safe deposit box once I’ve made the backup. The following week I image to the other SSD. I’m well known at my bank for asking to access my safe deposit box often. ~20 years ago I requested access to the box. The very attractive female teller, who had let me into the box many times before, said, “I know what you want to do.” I thought, but didn’t say, “Dear lady, if you really knew what I want to do, I’d get the back of your hand.” Now that I have a Mac, I also use a Time Machine drive.

Would Telegram be a secure option for backup purposes? I've heard is encrypted like Mega or Filen cloud storage.

Telegram is a messaging platform, not cloud storage.

It's a good idea but it can't be your only backup method.

What's wrong with just making a CLONE of your System Drive to a Like SSD in an Enclosure Same foe other Drives/SSD's. This Eliminats having to Download all your Operating system & Programs that don't get Backed up. If your System Drive gets Corrupted Simply Replace it with the CLONE SSD and reformat Corrupted then ReClone to it.

True but clones take a lot longer to do than a system backup and are easier to get corrupted. You can also store multiple system backups on the space it takes one clone. Restoring a system backup is easy and allows you to keep multiple copies in different places. Go to the Macrium forums and you'll find many of their gurus dont recommend using clones as your primary backup.
