We all have heard someone say that Running can damage your knees. How much truth is there in this statement?
Well, due to its high-impact nature, running places significant force and torque on your joints. Overweight individuals are particularly at risk, as the added weight increases the stress on their knees. All this wear and tear can indeed damage your knees if you don't make your running decisions judiciously.
Beginners with a normal weight can also experience knee issues if they start running too long and too often without proper conditioning. Inadequate flexibility and lack of a warm-up routine can negatively impact the scenario.
To make running safer and part of your lifestyle you can adopt the following precautions:
1. Start Slowly:
Gradually increase your distance and intensity to build strength and endurance. The principle of Progressive overload is true for running too.
2. Wear Proper Shoes:
Invest in good-quality running shoes that provide adequate support and cushioning. This can protect your joints from avoidable strain and prolong their life.
3. Warm-Up and Cool Down:
Always warm up before running and cool down afterward to prevent injuries. Most people undermine the importance of these steps. Don't be one of these people.
4. Strength Training:
Incorporate strength training exercises to build the muscles around your knees. It is the best way to enhance your performance and minimize the chances of injury by strengthening the muscles responsible for stabilizing and supporting your knees.
5. Listen to Your Body:
Pay attention to any pain or discomfort and take rest days as needed. You know your body better than anyone else. Be honest with yourself and take a day or two off if you think it helps you in recovery.
Implementing these steps will not only prevent any injuries or pain, but it will also prolong the health of your knees for the future so you don't have to deal with worn-out or limitedly functional knees.

My dad works in the army, and to be honest, he’s the reason why I'm so fit. Since we were 10 and 12, he made my younger brother and me run kilometers. Now, at 23 and 25, we’ve never felt any pain in our knees or joints. My brother runs half marathons, and I can easily run a full marathon without much fatigue. Running isn’t harmful to your knees; being overweight is the real problem. Try to reduce weight and start running. Believe me, running is much more fun than walking for hours. You break your own records, and the adrenaline rush from running can't be matched.

I use to run 5-8 km 4 days a week from the last 8 years I never had any knee or ankle injury ever Drilling, stretching,warm up,cool down proper nutrition & recovery is very important

You don't need to be a doctor to understand the fundamentals of lifestyle disorders. As far as my experience has been, it was not only running, but also changes in your nutrition. No, he rans improperly. as an ex-runner for a railway job I can say his running technique will hurt knees. weight impact can be minimized using toe running and lleg fingers as a suspension to minimize impact.(first hit the smallest finger then second small then 3'rd then 4th and5th at the same time then lower your toe, and finally touch your heel on the ground). never do heel first run, it will hurt knee 100%

@@MokshBatra I've been running since 7,8 years.. There was starting time when I used to run 5 km under 22 mints.. But now getting older nd m nearing 30,I've slowed down a bit and now focusing on weight training also. U can use Kalenji (from decathlon)shoes for running, I find it affordable, light weight nd durable

This video tried to debunk the myth without actually debunking the myth. Running any distance (for beginners and even mildly overweight people) will not damage the knees because natural form of running doesn't effect knees. Problem is not running, but running with sneakers or modern day shoes, because most of the shoes are not flexible enough near midfoot and front foot and has a high heel (those cushioning that is not required for average people) - those heel cushions and non-flexible front end of shoes is unnecessarily pushing modern day humans to run with heel strike like they are walking. This has become so mythical that modern humans argue that without shoes people cannot run middle or long distance and also argue that natural form of jogging and running should be done with heel strike.

Relaxa guy's it's a myth. Bhai mai ek track athlete hu. Mujhe 12 year's ho gye athletics mai. Aur mai bilkul fit hu aur. Aur maine milkha singh ji ko bhi running karte dekha hai in 2014 in chandigarh and mai oldest marathon runner baba fauja singh ji ko dekha in 2018 in ludhiana. Aur vo us age's mai bhi bilkul fit the. Rahi bat knee pain ki to wo kud ki galati aur injuries ki wajhe se bhi ho skti hai. Jese ki proper warm up, cool down stretching, mobilities exercises, dusro se compare karke ego fast running karna without proper technique & foam, proper nutrition nahi lena, sunlight avoid krna, road sides & concrete aur hard surfaces par Running krna, aur proper rest nahi krna. In karno ki wajhe se knee pain aur injuries aa skti hai.

Bhai running se esi koi problem nahi hoti normally, aur bhai boht jyada running koi ese bhi nh kr skta. Body ko uski limit pta hoti hai, koi overweight hoga to uski body hi bta degi ki use kitna bhagna hai. Body boht samjhdaar hai, use sab pta hota hai. I am 29 and doctors in Canada don’t know what’s wrong with my knees.. they did ultrasound and xray they couldn’t find anything. My legs do pain sometimes and which makes me anxious coz I think what’s wrong with it. There is swelling behind my knees, they say it is normal it is not swelling.

I am an ex-athlete, running is the best thing you can do for your body. If you want to loose fat or for normal fitness i suggest “Run in conversational pace” its way more effective, safe and good for heart health. And moreover after running completion walk relax for some time to let your body cool down. Do stretches to avoid muscle pain or minor injuries.

If someone is overweight, i think they should do jogging at a conversational pace (the speed where you can have conversation with someone without running out of breath) (aik aur shorts se sunna hai bhai) Still i am no expert so do at your own risk
