Aamna I have lived this stigma. I am very fair, my husband is dark with very sharp features. My older daughter was very dark when she was born. I heard the comments constantly: Tumhari Beti shayad hospital walon nay badal di hai. Kya yeh aapki sagi beti hai. But I had the last laugh. Today she she is stunning confident lady, PhD in molecular biology has two beautiful children, and a successful Virologist.

With the recent horrific incident that unfolded with the beheading of a woman at the hands of a man, I think dramas like Ishq Hai are extremely problematic and dangerous. The way the guy in the drama forces the girl to marry him, I can only imagine a similar scenario with the victim and the killer. I seriously think these types of dramas and scenes should be boycotted...another example is of Fitoor with the way Hamza is spiraling out of control, and girls all gushing over these men...and when it happens in real life, people question why no one intervened...society, media are all enablers and just as complicit...

@@ixa.m9915 that is why I am glad Amna Mufti did not surrender to the love angle demands of channels like ARY ! She kept the essence of the cause alive ! Sumbal and Sawera are shown as women who have seen the black and filthy side of the world ! You can see that they don't trust men or people in general but they are strong enough to find an escape and take help when necessary! There has been no mention of love angle in the story till the end ! It is all about their struggles in the dark dungeons that all characters were thrown in and how they come out of it ! All aspects are hard hitting ! And Sumbal and Sawera have had this conversation many times in the drama that they know women like them are seen as non existent for relationship ! They know this! It won't come as a shocker to them ! They know it ! Sawera has this hard hitting wisdom in her conversations ! They know the ugly side of the world ! Since they found a shelter in Jimmy and TM's presence , they are slowly coming back to life ! While Sawera already started working in shelter home ! Sumbal also mentions that she wants to do something and be vocal about rights ! And from the promo of next and last episode (😭) we see her juggling with papers or documents , which means she will start working ! These are strong women who didn't let the dark side consume them completely, but they went through the severity , found a ray of hope and followed it to set themselves free and take responsibility of their lives . And they were eventually supported by a man like Jimmy ( Wahaj) , who for me is the true depiction of a Hero ! Given how inspiring his own journey has been and how empathetic and responsible he is ! Or Zulfi who goes through his own traumas and successfully creates a shady vibe to his character , only to come out as scarred yet adamant on a mission to rescue ! In such deep and nuanced show , written so well by Amna Mufti , for sure tropes like saazish , ishq mashooqi wouldn't fit at all ! And Dil Na Umeed Toh Nahi stands true to its essence till the end ! A piece of art by Kashif Nisar , penned hard hittingly by Amna Mufti and carried forward by true artists who worked for a cause !

Ishq hai continues to romanticise abduction and forced nikah. There was a drama( Dar Khuda se), last year, where a girl in a negative role was shown be flirtatious and had acid thrown on her face. All characters characters justified the act by saying, “ acha hoa, Ye thi hi aisi qabil “. An acid victim was shown in a negative way , and a man who commits a crime is shown in a positive light, gaining the sympathy of audience, in Ishq Hai. Crime rate against women is bound to increase with such mentality.

I remember watching Sana Javed's Dar Khuda se, it was weird drama and potrayed acid attack victims as if they deserve it. Our writers take these matters as fiction, not reality so they take the gimmicky route for it and make a joke out of everything and anything. I mean look at Ruswai, what a joke it was in the name of story of a rape survivor.

I am writing this before even watching the video bcz I saw many people talking about skin tone of Ahmad in Parizaad and that why did they not hire a dark skinned actor. I have read the novel. I know how offensive black face is. FIrst of all, he is brown, not black. Secondly, hiring a dark skinned actor for a character that is being prejudiced against and called 'ugly' bcz of his skin tone (which happens a lot here), would have been very offensive to the actor and that acor would not have been able to come out of this role then. Ahmed can just wash his face and leave all of this behind. After the 'do taky ki larki' episode of MPTH, many people started commenting do takay ki under Ayeza's photos and someone even yelled this at her at an airport. Same would have happened with the actor, if they had hired a dark skinned one.

DNUTN: Big reveal on Zulfi and how amazingly they portrayed a man with substance of character! And Samia Mumtaz's character is just wow! That she tolerated the weak man that is Naseem Zahra's father for so many years and still held on to her strength despite the little agency she had in that house - is nothing short of a miracle. The stance she takes for her daughters which she probably couldn't take for herself transforming into an absolute lioness when her children's dreams were threatened- this makes her one of the best mother's characters ever written and performed in dramas. Please invite her for an interview! I almost don't want DNUTN to end, what a treat it's been and now the dry spell is likely to begin. Parizaad looks promising though with a refreshing storyline, Ahmed's portrayal of the character is quite believable even with his getup which could've easily been distracting but it's not.

