As an Australian, I was in high school in the 1970s. Before school during sunrise, I would practice my bowling everyday. There would always be some other kids also playing cricket. I would usually play cricket with them after I was satisfied with my bowling. I also played cricket after school with my friends. But now, as a teacher, I don’t see any kids playing cricket. When I walk past the nets, I barely see anyone playing. In Australia, kids are now obsessed with the screen, and not many people like cricket anymore. It’s still popular, but it will unfortunately never be as popular as it used to be. I also remember playing cricket in the neighbourhood in high school which never happens anyone.

Cricket will be number 5 -6 sports by this decade in india . 10 - 12 years back there was madness about cricket but not now. Its limited to cities while in many villages people have shifted to other sports . Some major reasons are too much of cricket, flat tracks not much for bowlers , big ipl and preference over national team , poor performance in icc events , star centric market , worthless bilateral series lack of tournaments which made some competition , lack in quality of player skills compare to old generation . Future of cricket looks not great it will be limited to world cup and t20 leagues only

One more reason is our tendency as a human to sit for longer durations. For example, earlier people used to wait for their favourite shows till a Sunday weekend. Then multiple channels came in, then OTT and KZbin, and now getting human attention span for 60 seconds in a TikTok or Instagram reel is also hard to get. Now relate this to 5 days of Test cricket with a T20, same thing. Making people sit for 5 days is horribly impossible. In football, an average match can only takes maximum of 2 hours at best. One more thing is ICC's arrogance in not letting more than 8-10 teams play Test cricket or even promote other ODI teams, even when the ball was in their court. They should have let the game flourish but they themselves never took any interest and now only 1 country is left to act like the backbone of cricket.

Small nations won't give you that revenue, so you kick them out. It's because people have changed. The attention timespan of people has decreased by a huge margin during this past decade. It's not just afffecting cricket but movie theatres as well. People do not have time and willpower to spend an entire day in a stadium under scorching heat and humidity. The focus towards quality has decreased by unprecedented margins and the ones who are interested in sports merely watch it for online betting and gambling. Even a t20 match requires a person to sit in the stadium for atleast 3:30 hours.

Though I'm not a cricket fan but I think it's the only classy sport so from an unbiased point of view I think it's ICC which is solely destroying cricket. Now cricket is played even by lesser no. of countries than it were played 15-20 yrs back. See FIFA, in 1978 there were just 16 teams, in 1998 it became 32 and from next time it will be 48 i.e ×3 in just 4.5 decades. When teams like Zimbabwe, Kenya were struggling ICC didn't gave them any support which resulted in death of Kenyan Cricket and Zimbabwean cricket reaches its death bed. Similar fate is happening with WI. Once Kenya was a great cricketing team. After studying the sports history I came to know it was major sport in Neatherlands, Irelands, Cananda once upon a time. Even English cricket popularity is in decline. The more dominant BCCI becomes the lesser other nations will be involved and it might become like AFL. Entirely opposite happened for Football where FIFA is continuously trying since several decades to make Football globe-wide and they recieved success but ICC is trying opposite : more and more limiting. There might be a reason because the English lords didn't want to spread cricket as ICC's former name was Imperial Cricket Council but Football showed a welcome gesture to every nations. And also too much ICC events (like every year) are also important reasons. If ICC would manage itself properly then surely ICC WCs would be played today with 24+ teams.

I am a Pakistani and here, after the ICC World T20 in 2016, many people, including myself, stopped watching cricket. However, that passion was revived to some extent after winning the Champions Trophy in 2017. One good thing that I would like to tell you is that cricket is becoming popular again here due to the emergence of players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and the good performance of the team in recent years. PSL is also one of the reasons I agree with you that cricket is slowly dying. Australia won the T20 World Cup in 2021, but it wasn't even a major headline there. There wasn't any significant celebration in England either after winning the T20 World Cup in 2022. Now, their ppl only watch the Ashes or the ODI World Cup finals. One thing is for sure, cricket is growing financially. Cricket stars are now making a lot of money through leagues compared to before. However, that spirit is slowly fading away. Even in Pakistan, you rarely see children playing cricket on the streets anymore I have no shame in admitting that India is backbone of cricket snd without India, Cricket ne mar jaana hai. Cricket is only popular in Indian subcontinent, outside noone really cares. I remember when England won the world cup in 2019 many British people did not even knew that they won the world cup why because football and rugby is more popular in England. 25-15 years ago Australia and South Africa use be strong teams they were even stronger than India and Pakistan on paper and now their quality as decreased a lot. In these countries younger generations watch more football. Especially, in Australia's case football's popularity is growing. In the last 15 years they have qualified for every world cup and last year in2022 they had the best performance when they reached the knock out stages and currently they are ranked 27th in the world which is not bad. In comparison India is ranked 102 in the world and gets trashed even in qualifying rounds.

