I think you had missed one important thing about buying tickets inside the Tram ! Inside it there are couple of machines to "valid some plastic ticket" and one machine to by ticket using credit card / ApplePay , where its located ?! usually in the middle of the Tram and you have next to the tram door a sticker that says in this cabin you can buy a ticket !!

So who's to say that it's a real ticket checker and not a scamer just out to make a quick and easy 1000cz? I understand they are supposed to have a badge which can be faked and an ID that can be faked as well. I know you can ask to see ID but that could start an argument as well

Many castles that look like they were destroyed also simply were used as a quarry. When the guy running the castle decides to walk away and doesn't come back, a castle pretty much is a quarry where you don't have to cut the stones first. So when farmers and peasants wanted to build a new house, and there was a shiny castle being unused and unnecessary, it was pretty much free real estate. The same, even if a bit darker, goes for cemeteries. You want to build a house, but don't have enough stone? Fear not, the old cemetery that nobody cares about anymore has many stones just standing around.

Planning to visit Prague in July. We are family of 3 people: me, wife and child with stroller. Including 2 big luggage. I checked in Google maps, that to reach our hotel near Tesnov street from airport we need to take a bus + metro. But after watching several videos about bus and train transfers from airport to city, we afraid it will be very messy with 2 big luggage and child in stroller, especially in metro escalators and stairs entering/exiting underground. The optimal solution will be to use the taxi standing near the exit of the terminal, but from your knowledge, how much will they take from us for the ride (me, wife, child + stroller + 2 big luggage) and do they accept cash in euro or I need to install some app and call the taxi from there? Thank you in advance.

bus going from the airport- no issue with large luggage. Using metro: use the front door of the first carriage or last door of the last carriage- they have more space made there for people who have bicycles or large luggage. No space issues there if you do not get on one of central metro stations during the peak hours (and even in that situation, its my experience with BICYCLE, large carriage should be no problem) P.S. there is UBER at the airport. I never used it but I guess they will have some surcharge over regular UBER as they have to pay fee to the airport. But really, no need for UBER as mentioned above

I haven't used the public transport in Prague - so I don't have first hand experience with it. And what you're describing doesn't sound like naturally "scam" rather inefficient and non-transparent tourist unfriendly system built (potentially intentionally) to incriminate people and make them uncomfortable from visit, earn on fines instead of trying to make it more transparet and friendly. And, yes, if what you're telling is true and your controllers are violent to extent of mid level (14+ days of body harm) - that's definitely uncivilized. On the other hand - I've been to Prague multiple times (by the means of own car or plane + taxi) and I can understand how people extrapolate this to be a one of multitude scams of that beautiful city. My main impression from my few visits was that it is that it's has the biggest concentration of scammers in the city center I've ever seen in all sorts of flavors. And trust me, I've travelled a lot in my past (1000++ cities and spots across the world). I think Rome is close by that parameter, but in Italy that's usually some sketchy-looking people who are approaching you in the outer streets, while in Prague you're being scammed in all the places that are supposed to be official and normal: parking lots, caffeterias, restaurants, taxis, currency exchanges, banks, shops, hotels... like the iimpression is that you must be on high alert in this city at all times. No surprises people feel that those controllers are a part of the overwhelming city vibe. Whether city have to do something with that... well, if you'd ask us - foreigners - I'd say - "yes", but eventually it's up to locals on what's their strategy on their public image and whether they want to be associated with this kind of behavior. Prague was known for scams dozens of years, so I think it's ok with local authorities and citizens. And after all, city is highly touristic, maybe it's public image would limit the amout of visitors to the level comfortable for locals (nowadays a lot of tourist centers are overwhelmed with tourist flows...), so who are we to tell locals on how they should behave - you know better for yourself. You can always claim it's a part of the local culture one might even want to experience as a part of the trip.

1) "....rather inefficient and non-transparent tourist unfriendly system built " . the public transport system in PRG is absolutely efficient and transparent, one of the best systems - as a local, I do not have to worry about tickets-interchanges, I use any mode of transport whenever I want. No worries about anything incl validation as I (like 95% of locals) have long term time period-based ticket (1M,3M,1Y) works perfectly. you 'validate' only once in the beginning of period and you are done for next X months. 2) I wonder what more "efficient" system of payment/fare is there in any specific city. Install barriers everywhere that would prevent ignorant tourists to break rules they did not bother to learn? That would not work for locals as easy 'hop on hoff off' system without need to 'validate' on every change is exactly what makes the system great for the locals. 3) It still fascinates me how so many tourists visiting PRG (after spending their days on LITERALLY 15-20 streets within the historic center) return home with impression that PRG is actually sort of amusenement park that revolves around tourists:):) No, not really, PRG is a city of 1.3 million of local people , and like 96% of them have nothing to do with tourism.

@@letecmig 1) well, you taken the quote out of the context. I've started from the statement that I can't evaluate efficiency of the public transport in Prague since I'm a car driver, so I'm not using it at all. I'm just basing my impression by this video. And key point here was about potential lack of transparency basing on fact that those incidedents happen that frequently (see stats in the video). 2) I'm not here to provide a solution. Just a mere observation/impression. But answering on what could potentially be changed - I'd probably start with making sure that law enforcement (especially, when we're talking not about police, but simply ticket controllers) are obeying laws and not using violence and threats where it's not neccesary to extent of severe damage to a health of visitors. In some cases for mere fair mistake. 2.1) It's part of broader picture, but doing something with enormous amount of petty fraud and scams in the city could be nice too - so that other incidents like this one that are having legal grounds wouldn't be percieved as just a next part of endless series of activities of scam artists. 3) Well for the rest here your numbers are astonishingly fake. Saying that 96% of the city doesn't care abbout tourism can't be further away from the truth. Quote from your site prague.com: "The tourism industry, including hotels, restaurants, tours and travel agencies, contributes nearly 60% to Prague's overall income." You can check other stats in other dimensions. But pretending that it's only 4% of city that's have anything to do with tourism is a blunt fake. 3.1) I can understand how locals can be indifferent / don't care on what tourists think about their city. Even more - some might even be full of those tourists (I can easily see how enourmous amount of them can be a burden) ... but then, if you don't care - why you care about what those tourists write about the sity in the internet - you anyway "have nothing to do with it" - let it be. You're comfortable in your city - and that's great. It's like with Italy and their ZTL. Sometimes there are even no signs - as a driver you had to visit a special map in advance to check which streets are marked black to know that as a tourist you're not authorised to drive by them. Locals know about them, so it should be "easy" for tourists too, isn't it? And luckly this rule brings more than 2 bln euros in fines to the Italian budget :) PS: TLDR: my keypoint was - I'm neither encourage nor justify the tourists who didn't put a necessary efforts to understand how to pay for the public transit. But I do remember Prague after a few visits to it - and I can understand how those tourists whose reviews were shown by the author of the channel could've come to the conclusion.

@@geekytraveler5899 eh, "The tourism industry ... contributes nearly 60% to Prague's overall income." The same article states that tourism " ...generating approximately 130 billion CZK (around 5 billion USD) in revenue" GDP (2022) of Czech Republic is about USD290.5 billion. PRG GDP is about 25% of Czech economy. Meaning roughly, PRG GDP is about USD 75 billion. Now how much is USD5 billion out of USD75billion? About 7%! Its simple maths. That site you are quoting is some random private accommodation and segway booking site Just think before you start quoting some nonsense from the internet.