I think that it is better that they didnot show an actual dark skinned person in the drama. In the drama, the character is considered ‘ugly’ by everyone. Even though it is just an act, but it is extremely wrong to label a person ugly who is born with the skin tone. Every natural skin tone is made to fit best with the face of a person. I could never envision Beyoncé or Zendaya as white, nor would they have looked that pretty as they look in real life. The skin color doesn’t suit the actor because it truly doesn’t match with his natural face. This is the only reason I am not uneasy with people calling him ugly or the blackface

Exactly! A drama speaking up about colourism, but instead of choosing an actor that was dark-skinned they chose a light-skinned actor. It is so hypocritical. I know people are going to say “Well, there might not be actors who fit the role but act as good as him” and that’s untrue. So many good actors do not get the chance to act just because they do not fit the beauty standards of the industry. It’s ironic and makes me mad.

I've been watching you guys' videos for a while now, and I've always been so impressed by your points of view because they're always so refreshing amidst the sea of ignorance we're usually presented with. Today, however, I am so IMMENSELY disappointed in the way you guys (more specifically Amna Sahiba) so casually brushed off brownface just because Ahmed Ali Akber's performance was good. In the Haute bites episode where you reviewed "Oye Moti" Amna Sahiba raised the point that the drama was self-contradictory because instead of actually giving overweight actresses opportunities, they simply took skinny actresses and stuffed them into fat suits. The same thing is being done here but no one seems to care. Dark-skinned people are never given any representation in our media and when they are, it's a white dude with brown paint slathered all over him, defeating the ENTIRE purpose of there being a dark-skinned main character in the first place. An actor’s performance may be exceptional, but that doesn’t override the fact that what brownface is morally wrong. Imagine if Meryl Streep took the role of a Pakistani woman to “represent” the struggles they go through abroad. I’m sure you’d be offended at the idea that someone who’s never had to face these types of struggles is profiting off of them. Why is it any different when Ahmed Ali Akber does it? Also, hair or eye colour is not the same as skin tones, because no one’s prejudiced for having a certain eye colour or hair. I honestly really expected you guys to be more sensitive about this issue and talk about it more rather than "being ok with it". Both of you look absolutely ravishing though, Hassan sahib should wear traditional clothes more often. :)

Watching the first episode, the novel Parizad, seems to be inspired by the french play Cyrano de Bergerac written in 1897. It is about a boy, Cyrano, who is very talented, a poet, but is ugly( long, big nose, too bad there were no nose jobs then🥴). He writes love letters and poetry on behalf of his friend who loves a girl. Cyrano is also secretly in love with the girl but thinks he would not be loved by any woman due to his ugliness. It is a tragedy and the guy dies in the end. Films were made on it too , the first in 1950. Later , an updated version of the play was made into a comedy with Steve Matin. ☺️Hashim Nadeem seems to have based the concept of his novel on that 19 th century play. He sure likes to live in the past. 😊( I hope he mentioned the play in credits).

Cyrano De Bergerac was first played out in 1897. According to that time I do feel it was justified showing a man as ugly, but Paarizad is shown in modern times. I mean Ahmed ali akbar with a bit of styling will look good. Not that I'm nitpicking but again, just a keen observation. Shouldn't Hashim Nadeem sahb, make this play in late 70's or 50's?

Parizaad views disappointed me big time! How can they be so low? I'm convinced majority of the pak drama audience are kids aged 14-16 yrs old lacking common sense. Cuz like how can anyone sane, with common sense choose Ishq Hai over Parizaad? Or KAM3 over DNUTN?

I agree. Even the drama has a huge star cast such as Yumna, Ushna, Ahmed, Urwa, Saboor and much more but it was barely a million views. Our nation is evolving but backwards.

@@rahmed5701 It really isn't blackface. I agree other means could have been taken, but he is shown to be dark skinned since childhood. Also no one directly (atleast in 1st episode) called out him being dark skinned. Also with that he has shown to be intimidated by everyone that may plays out to him not being liked by women in the drama.

Dear Aamna and Hassan. You are absolutely right about Dour. It is very painful that this sterio type of husbands like Yasmeen's exist in our society. Thats why our new generation have phobia to marry our boys. These type of characters are in every drama. Come on , they have to show good husbands as well.

1) If Johnny Depp can become "Jack Sparrow" then why not Ahmed as Parizad?! If the former is versatility so is the latter. 2) Farhad's love was innocent, unharmful because it started from infatuation which led him to God. The infamous bad-dua was his expression of pain. Whereas, Shahzaib is genuinely toxic, so is Hammad, Raza, Nimra and especially the parents. One parent made Shahzaib realize that apology comes easy, the other never gave room for expression. There's a difference in loving, caring and spoiling as a brat. Ishq Hai is not entertainment but pertails what kind of frustrated and almost toxic and psychopathic society we have.
