A very interesting part about Richard is the fact that crossdressing is a fairly consistent part of his character. Like that one time in the episode where Darwin becomes a dictator and overthrows the town, and they have to distract a guard to get into the complex, and Richard dresses up as an attractive woman, only to just throw a fire hydrant at the guard. And when asked why he had to dress up as a woman, he just says “so I can do this” and literally spins so his skirt can go spinny. You know, this show was a lot stranger than I remember, and a lot more queer.

Gumball isn't perfect, but I love how there is a lot of gender-norm breaking, and anytime Gumball or Darwin are made fun of for "feminine" things they either clap back or at the very least the show makes it clear that those teasing them are in the wrong. One of Gumball and Darwin's favourite games when they were around 5 or 6 was princess. There mom is also the money maker in the family, loves among other things karate, and sometimes hulks out and beats people up. One of my favourite moments from the dad is immediately after gumball is born he holds him to his chest while Nicole rests and feeds Gumball by taping a cartoon of milk with a straw to his chest, there are many ways he could have fed him or not at all and just wait for Nicole to wake up, but he decided to do it in a way that was closest to natural for a new born baby.

Under the surface, Gumball is a very LGBT+ positive show. There are a lot of gags where characters will imply that they're attracted to someone of the same gender, but it never feels like the punchline is just "gay people funny." There's also the iconic joke where love is being described, showing a cute animation of a man and a woman experiencing signs of attraction, before they run past each other into the arms of another man and another woman. The show then proclaims there are no rules to love, so they dance instead.
@godslaughter9 ай бұрын
I mean this with utmost love AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Finally, my time has come. I love this show so much, I think the reason why it works so well is because the fuckery is taken to such an extent that the most comfortable aren't safe, and the show is overall very inclusive. The dress episode is "eh, it's alright" in my opinion, but they significantly improved their writing afterwards. It's pretty obvious how far they really wanted to go with the inclusion of funny queer topics and punchlines which are never looked down upon, Richard is a crossdressing queen, Leslie is very likely a gay fashion icon, Gumball I think is canonically pansexual, the episodes with the Hot Dog Guy were purposefully written with gay undertones, Gumball is also obsessed with Rob, his nemesis, which also has gay undertones (there's a whole episode in which Gumball acts like he's being dumped by Rob after he had started searching for a better "guy to hate", the writers also have this ongoing meta joke regarding Gumball and Darwin being in a brolationship but some people took it far and they even included Gumwin ships, it's hysterical. The show is chaos. So far I remember: Richard crossdresses in the episode where Darwin freaks out over safety and creates a totalitarian regime in which nothing dangerous can happen (censorship, proofing, etc), Richard dresses as a "hot elf" for a roleplaying session (?), Richard crossdresses to become "man mom" in the episode where Gumball's alternate identity takes over because he found out about his real name (Zack) and is having an internal fight over it, and he also has an entire episode dedicated to him where he crossdresses alongside other crossdressing men who wanna hang out together in drag. There is likely something else that I am forgetting.

Video Idea: Trans characters in Undertale/Deltarune There are plenty of trans characters in both games with very positive representation I’d love to see your take on them!
@TheFakeJake_UwU9 ай бұрын
I mean, I guess? But the point of the series is that we're supposed to feel surprised that there's a trans episode, or aspect, of a series It's about queer people, in not necessarily queer media What you're proposing wouldn't really fit, wouldn't it? Idk, "The gay episode of Steven Universe" wouldn't really be that shocking of a title
@IcyDiamond9 ай бұрын
@@TheFakeJake_UwU That’s actually a really fair point, honestly I kinda headcanon that the reason Mettaton is so embarrassed about his ghost past is because of his fear of people judging him, which could be an interesting narrative to dissect imo
@spongewaffle9 ай бұрын
As a UT/DR fan, I absolutely love that idea, especially with characters like Mad mew mew, mettaton, and to some extent kris
@woodykrska99479 ай бұрын
Yeah, there are more queer characters in those games than their are cis-hets. There’s Alphys, Undyne, Kris, Frisk, Chara, Susie, Noelle, The Mad Mew Mew, Monster Kid, Napstablook, The knights, and (probably) Mettaton.

You should check out the Pound Puppies episode "There's Something About Camelia". Being a dog that identifies as a cat isn't exactly trans... but the episode reads as being about the struggles of a closeted kid.

Yeah, ya never covered the ones I emailed ya about! Penny's character is such a trans allegory that I'm disappointed you didn't cover em. Maybe a part 2, some time in the future? Loved the video tho. That dress looks really cute on ya. c:

I'm glad someone agrees with my transfem Gumball headcanon! I'm pretty sure they're also bi/pan. He seems to genuinely really like his girlfriend Penny, but there's also the tension between him and Hot Dog Guy, his obvious infatuation for his nemesis Rob, and the fact that he once kissed a dude onscreen. There's even a joke where his classmates are making bets on his sexuality. There is nothing Cis or Het about Gumball Watterson.

4:12 To be fair, I remember feeling the same way as at that age. Most of the time when they call off sick, you know they're going to recover in time. Might as well enjoy the day off! A lot of students will get very serious and concerned when they hear a teacher is hospitalized, though. I think that's reasonable. Not complaining, just sharing my thoughts as I watch.

Show Suggestion: Quark (1977, TV Series). A short-lived (8 episodes) US sci-fi sitcom series, parodying Star Trek and other sci-fi. One of the regular supporting characters was “Gene/Jean” and I’m just going to quote wikipedia: “Gene/Jean is a ‘transmute’, a humanoid being with a complete set of both male and female chromosomes. He/she serves as the ship's engineer.” All the episodes are available on KZbin at the moment.

The comments you showed at the end are so funny, because you always see those same types of guys claim that any gay/trans character is "headcanon" or "a reach" but meanwhile they have to literally reverse engineer the entire themes of a media's writing to come to the conclusion that it's "based anti trans" rhetoric. I can't imagine being that illiterate.
