The video never answered the question that's in the title, "Is pornography always an addiction?". And considering the nature of the video, it's not clear exactly what you guys mean by that. If the question means "Is it possible to watch pornography and not get addicted?", then the answer is yes. If the question means "If someone becomes addicted to pornography, can they ever stop being addicted?", then the answer is still yes. However, the problem this video poses, doesn't address the former interpretation of the question, the it suggests that the answer to the latter interpretation is "no". I think the major issue is that this video conflates pornography with sex addiction. And it's questionable whether sex addiction is a real thing or not. Rather than asking if pornography is an addiction, how about asking someone who feels guilty for watching why they feel guilty. And the answer can't be "because I've sinned", because that doesn't address the details. Why does that person personally feel guilty? Why does that person believe pornography is a sin? On that note, how about you guys answer the latter question. Why do you think pornography is a sin?

All great points! Yes, it wasn't directly answered. The title wasn't chosen by me and I didn't know the title when interviewed. My personal goal and intended message was to provide a more healthy perspective regarding pornography. If I/we had more time I would have gone into greater detail, some of what you brought up. Thanks for pointing it out.

Thank you for having an episode on this! The way we talk about pornography use in the church has got to change. People who have looked and use pornography are not monsters, same goes with any substance use. It used to be said "if you encounter porn...this is what you do." but now it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. And when we can have that open discussion about it and why we seek it out then healing can occur, and questions and curiosity can be answered. Many times pornography use is started by curiosity, but then grows into a way of coping. There is a difference between addiction, and using something to cope. Either way we need to learn how to cope with things in life in a healthy way and all of that comes back to how we discuss topics like this. There are tons of resources out there for those of you who are struggling or just want to know more how to help those in your life who view pornography. Here are three fantastic sites you can look at. www.lds.org/addressing-pornography/?lang=eng -this is the churches website that discusses pornography and how to find healing fightthenewdrug.org/ -this website educates about the effects of porn use. www.joinfortify.com/legacy - this website is for those of you who are struggling and want help, and there is a tracker that can help you map out your patterns of usage and really dive deep into what is going on.

Why would a member start to watch pornography? Why would young members start? Could it be because parents don't talk to kids about sex? Curiosity? We're encouraged to stay away from sex until marriage but the world nonchalantly talks about it. So how as one supposed to relate? Not everyone has member friends that keep sex hush hush.

Everyone has seen porn or heard about it everyone has curiosity I'm a convert and my family and I talk about sex and things all the time its not a taboo its healthy and normal to have these feelings a lot of people who are taught sex is bad have so many fears when they get married its really unhealthy not to discuss it I'm 18 and I'll legit volunteer to give sex ed lessons. I have friends out of state who ask me there questions because they don't want to be judged by parents its sad they would rather ask a random person over there family ya know

@@emilylee5109 of course it is a natural thing that shouldn't be avoided. But it should also be treated with respect and solemness because of how sacred it is. Blatantly going around and making jokes about it is being disrespectful to it and porn is the ultimate of it. Granted it isn't always an addiction as this video proved, but it is still something that should be spoken about in right company. At least that is what I believe.

I greatly, greatly Appreciate that you offer a way out for people of faith. not to overcome or deny what it is a natural and biological drive; but to overcome feelings of unworthiness which plagues tons of people when they masturbate and/or watch pornography. thank you for diving in to this much needed topic. 💙 Please we need more of this Content to help teens and young adults understand their individual self worth!!! thankyou saints unscripted.

