What a tribute to Cael Sanderson to have Taylor follow in his footsteps. It's not about competition, it's about increasing interest in this marvelous sport , building on the Smith tradition and improving and challenging the young men. How exciting for the sport and all of us lucky followers. Bravo!

Good for David Taylor. Competition improves the sport. Don’t lose your mind.

As long as Cael is coaching, PSU will be winning championships year after year.

Interesting. More likely to hurt Bucks than Lions.

Also, a US Olympic Champ is not an outsider he represents every single one of us. He just happened to cut his teeth at PSU. Future Olympic champs will still go to PSU because the room is still insane.
@stumpslide30056 ай бұрын
This is it. DT is not an outsider. He is among the greatest USA wrestlers in history. He’s an insider who can open up OSU and help restore our former glory.

Threat how Cael and Penn State are going to continue doing what they’re doing and still be successful. Oklahoma State with David Taylor are going to be successful and eventually challenge for a title but now with the consistency that Penn State is going to.
@macgyvervanschwartzenstall46626 ай бұрын
There is an interview when Sanderson first went to PSU, and he was asked about Iowa. He said one school winning everything wasn't good for wrestling. I actually would bet he would stand by that to this day. Best case scenario is wrestling gets elevated by someone coming along to push PSU. You want the schools out west and down south trying to compete with the Big 10. You want bigger budgets and more drama. PSU doesn't have a better legacy by being a vacuum that sucks up all the talent. PSU has a better legacy by wrestling growing and people looking back on how it changed the sport for the better.
@zaqwsx28116 ай бұрын
Correct. Cael's legacy is not only locally/regionally, but nationally and even maybe ultimately internationally. Taylor, and other future head coaches who've come through PSU/Cael's system, are also a part of Cael's legacy.

And at the end of the day, all of these coaches love their sport and want to grow the sport. John Smith actually spoke about this often. and I’m sure that Sanderson is very happy for Taylor. These coaches love to compete and are looking forward to the challenge

Pennsylvania has several times more high school wrestlers than Iowa and Oklahoma put together. It's a matter of numbers. Throw in New York and New Jersey in his back yard, and I don't think Cael has too much to worry about. Relax and enjoy while it lasts which appears to be quite a few years in the future.
@sampeterson12716 ай бұрын
Cael has all he ever wants. There is plenty to go around. God, success, and believe me he gives David his blessing. Remember, Cael too was an outsider. God's will, brother.
@sampeterson12716 ай бұрын
David will own the left coast east to Oklahoma. Maybe eat into the Brands’ stash. But, Nittany Lion nation is safe…AS LONG AS CALE IS IN STATE COLLEGE. No impact on Lion dynasty. Good luck, David.
@averagebloke44746 ай бұрын
Yes but Penn State has to give Cael whatever he wants and more. We can't let this one slip. I mean anything including the kitchen sink.
@zaqwsx28116 ай бұрын
OKST will now eat more into Iowa/Mich/Neb's recruiting influence in the mid & southwest. There's way to many talented high-school wrestlers in the country for Penn State to take, but with Cael & Co., they'll always take the cream of the crop.
@Ohio986 ай бұрын
Cael had his decade. He is the runaway top dog. Nonetheless, well-rounded olympic champs inevitably attract top recruits & Caels monopoly will get broken up. He doesn't mind. Cael's teams will always be competitive. Let the parity begin!!!

No joke it's like what records does he have left? Dan Gable's championship number is about all I can think of...That's like rock star status....

Being a wrestler and being a great coach...two different things. Taylor has yet to prove he is any kind of coach. Penn State is safe!!
@bollie85846 ай бұрын
This is more of a threat to Iowa, Michigan and Ohio St than Penn St. Atleast right now..itll take DT 3-4 yr to get to a dynasty level that Cael is on.
@raywalteroutdoors6 ай бұрын
Nope, just making more room in the NLWC for future champs. I'm sure Cael had a nice talk with David and was supportive of this decision.

This is the best thing that could happen to NCAA wrestling. Who wants NCAA tournaments year after year with no team race? I hope DT takes all the young hammers in his M2 wrestling club in State College and recruits them to Oklahoma State! Competition is good for the sport. DT will make a great head coach. He will make Ladarian Lockett a multiple year NCAA champ. Remember, DT left Iowa State to follow Cael to Penn State. What if Levi Haines made the move to Oklahoma State? Hey, one can dream, right? I AM a PSU fan, but it would be nice to have three or four teams in the running. DT can make Oklahoma State a powerhouse once again. Brands will stay at Iowa for a few more years and then the Hawks will need a new coach as well. What say you: Dake or Spencer Lee?

You’re 100% right. Awesome for wrestling. Can’t wait to watch it all!!

The Midwest's historically dominant programs are really in need for new blood at the head coaching positions, for the good of the sport. Good for OKST, and great for college wrestling
@barningknight86836 ай бұрын
I’m not going to lie, I think Oklahoma high school wrestling is very far behind Pennsylvania high school wrestling. That matters at the end of the day when most of your roster is going to be in-state talent.
@paulmalfara60716 ай бұрын
So let's look at PSU's squad from this past year. Starters who DIDN'T go to high school in PA.: Davis, Nagao, SVN (injured), Messenbrink, Aaron Brooks, Truax, Kerk. Are you getting my point here?
@stephenmoist6236 ай бұрын
There will ALWAYS just be a battle for 2nd place as long as Cael and Staff are at PSU !!!! FACT. Love DT however he’s All about himself !!!!

Cael doesn't just recruit the best wreslers. He has a knack for recruiting guys with character and something else that others dont see. The psu train will keep rolling as long as Cael is there.

Cody, great podcast. Very informative but you might want to think about updating your OSU flag to the current logo. That logo is old and no longer the official logo of the university.

People are completely over reacting. DT got offered a bag of money and sold out. Cael and PS will continue to crush Oklahoma. Only difference will be DT will be on the losing team. Lol

If it were Burroughs going to a Rutgers i'd say def. but i don't see this doing much to break up dynasty level dominance. We'll see. Curious to see who he brings on for his coaching staff.

Surprised Coach Smith retired? Seriously? In his interview immediately after NCAAs where he said he was happy with his 10th place finish, I wouldn't have waited for him to retire...I would have fired him. Hey OSU fans...here's a little clue...DT doesn't have to worry about fitting into the OSU program...the OSU program had better adapt to him real quick.

You heard it here first. A lot of Hawks are gonna get poached to Oklahoma. The touted "Iowa way" is neurotic - that's why, to a man, all their studs crack mentally at the NCAAs & look like a regiment of tightly bandaged civil war casualties. Their champions get worse as the years go on: Kemerer, McDonough the Emaciated, Woods, the Bull, Lee, etc. That sheer willpower type of dominance isn't human enough to carry grapplers into greatness especially onto the international stage. God made Champions have a full heart to complement their iron will.
