If you only consider technological invention as real invention, well could you tell me please who invented the wheel? Or who was the first man that thought that friction of 2 combustible materials could make fire, or from where were the first people who thought that using stones one could shape another to make and arrow or spike or whatever you want to called it?. Come on really? Good inventions came only from European and Western Civilization???, I will tell you a secret many discoveries, and inventions where develop at almost the same time in different parts of the world, and many where developed for other people, but someone else patented it or stole the idea, and some other people likeLászló József Bíró, who was European but lived in my South American country, could develop and improve his invention only here in my country , and with his partner Jorge Meyne (he was a Jew that had to scrape from war and also ended in my Argentina), they invented la birome, in English a ballpoint pen

If racism is the systematic disadvantaging of a race by another race so that one race (white) has better life chances because of their race than another race (black) then it's impossible for the race oppressed by discrimination (black) to oppress their oppressors. In real life you can't be over someone and say they are over you at the same time. Well you can say it but it can't be true. No matter how much someone doesn't want to acknowledge unearned privilege. Anyone telling me that my slave ancestor and white people who could own slaves were ... all a little bit racist is full of it.
@Okay_Is_Wonderful4 жыл бұрын
@@thx1138sixnine Respectfully, that was not my intent. I'm also not naive enough to pretend I'm perfectly woke either. Racism isn't constrained to blacks/whites and the African slave trade. White people can't even make up their mind who to include, if one looks back to how Irish and Italian folks were treated. Hate crimes toward Asians are out of control right now. And I've got a black coworker with some nasty attitudes toward Mexicans. Jews, Asians, Arabs, Hispanics, etc. - there's cultural messaging and hurtful stereotypes we all absorb about the "other," and you don't have to run off and join the Klan for those prejudices to guide you into harmful actions. Someone may not be consciously racist, but oppose immigration reform or affirmative action or [insert policy here] they see as "special treatment." They don't have to realize it to be effectively supporting discrimination. Racism is wrong and damaging whether it comes from hate OR ignorance. One is more likely to be curable, tho. When we simply get defensive instead of introspective, we never fix those blind spots. If we are willing to listen and learn from other's perspectives, we can start healing those divides. That's my hope, at least. Peace to you

I’m from Iowa, moved to NY as an adult to experience real diversity and life, and I can honestly say......I was raised racist. Everyone was...including other races/cultures of people. Example...a family of kids went to my school and their father was black, mom white. They were “exotic”, cool to hang with but not date or invite to slumber parties. And even they rejected black people via racist jokes, refusing to associate with other black people from other schools. Same with a Mexican family that went to my school.....they were vicious racists against migrant workers who came yearly to work in the fields. But, absolutely no one felt like a racist. Honestly, I can’t believe the truly secret racism I grew up with.....it’s so obvious and cruel but it was never acknowledged as racism. It was “acceptable” and life. I dated a black man when I moved to NY and I remember being terrified my family or any of my friends in Iowa (school pals) would find out and I’d be 100% cut off from everyone I grew up with. What a chicken-shlt I was. That racism is deep when you grow up as that being normal and anything else is unacceptable or a basic deadly sin. Can we stop allowing Iowa to be such a major influence on our politics? I say yes.

