My PoV on worth it: Short answer: Yes Long answer: -One of the best entry wargames - one of the few RTS with great SP focus, which due to instant pause can be played like a turnbase game too -really solid replayability esp. with the latest DLC and its generated Campaigns - Solid variety of nations and forces. -Good Price point, a really well mix of mechanics. -Singleplayer only, means no need for balancing things, Strong IRL units are REALLY strong in game too, which is nice for power fantasy. Only issue I have with it is that infantry is a bit underdeveloped. But the 80s were all about mechanical warfare so it makes sense. Fantastic video as always Twiglets :)

Man, this game is totally worth it! I tried the WARNO series, but it was too complicated for me the first time, and I didn't want to learn a whole new genre from the beginning - and that series tutorial section is horrible. I found Regiments on Reddit and I tried the Demo from Steam. And man, it was fun! So I waited for the next sale and bought the base game with DLC - and I love it! It is still not easy and have to think about your strategy, sometimes you have to restart the mission but I love this game! I am sad because Space Marine 2 is releasing tomorrow, so I will pause this game for a bit.

@@twiglets2 Best way I can put it is it plays like how your brain remembers World in Conflict back in the day. The single player ai is much more dynamic than Wargame Red Dragon which is the biggest selling point to me. @twiglets22 ай бұрын
@@buryitdeep it will be released very soon so watch this space! However the main tips would be to keep your units in cover 95% of the time (you see the little icon when hovering your cursor over trees and buildings etc) then to make plentiful use of both smoke and artillery barrages. Entrenched enemies are seriously difficult to remove but they are much weaker after an artillery barrage. Let your main battle tanks soak up the damage and don't be afraid to retreat your units often! They're available again pretty quickly. I hope that helps for now :)

As someone who sucks at this kind of 'realistic military RTS', the regiment is unique but can be frustrating. With bigger budget games like Steel Division II, the problem is more in range finding - there is just a milimetre on your screen between your tank destroying the enemy just right outside their anti-tank weapon, or you losing the tank to a cheap infantry unit. With Regiment, my biggest frustration is with the "dug-in" mechanic. It is realistic that a well dug in enemy is basically the worst kind of enemy you want to attack, but couple that with the mission giving you very limited number of units that carry through to next phases and the fact that your enemies and even your allies are having seemingly unlimited spawn every few minutes, it becomes a stupidly pointless attempt to drive your unit forward to the objective instead of letting your free allies as meat shield for your artillery instead. It maybe realistic (Ukraine vs Russia is an artillery battle), but it makes a sloughfest of 15 minutes phases where victory is unlikely. It is okay for this game to be slow paced, but when you have unlimited spawning enemy scenarios, it becomes pointless - most of my phases have like 200 enemies killed and 2 of my unit killed but since I only have 9 unit per card for the entire campaign, I ended up with no unit at the end of the campaign after 5-6 phases. The campaign design seriously need more work.
@twiglets22 ай бұрын
@@whartanto2 I haven't come across this myself but perhaps you are playing at a higher level of difficulty than me? Undoubtedly there is more work for them to do in terms of balance and general tweaking, but would you say they have a decent core product and it's just a case of tweaking it now?
@whartanto22 ай бұрын
@@twiglets2 The game has 2 major advantages: it is cheap (25% of the price of WarNo in my region) and it is unique (slow-paced, entrenchment, heavy dependence on artillery and smoke to outflank well-dug in enemies). For people who love 'realistic' combat ala Ukraine vs Russia without Himars, it definitely will be very fun for them. Given the low low price even without sales, it is definitely worth buying.

Does it have active pause? Can you issue orders during the pause or at least select units and look at the different parts of the map, like in Gates of Hell?
@WorkwithMe2872 ай бұрын
It does. Because its a single player only game, you can pause and issue orders any time you want and take your time looking at the map strategizing and such. As a mainly turn based wargaming fan, i dislike the faster paced style of rts. But with this, its almost like a hybrid since you can take all the time you want and pause whenever. Highly recommend.

These games look great in the promotional videos. The problem is you can’t really play them zoomed in to enjoy the graphics. In order to exercise proper control of units you’ll need to be zoomed out to the extent you’ll really be looking at unit icon markers and very small 3D units on the map.

@luggilu786414 күн бұрын
Imo the game is a lot of missed potential. Steel division 2 did it right, being more focused and its battles taking place on a somewhat smaller scale. The battles in regiments are way too big for the time they occupy. A war at that scale shouldnt have multiple villages next to each other changing hands multiple times in the span of minutes. So a fight for one or two of them would feel a lot more believable. Unit movement also feels awkwardly fast if you ask me, and i am no fan at all of the new capzone system compared to SD2s frontline system. It just makes more sense to have a frontline that you are trying to push forward or hold. If you are cut off from your own lines, that objective is basically useless as you cant calitalize on it. The new capture sectors cause you to basically neglect the areas in-between aside from getting flanked. I also find the platoon choices fro armored vehicles incredibly frustrating. The fact that you cannot move an individual tank but only its group feels unrewarding. You cannot use the platoons option to spread out and overwhelm an enemy, and they basically just serve the same purpose as a single unit with more hitpoints gameplay wise. So i think it was incredibly misguided to add this platoon feature without integrating it into the gameplay. So id say, if you want to play a slight graphical update to Wargame Red Dragon, its likely for you. But if you saw that the devs behind this also made SD2 and expect the same quality you'll be disappointed

@twiglets22 ай бұрын
@@ninochaosdrache3189 if you're going to try this kind of tactical rts game then regiments is the one to try. There is a small learning curve at the beginning which you can basically get over by using cover and smoke to increase your units survivability. I played a pirated copy of the game, here's how I describe the experience: The game exceeded all of my expectations, when I first looked at this I thought "Oh wow another sloppy clone of Wargame: Red Dragon with more obnoxious micro? Sign me the fuck up", and then I played the game and I was surprised how polarizing it was: The units tend to NOT instantly die the moment they meet the enemy, unlike in WARNO or Wargame: Red Dragon Tanks and Recon vehicles AREN'T horribly overpowered against infantry, mechanized or otherwise ((HEAVILY DEPENDENT ON ENGAGEMENT CIRCUMSTANCES)IF YOU TRY PUSHING TANKS WITH MECH INFANTRY IN THE OPEN YOU'RE GONNA GET SHREKT). Damage to units and vehicles is modeled ala Company of Heroes, each model has it's own healthpool to draw from, whereas the "durability" of the unit represents total healthpool between "models" in a formation (I don't know if it's the same for Infantry). Units under fire from other units units/artillery strikes become suppressed as the fight/bombardment goes on significantly reducing that unit's effectiveness, and in a game where units are strongest when standing still in entrenched positions it makes fire support that much more significant in assault actions. Generous Retreat: If a unit retreats and travels a certain distance it saves itself and you only have to redeploy that unit after a typically short reinforcement & resupply timer, you do not have to wait until it travels ALL the way back to the deployment zone, some units (typically tanks and IFV infantry) have anti-IR smoke countermeasures wich makes certain attacks against the retreating unit sensibly less likely to hit, while Air units like Helicopters get IR countermeasures to give them a bigger window to NOT get destroyed by enemy MANPADS and missile SPADS. Overall I REALLY like how this game plays compared to other wargames.
