So no. It does _NOT_ have every right to control policy - public television is state funded, but not state controlled. Editorial has never been hit so hard and so fast by the change. Journalists are being laid off at rate that was unseen before. No previous shift in politics has been so seismic. And creme de la creme: new president of public television is a politician. He knows democracy is not in danger and all that rumour is made only by those who lost the elections in Poland + those who are against our refugees politics in europe. You say in this material that tens of tousends people are protesting against PiS. Are you kidding me? On the largest protest there were 5000 people. And week before there were antirefugee manifestations supporting PiS. And there were tens of tousends people - about 50.000. Please do something good for Poland and at least check the numbers you gave. If you talk with people, just on the street, biggest majority is supporting PiS beacuse we know those people for years and we know they are great freedom and democracy (check what Kaczynski did for Georgia) fighters. As a Polish person, let me tell you what this is about. The previous government, the Civic Platform, have been busy selling what's left of Polish industry to foreign corporations, subjugating Poland to the most powerful European countries and basically turning Poland into a reservoir-of-cheap-labour-second-rate EU member, whilst constantly droning on how Poland is a European success story. Meanwhile the living conditions of ordinary Poles remain pitifully low, with the real average wages of about 300 pounds, in many cases even less, and the prices are the same or higher than in the West. The makers of the documentary have only spoken to the minority of mosty well-off people who support the loser ex-government whilst completely ignoring the overwhelming majority who have voted for the Law and Justice party who promised to focus on Polish national interests which have been totally neglected in the last 25 years. If Poland really was such a success story do you think Poles would be emigrating in droves as is the case and has been for the last 10-odd years with no signs of abating? People are starting to see what the EU is really about - modern colonisation of weaker states by stronger ones. How is it that we have to conform to the most absurd European instructions and limitations but there's no one in Europe to worry about equal pay and living conditions across the EU? That there are such vast differences between individual memberstates is no accident, it's obiously working to someone's advantage.

Our current government has been democratically elected, and are enforcing changes that they were promising during the election. The KOD (committe to defend democracy) is being funded by the opposing liberal factions, that just can't get over the fact that they're finally not in power anymore. It's disgusting, because there are reports, and videos of protests in Poland, as if it's a country wide opposition. It's not! In my 150 000 city, about 50 people took part in the demonstrations, the rest are just curious as to how the new party will rule, and if they will finally bring us the changes we've been wishing for. This material is a disgrace. I used to think BBC is a really independent, and unbiased media. Now i think the only good thing they made is the Sherlock series:) Im not a PIS (law and justice) fan. I've not voted on them. But after what happend when they come to rule as a result of a DEMOCRATIC ELECTION, im beginnig to think that is was a right choice for Poland. Lies, propaganda and attempts to discredit them are awful. There must be a reason for that. They (as well as Poland) get more critisism than they deserve. I really cant see the threat for democracy here. Its true that the situatuion regarding national media and Constitutional Tribunal is a problem. But thats the problem we have for last 20 years or so!! Both were always controlled by politicians. And no journo is willing to say that to you:) And when the UE puppets (former governemt, Civic platform) were controlling it, it was totally ok for BBC. Now when new goverment is doing the same (which is wrong in general, as i said im not their fan) suddenly western media and politicians went histerical. What a hypocrisy. There are claims that the producer of this lampoon is Ms Maya Rostowska, daughter of a former Minister of Treasury, and that would explain a lot. The men is responsible for collapse of Polish social system, 150 milliards (or billion as american say - its 1 and nine zeros) that is equivalent to 40 milliards euro, has been transfered from private security accounts to the national social agency. Our money, saved by millions of Poles for our future, has been used to cover the holes in current budget. There was no BBC material when that happend. That is what former "democratic" governemt did. That brings me to my last thought: THERE IS NO DEMOCRACY IN EUROPE AT ALL. We are all deceived that we have any influence on government, beacuse we can vote once in 4-5 years. In the meantime, politicians can do whatever they want. And the people we can choose from are pointed by the leaders of the political parties:) Thats a joke. Sometimes its like a choice between cancer and HIV. Democracy has to be restored, not only in Poland, but in every European country. The only way is to give the people right to remove their representatives from office, at any time. That way they wont be dependent from political leaders (today they wont be put on the list again if they disobey). If one wont represent the people who voted on him/her, he/she is gone, removed from parliament. I really hope it will be the next step that we will take here in Poland, after this current goverment will be gone. Untill that time, i agree with the man from the video: WE WILL BE FINE:) We've survived Hitler, Stalin and Tusk. The material is not as bad as the commentaries suggest - it's just plainly imbalanced. The speakers make suggestions, speculate, emotionally influencing the reception of the situation by the viewer. Good that the commentary by Sasin is there as well. However, the journalist has mistaken the Highest Court with the Constitutional Tribunal (Court). It's the choice of members of the Constitutional Court that is the most important standing issue now.

what an awful document.... I'm from Poland, I didn't vote to select PiS to our parlament but I recpect result of democratic decision of society. Those who lost power in result of democratic voting just can't deal with result. Now they protest inside the country and also try to tell lies outside of our country.... it is awful.

I'm from Poland and I have to say that I'm really ashamed for the Law and Justice actions. I mean I know that our former government wasn't the best and they spoilt the Constitutional Tribunal but Law and justice are even worse. They've managed to make contitutional tribunal worse then it used to be, they have sacked all the directors in the ministries and they've changed most of the journalist in the state media. Oh, and I forgot about making us look like idiots on the international scene and behaving like Germany was our worst enemy. Congratulations Law and Justice you've managed to do it in two freaking months.

BBC standards have been going to the shambles for number of years now - being Pole I used to live in Britain for almost 20 years during which I watched hundreds of public debates and economy blocks on BBC (you know hugh pym) where the message from bank lobby was outright clear. When Britain was going to Iraq back in 2003 where was public voice taken into account? - one could watch hundreds of 'useful idiots' on 'Big Question' etc. There's is common saying not only in jurnalist profession that match perfectly UK mainstream view 'people are not that stupid as the may look - they stupidity is of cosmic proportion' - that's why one can still serve sth like above and count on many buying such vomit. PS. I've lived in Poland for the last 4 yrs now and believe me I can enjoy many more freedoms here that I could over there and although never voted on 'Law and Order' I absolutely dispise histerical reactions of those cronies whos appetite for public money overshadowed sense of decency.

Just before the elections the outgoing incumbent coalition introduced changes in the Constitutional Court leading to the nomination of its own candidates to all but one of the existing positions of judges at that Court. This was done in violation of the Constitution, as subsequently reaffirmed by the Constitutional Court itself. The newly elected parliament was therefore obliged to take the necessary remedial action. The controversy concerning the Constitutional Court, which was a consequence of the unconstitutional actions of the previous government, is practically over. The composition of the Constitutional Court is now complete with the majority of its judges - 9 out of 15 - having been recommended to their positions by the present opposition. Thank you for noticing what's going on, for not leaving us alone. It is getting worse & worse, suddenly - from being relatively free country -although we did not quite notice it & appreciated it - Poland is becoming a strange old Soviet-style place. Now only the mechanism changes, you do't see yet the result in real life. But unfortunately soon we will all experience it & it is a scarry chill on our backs. Please, West - don't leave these changes without noticing. The iron curtain was broken because of many good people in the West who weren't lukewarm to what was happening in Poland. We are going out in the streets, we are fighting a great propaganda machine & it is hard. Thank you for your help.

It was all about the old communists who were never properly kicked out of the politics fuelling corruption and other bad things in Poland. The new government has finally sorted them out. The Tusk was their guy that's why the conflict with the EU.