To quote a ficticious character (played by Bill Murray) out of context, "We're mutts!" Part of our strength as a nation is that we are a varied and nuanced collection of ideals, ethnicities, nationalities, heritages, backgrounds, and groups of all kinds. Also, if you want to bash immigrants, just remember that your ancestors probably immigrated to what is currently the United States of America. Maybe not your parents, your grand parents, or even your great grand parents, but most, if not all, of us could find immigrants if we went far enough back through our family tree. demeaning immigrants is always a double edged sword, dripping with hypocrisy. Finally, the whole world has contributed to get humanity to where we are as a species. The good and the bad.
@Razzy13125 жыл бұрын
I think any rational person would agree with that. What a lot of us want is to get immigration back under control, not to stop it. What we don't want is the same situation that is occurring in Europe. Europe is experiencing a wave of economic migrants that want the economic/social benefits of living in that nation but have little intention of integrating or respecting that nation and its peoples. Europe has opened its border and let in far more immigrants than they can process and assist in a timely manner and this has created communities of immigrants that have been left in a chaotic and directionless state. This has caused a spike in crime. The biggest issue for Europe though will be dealing with the unreasonably high percentage of immigrants that show no intentions of culturally integrating. The more Europe continues to appease them by catering to them (there's communities in Europe now allowed to enforce Sharia law even) the more of them will come. I'm all for letting just about anyone in, but I want to make sure they show a desire to become American and adopt a new culture as well as bringing their own. I live in Southern California and the sad fact is it's somewhat common for a hispanic/latino person to identify with their "mother nation" over the U.S and even actively dislike or hate the U.S. The reality is we also need to limit the amount we allow in so as not to encourage large caravans trying to mass immigrate into the country all at once. Taking in too many people too quickly will only have negative consequences. If you let one caravan in, the caravans will only get larger with the years. At the same time, we need to do more to improve the system and assist those who do wish to immigrate here.

Europe wasn't even the agressor but is sensible enough to know that you can't control or send back migrating people. Every human being goes nuts when everything is lost. So instead of spending billions on controlling and fighting other countries you could educate the world for a fraction of that money. All your selfmade problems with immigrants would shrink and the world would admire you for that.

Part of this guy's problem is the way history books in our country are written and how education is administered. When most books disproportionately only focus on the accomplishments of your people, nation, race or religion; You walk away thinking that everything was mainly established by your people, nation, race, or religion. If you don't at least challenge what you're taught to know and believe, you may never see the world for what it truly is.

@@captainsmoke1612 Dude I really don't know why you seem so upset. I never said anything about white people being evil. I don't believe white people are evil. Do you believe that. Why are you talking about slavery or black history. Why is that the 1st thing that comes to mind for you? Is it because you saw a picture of a black man next to my comment. What I said is just natural if you're not exposed to wide range of history or don't challenge anything you are ever taught in pursuit of the truth. The type of thinking this politician has isn't segregated by race or gender. Anyone who hasn't broadened their educational horizons are possibly subject to his way of thinking. You seem predisposed to race when my comment wasn't directed towards any race or gender.
@leatherjacket95 жыл бұрын
@Coq Au Vein the country does go out of it's way to speak about the accomplishments of black people and other minorities because of the disproportionate and skewed representation that history has had in the U.S. for years. Black history month isn't observed everywhere in the country, so even though it was observed where you live doesn't mean it was everywhere else. I'm sure though that you appreciate learning about anyone that had a tremendous effect on history no matter what their race, gender, religion, and culture... Just as I do.

Before we all celebrate that Steve King is gone, it's important to note that he didn't lose because people condemned his racist remarks. The Republican opponents painted him as a do-nothing politician after he was stripped of committee assignments, and he would put a safe R seat at risk. So it's great that he's gone, but it's not because Republican voters disapproved of his comments.

