It reminds of what Hakham Faur in Horizontal Society vol 1 wrote about the folly of making our rabbanim into heroes and choosing zeal over halakha

Very compelling compromise and conclusion. Hazaq! Those who are obsessed with going to the Ohel and write letters to the Rebbi, it sounds very much that that has become their Judaism/mahut and qualifies as "lefanot" and therefore problematic. If that is not Doresh el HaMetim I'm not sure what is.