The greed of icc and BCCI has decline the growth of cricket in the world, the concept of 10 teams with round Robin policy was introduced by icc just because to capture indian market with maximum Indian teams matches in the tournament as if team doesn't reached knockout still they will have 3 matches KO loss. Second instead of making healthy competition between bat and ball they are focusing on high score matches which may reduced the inspiration to become bowlers in new teams player. Totally leave the partialty mentality with Bcci, ecb,cricket australia(these boards are too much selfish & lower mentality & only see their own economy)because all teams are a family member, 3.Give more attention for all associate teams so that mainly the native players are maximum in playing 11 for all associate teams, 4.Give a friendly environment of cricket in all associate nations & give more infrastructure,,also good stadiums 5.Remove all obstacles for which Cricket's globalization is a problem means bcci/some rich boards dominance 6.Totally erase Test & 50 over odi(also 50 over world cup & 2023- world cup should be last cricket world cup of 50 over format)_unnecessary bilateral series between all the test teams regularly should be reduce by the name of globalization!!!! 7.Give all associate teams to face all test teams regularly by bilateral series 8.Test,50 over,1st class cricket, 2nd class cricket should totally close within 1/2 months 9.Cricket format should be only T20 & T10(Shorter version) in international & domestic from both sides & by these 2 Shorter version of game try to cricket to be a real global sports 10.Try to get a sit in 2028 Olympics in USA,11.Try to capture the market of mainly USA & China,11.Try to increase the nations 108-150(atleast) & then try to increase more teams,,Try to bring all continents under ICC umbrella as a cricket playing nations,,12.World test championship & 50 over reduce in 40/30 over is totally a worthless, fool idea,it has no neccessary, 13.In all associate countries there should be T20/T10 domestic leagues like other test nations14.Every 2 years T20/T10 world cup should be held & in every edition participating nations should be increase not only 20 nations, increase more teams & it is right that competition level will not downfall,,15.Cricket in all time is a mainly batsman fever game but give equal advantage to batsman & bowlers in T20/T10 game___ Many financially weak nations, many nations who were not traditionally under British empire & many non english speaking nations are also now playing Cricket,,so main part is of course it's time wasting part means Test/50 over odi(for that cricket can't reach a global sport image)_which should be totally erase as very soon as possible within 1/2 years & T20/T10 should be the future of the nice game in international & domestic from both sides,,So don't be backdated always should be updated by time & time is a very important part of life,,,All can happen, nothing is impossible,,but take new more innovative ideas & be serious,,,casual mentality is a crime,,So go ahead & try to cricket to be a global game all over the world_16.ICC t20/t10 world cup should be held in every associate nations in upcoming years17.Test teams vs associate teams bilateral series regularly should be held like home & away base,,Best of luck

I would add something as a French: stop the status differences between nations on ICC. Why France and India doesn't have the same status? They are playing the same sports with the same rules. So why does cricket has the worst idea ever with the status system. It's like if FIFA says that all teams who wins world cup has special status and other countries has nothing and less visibility. It would be a disaster. Also, why does cricket still have ODI and Tests? No one play Test (only 10 teams, the special status one). So why ICC don't says "Ok we get rid of Test, if you want to make test, you create the International Test Cricket Federation"?

2024 t20 world cup might become my last world cup as a die hard cricket fan. 20 teams is a great decision but it should've happen back in 2011 world cup. 50-50 world Cup should've had 20 teams back in 2011, football moved from 32 to 48, Cricket went from 16 to 14 to 10 to 14 again. That's a massive downgrade out there. Cricket can be a great example of using sport to help people, but they're not doing anything for great expansion. Cricket should have 20 teams at least in world cup.
