Hey I’m a junior in high school and really thinking about being a baker. I love baking cakes and cookies, brownies but I’m not that advanced to the point I know everything yk? For example after college, if I do choose to do baking do can I choose to open my own shop? Also how many years did you study pastry in
@TheBakersAlmanac4 жыл бұрын
I went to pastry school for about nine months, and I went on to work as a pastry cook in a restaurant. I would definitely recommend working in a restaurant or bakery before opening your own shop!
@rachela52523 жыл бұрын
Why won’t more Americans study in Europe. One thing they don’t tell you is that it’s a lot cheaper to get that education/experience abroad. You can save thousands studying the same course, in an equally good university if only you apply directly rather than through companies that charge way more.

Do you see the culinary industry growing and be in more in need of pastry chefs in the next years? Isn't it now not a great moment to study the craft, since with covid so many restaurants and pastry shops are in economic difficulties?
@TheBakersAlmanac3 жыл бұрын
Such a good point! I'm curious to see how the culinary industry bounces back over the next few years. While times are difficult right now, I think there will be always a demand for restaurants, so I expect things to pick up soon.

Practice makes perfect. I'm not a pastry chef but I've been cooking for years, and I can confidently say that failure is not the opposite of success, it's part of the process. It's how you learn. Have faith and don't give up! God bless
@GoddessAngelinaj3 жыл бұрын
Most people feel that way--especially about the thing they're most passionate about. It's called "Imposter syndrome." You feel like whatever you do won't be as good as the people already on the scene doing what you want to do, so then you ask yourself "why even try?" And you talk yourself out of it. Most people feel or have felt that way. No matter what it was you were going to try, there is always going to be someone out there doing it "better" or "first." With that logic, no one should ever do anything :) It's silly how our minds work. That's why you really need to take the mentality that you're doing it for the joy that it will bring you. And the joy that it will bring others who get to try your creations. No one expects you to be perfect--that comes with time and dedication. Regret is much heavier on your soul than trying and finding out something isn't right for you. Everyone fails their way to success. Everything worth doing is: worth doing wrong as many times as it takes until you figure out how to do it right.
