Having Jeff being added as a main character pretty early in the run probably gave the writers a leg up over other shows adding new characters cause they knew how to handle it correctly (not to mention neither was a way to revive a dying show)

considering in the TBS preview we see Roger reunite with his dad so I think that the episode could mean that Roger's child might be referenced or in a twist Rogers dad is actually Roger's kid impersonating his grandad to get close to Roger.

I agree with you on two things: 1. Rogu is awesome and should appear more. In other shows, when they introduce a new character, they are annoying and kinda unlikable (Chloe Carmichael), but Rogu works in this case. He is adorable, he's not being overused, like he is the new star of the show. They are slowly building him up, from small cameos to "necessary for the plot" appearances like what they did with Jeff in the earlier seasons. 2. Billy is annoying. I like the idea of him. I liked that he appeared once as a means of showing how unhinged the doctor Steve went to to become taller is. But he often overstays his welcome. He fits better in one minute appearances. I don't like his voice, i don't like his character. Whenever he makes an appearance to deliver a punchline, I am like "Okay, you made your punchline. We get it. You're weird. Your father's weird. Byyyeeee."

Part of the reason Rogu hasn’t appeared as much as people would like him to has to do with Dee Bradley Baker’s availability. For anyone that doesn’t know he does a lot of voice work for Star Wars and voices all of the clone troopers in their animated projects. Since Rogu’s debut Dee Bradley Baker did Star Wars the clone wars season 7, tales of the Jedi, and the bad batch for Star Wars, all shows where he voices multiple different characters that are series leads so he wasn’t as available for American Dad

I do think most people just do not understand Rogu. Yes he is a "baby version" of a beloved character. Yes he is an ET-esque alien companion. Yes he is almost entirely comic relief, even in the setting of a comedic cartoon. But combining these overused archetypes together is in itself really funny satire imo just showing off how stupid it is that such archetypes exist, and doing that makes Rogu stand out as a unique take on each of them. He never is annoying as ANY of those concepts, and is used sparingly enough that he never overstays his welcome