No, it's exactly because people disapproved of his comments. I should know because I live in his district. He had 2 Republican challengers for seat. @@isakbd3450 Europeans at the time were behind. It wasn't till the 1400s till the European world started to recover. They couldn't win any crusade so they thought to trade with India to get their money up. Accidentally discovered something that was already discovered by the Chinese in the Americas (but the Chinese were so rich and powerful at the time they became isolationist) and the natives were even more technologically behind than Europeans. Take into account the fact that before other civilizations went into dark age European Civilization they didn't have guns, the numerical system we currently use, the paper we currently use, a lot of foods that we currently eat, they wouldn't have preserved their own history which is true at the time Europeans outside of certain countries and specifically certain cities like Florence, Paris, London weren't interested in preserving their history and focused on healing their sick and trying to overcome their financial failures which they didn't do without Islamic and Chinese intervention. Spain specifically was entirely taken over by Muslims who preserved their culture and contributions to society until they were forcibly removed by at the time Radical Catholics. While it's true that today the situation in the Middle East is dramatically different the Middle East has only been that way for about 80 years meanwhile the situation in Europe was the way it was for nearly 700. We didn't completely heal as a society will the 1700s and other countries didn't deteriorate till that time as well. We didn't see the complete fall of China, Japan, India till the 1800s-1900s and that didn't last very long either Japan, China, India all became advanced societies again rather quickly. And Japan never actually got taken over like most failed societies. And we didn't see the fall of Islam begin till the 1920s and didn't see it complete till the 70s. Which itself was mostly orchestrated by the United States and England which is well documented. It's universally agreed that if Western Society didn't purposely destabilize nation in the Middle East that it would've recovered in fact you can look up how proggressive and advanced places like Iraq were in the 20s most feminist ideals actually came from there which reversed when we put radical islamist in power so we could get better oil deals in the 50s. I have a feeling you have a very Eurocentric idea of history which is fine. European ideals have been dominate since the 1800s. But we're seeing another Eastern culture shift. Japan, China, Korea, and India are dominating popular culture and economic society by extent. All those countries are getting more and more advanced and contributing more advances to culture and society by the year. Soon we'll see a Oricentric historical view we won't be alive for it but our childrens children will. And there's nothing wrong with that. Not being able to admit the fault in Euro-history and Euro-Expansionism is a problem that tends to lead toward (repeatedly might I add) the fall and failure of western society. You have to remember that the Western world has the shortest golden ages of any other world and it's mostly due to our own hubris. Our writers consistently warn us of our short comings with books like Lord of the flies, 1982, and Fahrenheit 451. Even the lord of the rings, metro and cyberpunk series are soft commentaries on the idea of Western superiority and the fall that it brings in many ways repeatedly.
@organizedopinions80685 жыл бұрын
@@isakbd3450 where did I say that and you clearly need to read as history book. China was aware of the the Americas since the 500s. China decided that isolationism was best for them. Most of the contributions to society that led to the rise of Western society came from Eastern society. By the way without Expansionism western society would've never became as great as it is currently. Which again it's ignorant to act as if western society is the best society it's only been dominate since the 1800s and is not really dominante anymore. To act as if China, Ottoman, India, Iraq, Egypt, Ethiopia, Myan, Aztec, Japan, Korea, and so on and so forth were never great is exactly the things that keep leading to our failures. Take a hint from Japan they were great for so long they became isolationist didn't develope with the rest of the world America and England knock on their door to visit and colonize them but instead of being to prideful to recognize their downfall they go okay let's take their ideas build upon it and kick them out our country soon after they're a world power an industrialist nation haven't been colonized are colonizing everyone else. Then in the 80s they're an economy rivialing the United States and now in current year they're the cultural epicenter of the world in entertainment replacing Hollywood and by extent America in that role. The fact that you can't recognize that societies take turns at the top is ridiculous and shows the point I'm making to be true. It's not like Donald Trump handed China a head start on the next fuel industry. It's not like we have a dying culture hold on the world. It's not like our economy is no longer top dog. I guess we'll just keep the mediocrity up and be suprised when we lose our place at the top it's not like most of Europe is poor and America is a failing debted economy.

@@isakbd3450 I care more about the success of our society than pleabians like you. You've demonstrated clear lack of historical knowledge a non-existent grasp on the social political world and a refusal to accept our current economic state. We've dominated the past 200 years so I guess that means we're just going to continue to dominate without bettering ourselves it's not like we already hold less clout in the UN which we invented than China. It's not like Europe is currently economically distablized and America is in a cultural civil war. It's not like India and Bangladesh are rapidly rising and refusing to pay commerence to England and other debters showing how weak western society is currently. It's not like Japan and Korea are the most popular cultures in the world the tourist capitals and it's not like the Chinese are strongest economy in the world. It's not like every golden age ends. Jeez man you really opened my eyes to the fact that western society has always been the dominate one. It's never been any other society. Every medical, scientific, and cultural advancement is clearly Western no other society has ever contributed anything or lead the world ever. Ignorant people like you make me laugh and also profoundly sad. Ironically you will lead to the fall of our beautiful society.

Stevie King isn't a Valedictorian either, he also dropped out of college after he was safe from being drafted. I don't care about the Muslims working in pork factories (I'm not into pork really either), just want it inspected and the production regulated by the USDA . Actually many middle eastern cultures contributed to our language, science and math etc.