There is nothing unusual about the 12 steps not working they have about 5-10 percent success rate which could very well be the spontaneous remission rate or in other words the people that get better without any help. The problem is not that she thinks she is an addict the problem is the 12 steps dont work. If someone wants help they can get a psychologist or a non 12 step program such as smart recovery. If interested you can look up lance dodes and his book the sober truth. This will explain some of the problems with 12 steps
@improvingintimacylatter-da8488
@improvingintimacylatter-da8488 6 жыл бұрын
Yes and no. You are correct, there is a higher success rate with those who do nothing, then those who attend 12 steps. Sex/Porn "addiction" is a science. She was NOT addicted. Furthermore I've worked with severe out of control sex and porn behavior. I've yet to find someone actually addicted. The science (medical and behavioral) do not support such a diagnosis.
@phillipwales5806
@phillipwales5806 6 жыл бұрын
that may be your opinion but addiction has a lot of dissagreement in the field. the amount of doing the activity does not necessarily have anything to do with whether it is an addiction. for lance dodes it depends on underlying issues not how often and he is in the same field now retired. also based on the interview here the 12 steps or more specifically step 1 appears to be at least part of the problem. by the way there is nothing wrong with being addicted because it can be overcome despite the crap the Alcoholics Anonymous spouses that we are powerless and must deal with it for the rest of our freaking lives. like i said the label is not the problem it is what the label means to us which comes from AA. I also found it interesting you admit the rate for the 12 steps is so low and still support the 12 steps. this is repugnant. STOP sending people to programs that dont work.
@kgarnold8938
@kgarnold8938 6 жыл бұрын
To say that the 12-Step programs does not work (the one point I disagreed with) Is a lack of understanding of what the 12 steps are. If you don't have a believe in the Savior and His atonement then your believe that they don't work may be justified. If you do believe in Christ then the 12 Steps work. Each step serves one purpose... To bring us to Christ. They are not about addiction, they are about accepting Christ's invitation to "Come unto me all ye that labor and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28)

i do believe in Christ. I dont believe in the 12 steps. if the best we can do is match the spontaneous remission rate ie no treatment to dissagree with this is unscientific. also the 12 steps is not taking resposibility see kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmPZgaWho7d-i80

I don't know much about Augustine but even the lds leaders have taught to believe in yourself they just appear to be confused about addiction and recovery. I believe it was elder Holland in April 2017 said believe in yourself and believe in him. I can forgive them for making mistakes we all do. I just hope they get this corrected soon as many people are suffering and need real help not just group support.

The Church really needs to have a complete paradigm shift on how it addresses sexuality. It's a problem most religions have (because they understand on some level that these things are wrong to different degrees), not a 'mormon' thing. But it's still important. The Church has a pretty bad culture at talking about it or addressing it. Yet cut past the fire and brimstone / hammer and nails, fundamentally we're very open and accepting with a foundation of love. But that love doesn't show when you read about this subject. You mostly just see that sexual sins are right there along side *murder* and just about the worst thing you can do apparently. Not a good look, and not good for people who want help. The LDS church has one of the best frameworks at its heart. But I don't feel like that heart gets shown, instead people with these issues just see the fire and brimstone and it sends them on downward spirals.

@Carrie-Anne Corley No, you're just spiteful and vindictive. You are sour and come across as utterly toxic and aggressive. Nothing special or unique, people like you can be seen anywhere attacking others for their faiths, whatever the faith is. Mormonism in particular seems to inspire hatred in the hearts of people like you, the closer to the truth something is the more aggressive the hatred towards it.

I came here only to say this: THAT FISHBOWL IS TOO SMALL FOR THAT FISH. Goldfish, when living in proper tanks/ponds can get to 6 inches long and the MINIMUM requirement for a goldfish is to have a filtered 6-8 gallon aquarium (with a preference of it being 10+ gallons) and anything less will stress out the fish and cause it’s life to be short and miserable. The constant water changes that a bowl that small would require to cause that fish to not die of ammonia poisoning will also stress out the fish. You are perpetuating the ideas that fish can be kept in way to small tanks and that fish are props/accessories rather than living animals with the ability to feel pain and suffering. If you cannot spend the 15$ on a 10 gallon aquarium and the 25-30$ on a good filter, please give that fish to someone who will actually take care of it. I don’t care if you think it’s happy, it’s not. It looked like a beautiful fish in the other video I saw and I hate to think that it’s hurting. Find it in your hearts to do the right thing and give that fish the life it deserves
