I completely agree about the imagination vs special effects. I watched 1944’s The Uninvited as an adult years ago and it creeped me out so bad I couldn’t sleep that night. So much of the movie uses your imagination. I haven’t seen it in years but I still remember the parts that unnerved me the most. I think that says a lot about a movie that wasn’t made with today’s technology.

My wife and I watched it. I actually turned to her and said “are they being campy and cheesy on purpose?” Apparently no, they were not lol. 💙 - Brittany

I still wanna watch the original Salem's lot. It's been on my watchlist for years. one day.

I have read quite a few Stephen King books and I love em. For years I didn’t want to read anything else. I do need to watch some more of the series and movies though. I am sorta interested in this one but I’m not very into horror films somehow lol. Weird. It is hard to make a movie or show from a king book because those books are dense and it’s hard to fit it all in.

I don’t know why, but I’ve been hesitant to watch this movie. I’ve pulled it up a few times then ended up not watching it. But I know the story, so I don’t care about spoilers, and I came over here to watch your review! I’m going to watch it eventually. I relate to what you said about the window scene in the original Salem’s Lot being scary for the time period! That’s my thought on a lot of things, like you have to take the time period into account to really understand things. That window scene might not be so scary to a teenage viewer today, but in the 70s/80s that not so saturated and it was really one of a kind!

It was scary as hell! That’s what I always think of!!!!

I haven’t seen the new Salems Lot but have it on my radar. I had a feeling it wouldn’t be that impressive but still fun to watch I suppose. Not a fan of remakes. Love the original Carrie (remake doesn’t hold a candle), heard there may be a remake of Christine. I love the nostalgia of the ones I grew up with, the OG’s. The Shining, The Exorcist, The Omen, IT (Tim Curry is the best!). Halloween truly is my favorite! Happy Haunting Peter!

I will watch both with my husband! I have never seen either. We recently just watched the original fright night and then the remake. I felt the same way that you did about salems lot. Not terrible but cannot hold to the original especially with the effects; very well done. Thanks for review 💙💙😘😘😘 give Mr. Boo Radley my love too!

Totally agree, the scariest thing I had seen before the original was scooby doo. Then boy in the window was the stuff of nightmares, fabulous!

Salem’s Lot (2024) was a fun movie. I very much enjoyed it. To the extent that it felt rushed, I blame the decision to reduce a complex story to under two hours. My sense is that they’ll release a 3-hour version which will connect more effectively with audiences. Hope they do that.

To me, this version of Salem's Lot played like a YA version of an old-school vampire flick... Something like Fright Night for teens. I didn't feel it was a necessary remake, but we now have it anyway, so... yeah. And yes, "a caricature of the original" is a great way of summing it up. And I got Super 8 vibes, too. I checked out Caddo Lake, and thought it was absolutely terrible, IMO. And Strange Darling is one of the best movies I've seen this year. ✌🏻 Regardless of certain things being predictable, other twists weren't. And I had so much fun watching the performances. (Oh, and if you've never read a Stephen King book, and want to, the first two I'd personally recommend would be either Bag of Bones or Desperation. They're both great.) ✌🏻💛

I thought it had some creepy moments, for example the woodland scene where you only see the silhouettes and the kidnapper creeping up behind them. I enjoyed it, but the bad reviews have encouraged me to buy the audiobook and i am watching the original tonight.

You mentioned the “Terrifier” trilogy in this video. I beyond loathe clowns and yet after watching the first I am anxious to see more! A perfect addition to my nightmares. I am curious on what you think is the scariest clown movie, if you have an opinion… I always felt that “Attack of the Killer Klowns” really solidified my fears even though it was perhaps the most camp clown movie ever. What movie do you think makes for the scariest clown movie?

Its hard to put kings books into tv or movie version as well because 60% of the books is inner monologue or thought process / explanation so it doesnt transform on tv screen. In my opinion of course. I love kings books but hate every adaption. Maybe shining movie stands as exception but its because the way it was filmed by kubrick and actors knew what they went for
