The clock isn’t overrated at all. I lived in Prague as a child in 70s and visited the city again in 2022; after a gap of 40 years! I love the city! It has a vibe of its own! Places like Prague are not for seeing only; they are meant to be felt! You must read and explore about the history of the places and then visit them. Also read about the legends and stories associated with those places. Prague is love! I hope and wish to visit this beautiful city again!

My wife and I are visiting Prague from 6th - 13th February and are just starting to get excited. We just wanted to say that your videos are fantastic and so very helpful. We are staying in old town in a hotel with a view of the Astronomical clock. We will be dressed warm and ready to go exploring. I’ve already booked the museum complex, a Slavia Prague home match and we are both looking forward to seeing the Castle. Thank you so much for these amazing guides. We will be deliberately going off the beaten track as well to find some of the hidden gems you’ve suggested 🙏🏻 Alex and Elsbeth

Everyone likes different things. I loved the clock and was overwhelmed thinking about all who had vied it since 1410. While filming keep your other hand on your wallet is not bad advice. If we can get all the people who think Paris, Vienna, and Prague are overrated to just go to Disney and leave the rest of us alone, we will all be happier. Not liking something popular doesn’t make you sophisticated. Loudly proclaiming it makes you a bore. Keep up the great work RPGs.

Řekl bych, že toto není problémem jen Orloje a Prahy. Někteří turisté nerozlišují mezi zábavním parkem vybudovaným pro jejich potřeby a historickým místem/památkou.

You know the Astronomical Clock is not riveting and won’t blow you away but it is beautiful and interesting and well worth the time and effort to see. Our hotel was in Old Town so we kind of took it for granted but would have thought the trip incomplete if we had blown it off. Way better than “the Golden Roof” in Innsbruck. BTW, I replayed the video and I heard cLock every time, and I was really listening!

Generally, i don't care about the others' opinion, someone told me he didn't like Kutná Hora and it's boring and not worthy, BUT I would say I LOVED THE TRIP THERE SO MUCH, I have my own perspective (specifically because I'm an architect). Yet I've not been in Staré město Prahy, but I'm pretty sure I'll love it too.

Yes the astronomical clock is just a clock, so is Big Ben in London it’s not the clock it’s the fantastic historical surroundings and the history of what it has seen and endured😉

That thing can tell you sunrise, sunset, moon phase, eclipses, gothic time, "civil" time, star time, day of the year, season, has a list of 365 saint names to name your child for every day of the year, zodiac... Just who makes such a machine in 1410? But it was commissioned by a Holy Roman Emperor no less fascinated with astronomy (or astrology?). Of course if nobody tells you anything and you just stand there you probably can't make heads or tails of it. Its nothing like a "normal clock".

I wouldn't go to Prague specifically for this clock, but if you are there why not take a look? It is interesting and has quite the history (just ignore the legend about the maker being forced blind and damaging it in revenge, its not true). It is very complex and a full explanation exists in youtube. Prague is definitely a tourist city and this is one of its tourist attractions. I myself was more fascinated by the mixture of architecture styles but you need to walk a lot, or rent the electric scooter, bicycle, or use the tram, etc. You get medieval, modern, soviet, etc in different parts of the city. I loved the many parks and open spaces people use to exercise, chill whatever. I wish my city had 10% of what Prague has.

Renovation is not an expression it’s something in particular,(a kind of works)a kind of devilish artisanal diy. Lot of trouble and lot more... even with more power...,and it always give bad results. For the people that use this expression they shall invent an other word for the kinds of works they narrate or make. And maybe that’s cause they do not remake things. (all the things)

I don't think it's overrated, but I don't think it's being marketed the right way. As far as I understand it, the most impressive thing about this clock is the fact that it was built in 1410, before the fact that the Earth orbits the sun became common knowledge, and it incorporated all the astronomical knowledge at the time, and was kept in working order (except for occasional repairs and later additions) for over 500 years. However, a lot of tourists just see the clock itself as a pretty photo opportunity and think that the clock show with the apostles and figurines is supposed to be the highlight, whereas these figurines were added between 1590 and 1860, centuries after the original marvellous clock was created. I think they were meant as light entertainment for people who were unable to understand the actual clock (i.e. the uneducated masses of the pre-industrial age). Nowadays, we have the means to educate in an entertaining manner (like KZbin videos), and there's no reason to make everyone see the figurines instead of showing them the clock and explaining why it's special.

I think the clock is amazing, and anyone who expects a clock, on the hour, to do a 10-minute show is an idiot. Of course the "show" would be very short. It's a clock! Of course, it needs repairs and restoration from time to time. It's incredible that it still works. I hope it will still be working for its 1000-year anniversary.
@barnacles62 Жыл бұрын
I think it's a gigantic piece of history. I thought it was the only astronomical clock in the world still working. Also, it had a curse, didn't one of the makers kill himself in it? Either way, any old structure is remodeled, updated and like people, the fashion of their clothes may change, the bones and skin grow old and weak, but they are still them....

Do not know whether this video is clickbait or not. I watched this video - to the end - and realised that there was five or six minutes of my life wasted. For your information, Real Prague Guides, my wife and I visited Prague in early February this year (2024) and we saw the clock in action. Contrary to the comment made in the title regarding 'disappointing', I can advise that, as a tourist, I thought it was remarkable - as did my wife. Consequently, advice to yourselves, Real Prague Guides, is to get an actual guide - and person with knowledge - who knows what they are talking about. Alternatively, people might ask that this video be removed due to its failure to meet community guidelines. Thumbs down.

I assume this is a misunderstanding. We are defending this clock against the opinion that it is a disappointing attraction. Just google “Prague Astronomical Clock Disappointing” and see how many articles and reviews say that.
