Al hail the bug queen. One of my favorite MID-MONSTERS. Such a unique and original fight! And that STORY MODE SHAGARU MAGALA fight is amongst my favorite fights in the concept of PRESENTATION! It’s a fight to the death, not between Hunter and Monster, BUT 2 RIVALS that have crashed against each other! Such a perfect FINALE for this story.

Impact Charge Blade has insane KO potential. It's definitely one of the reasons why 4U CB shreds and puts everything else in the dust.

Just a heads up, make sure you're aware of what Phial type you're using if it's Element. Since Element Phials deal 100% elemental damage, if you're hitting the wrong part of a monster or are using a bad element against the monster, your phials will deal litetally 0 damage. Like against Rathalos in the footage, you're using Fire, so your phials were probably doing little to no damage that whole hunt. I'd just stick to Impact. Keep it simple. :)

Impact CB is goated weaponry in 4U. When you finally learn how to guard point it will allow impact CBs to just style on monsters that much more. Charged shield + guard point give blocked attacks a lil charged burst that inflicts KO damage. It's such a great feeling to KO Diablos with a guard point as he charges at you. Glad you enjoyed the story so much. 4U is a fantastic adventure.

Word of caution: To get the gold checkmark in 6-star Low Rank quests you actually need to reach High Rank in the hub, which will start unlocking a few postgame village quests that are actually high-rank but solo (you can tell because the quest requirements will say something like "HR4 or higher" despite being solo not multiplayer). Speaking as a MH4U main, you _never_ forget that showdown with village Shagaru. I was running Dear Lutemis CB, Najarala armor and was two carts down (and on my first try) when we finally emerged victorious. It was all the better compared to the _huge_ number of carts I had against Gore Magala before it. It helps to save your SAED until you have phials glowing red, that way after unloading the SAED you can _immediately_ recharge some phials (and optionally the shield). Now for some fun facts! - The Rathian nest in Ancestral Steppe can also get damaged/tilted by monster attacks. - Next time you are in Heaven's Mount, look up on the western side of the Rath nest and you can spot a rare mining node out of reach. You actually _can_ get to it, but only if...? - The final achievement in the "G-rank" awards page actually records whether you started MH4U directly, or imported your save file from base MH4 (which was Japan only). This is why it got unlocked for free. Every _other_ awards page can be filled without the Dundorma story arc or G-rank hunts. - For the most part, monsters you find in the Everwood will ONLY EVER appear in the Everwood. This includes Velocidrome, Yian Kut-Ku, Yian Garuga, Basarios, and a few more. So if you ever want to "farm" anything related to these monsters you will need to receive a "Guild Quest" (investigation) via doing Expeditions in the Everwood. - Be on the lookout for any Wild Palicoes with "Team Attack Boost" as a skill. (Which is not the same as the "Team Attack+" skill)

You have the same type of completionist/awards in GU. In the 5th gen, we don't have the percentage per city obviously, but we do have the completionist badges. Sunrise definitely has them, I can't remember if worldborn did though, but big chances are it did.

Guard points, or GP for short, is a major part of the CB, especially in a slower moving game like 4U where you can't move out of the way fast enough for a lot of the attacks. It may seem hard to execute, but trust me when I say once you understand what to do, you can GP a monsters attacks and punish them for it. It's also part of the reason why CB is an absolute monster at getting KOs in 4U.

Guard point essentially refers to a few frames you have when you swap between modes, where your shield is infront of your hunter and will actually block attacks. What's more, if you have charged your shield, then it will actually do a little counter explosion if you get hit.

8:12 Yup. This is why Shagaru was such an awesome fight here, and really underwhelming in Rise. Presentation matters a lot. This is why I always want these elder dragons to be on arena style maps. And wyvern riding ruins any majestic elder dragon that it works on, though I guess it just makes any monster seem pathetic.

I'm glad you're enjoying the story. They really knocked it out of the park with this game's story. Charged Shield: This will remove the chip damage that goes through your blocks. Before 4U, there were 2 shield types - S&S and Lance. In 4U, an uncharged shield is equivalent to S&S, a charged shield is equivalent to the Lance shield. This has been changed in the current generation, however. Guard points: These are small windows during your animations where your shield is in front of you, allowing you to block mid-animation. The most reliable one is right at the start of your S&S to Axe transformation. Guard points will reduce the knockback and chip damage for your shield. If your shield is charged, it will also deal damage to the monster at the point of the block. The other benefit of blocking via guard points is you can go directly from the block into an AED or SAED, bypassing the first 2 axe attacks. Impact vs Element phials: Element phials do elemental damage and interact with the monster's resistances. Impact does "bomb" damage that is static, ignores resistances and armor, and does stun damage so enough impact phials to the head will stun the monster. A charged shield that does damage (through the shield thrust, or guard points) will deal this stun damage as well. In the current generation, Elemental phials are very very strong, but in the old world, impact is king. It does more damage, is not monster reliant and does nearly as much stun damage as a hammer.

