Glad to see that the Rayman community still has people who geniuenly enjoy the first game. Rayman 1 has to be one of my favorite 2D platformers. While I do like my Mario games sometimes I need something more difficult and slower paced. Rayman 1 (from what I have played) is the best game in the series

Exactly, it's not always the fault of the game. For most control or button mapping in games, it's up to the player to learn, memorize, and adapt to it, same with difficulty. Having other options, easy modes, or control options is never a bad thing as long as they are optional. I struggled a bit with Rayman, but I still had a good time and almost rarely was caught by something I couldn't react to. It takes patience, so many platform games are really easy to the point of being kind of boring (to me), I don't see what's so bad about having a few challenging ones for players that enjoy it.

@@terreausore2435 Did I mention anything about reputation? I openly advocated for easy modes and accessibility, I think I more or less agree things like 100% completion shouldn't have been required to just beat the game. There are far more games that will appeal to players that don't want that challenge _including_ Rayman Redemption. Yes games like Yoshi's Island and the DKC series and many others have harder levels optionally and it's good for people looking for it, and I prefer that approach, yet most people still complain about the _optional_ hard content _they chose_ to engage with in those games, so no matter how you cater to players wanting more challenge, the casual side demands it be taken out of the game or changed anyway.

Not trying to start stuff but- Some people might find the game too hard and want to use the 99 lives code to help them with the difficulty, not everyone is that good at a game- it isn’t exactly considered cheating if you still have to go through the entire game, beat every level, and grab all the cages- once again, not trying to start anything

I actually miss the difficulty spike in the newer games. It made the journey feel personal and grand rather than just breezing through it in a single afternoon.

Did you know you can get the cage in Area 4 of bongo hills without helicopter hair? Yeah, you need to grab the ring as far away as possible and hold up when you jump off. WHATEVER YOU DO, don't press right!

Rayman 1 is way too hard for most people. It is straight up cruel to the point I'd consider it a rage game , though less obvious about it compared to something like Jump King. It wasn't properly play tested during development, so I don't think it was really meant to be that hard considering it was targeting kids.

I agree, just because a game is brutal doesn't mean it should be treated unfairly.

My main problem with Rayman 1 isnt the difficulty, even though it is kinda bullshit at times, it's his sluggish movement. It's fine early on but by the end of the game I just can't stand it anymore, especially when the game expects you to react quickly to enemies and obstacles. Even when I realize whats about to happen I don't have time to get Rayman to where he needs to be. Redemption is the definitive version just for the run button alone

This video made me go and replay Rayman 1 (DSi port on 3DS, it’s fairly close but I do wanna get an actual PS1 solely for this game) and MAN it’s been extremely fun! Every time I end up finding secrets I feel so satisfied, and the game is just SWARMING with so much charm and character! I’m glad I found this video and your channel, they helped remind me why I loved Rayman in the first place!

Seriously i've lost count on how many times i've beaten this game and i stil fully enjoy it every time i play it again 😇

I think the level design in Rayman 1 is well done. In some levels you come around in full circle and you can easily understand how and why. Sure it gets tough later on. But what game does not? I think some people wanted to get Rayman off as a game for children when it simply was not. It was and still is an engaging platformer everyone can have fun with. And what do people know? There are way tougher games out there that are also fun.