Another neat thing you can do on the walls you climb in 4U is attack with your knife. I actually KILLED a Red Khezu with a knife strike that way one time. I’m thankful to see that you appreciated the final showdown with Shagaru Magala and acknowledge the importance of experiencing that BEFORE Sunbreak. Indeed, when I saw content creators like you or Cotton run into it in Sunbreak as your first experience, I felt bad. The gravity of the monster is somewhat established by the description, but it doesn’t compare to the relationship you build with it over the course of this journey in 4U, and that’s the emotional context for most veteran hunters that have played Sunbreak.

A quarter point occurs when you first switch into the axe mode and the shield is infront of you. It can make blocking certain attacks really easy if you switch as an attack is about to hit

I think your charge blade theory is pretty much on point, if you can execute that way you're good. guard point is for being optimal/style points you can live without btw if you don't need a gapcloser try this combo for fast phials: charged slash->shield bash->charged slash it's infinite but after 1 loop you should be fully charged

Mastering guard point is the way you master charge blade. It's tough but important for the weapon. Enjoy the journey :)

Hey jay! While your still in low rank you should learn to master guard point becoz it helps counter an incoming monster and allow you to counter attack a monster which is a must especially when you reach high rank and g rank. And btw i advice that you make this armor set so that you could have a guard + skill becoz this allows you to be more invulnerable to blocking monster attacks and allows you to easily guard point. Recommended: Gravios helm (blademaster) Lavasioth chest Gravios arms Gravios waist Lavasioth legs This gives you guard +2 (if i remember) And you should use the auto block talisman that the game gave you

the main reason people are telling you to learn what a guard point is, is because it's something i'm pretty sure is mentioned in the tutorial where you morph to axe right as an attack hits you for a stronger block. it's not the fighting style so much as you are missing a tool from your toolkit. especially since there are a few other guard points you get after certain attacks

Impact gives stun damage, and I think the phials do flat damage, that is unaffected by hitzones? I think? Guardpoints are the end of morphing from axe to sword, or the beginning of sword to axe if you press X then immediately right bumper, it blocks just a second before transitioning. These are the strongest blocks in the game, if your shield is charged then they release a phial explosion on hit. You can also use the touch screen, the Kick button on that, to perform these transitions.

To this day, 4U is still my fav monster hunter, i had bought a N3DSXL and 4U came with it which was awesome cause i wanted a N3DSXL especially for MH4U. I still have my old save and i had over 3k hours played total.

“Give me the 4U characters” They have been, lol. They’re all in Generations, the Ace Cadet is in World, and Minayle in Sunbreak is Little Miss Forge. (There’s some debate over Minayle due to her hair color and what I’m positive is misinterpretation over something she says about her clothing-she says it’s based on a smith’s she met a long time ago, but the clothing she’s wearing isn’t based on Little Miss Forge’s in terms of function (which his what she explicitly refers to) it’s based on *The Man’s*, just in her colors. You can also see that she has the exact same mask, sits like The Man, nods her head while talking like Little Miss Forge, and raises her hand in same way she did. They have the same dream, same eye color, so on and so forth: she just became a redhead somehow.

It might be a good idea to research Guard Points a bit more, as when mastered can allow you to punish roars with a SAED. This is coming from a CB user who almost exclusively uses the sword mode in a counter-attack style, however.

I think it is safe to say, at this point, Jay understands why so many of us were pushing 4U so hard as a game that must be experienced. You get a decently compelling story where more hunts serve a specific purpose instead of just 'go fight this' or 'whoops this monster showed up and needs to not be there.' You get memorable characters you want to spend more time with even after it's time to say goodbye. A bunch of the mechanics--from Poogie's costumes to the Palico island--add to the experience instead of just being a side gig, even if they could use a little bit of quality of life adjustments if they ever remake the game. And top it all off with that cinematic revealing you've been making a rival with an elder dragon larva this entire time? Sets up such great stakes right in time for the story's final boss. I don't think there's much advice to add this time, outside of dealing with flying monsters. Flash bomb range is surprisingly short, so judging them can be difficult. I don't remember if 4U has the option of throwing a bomb at your feet (by not touching any direction and making sure you came to a stop before using it) or not. But do keep in mind you have some attacks that have some surprising vertical range, such as the backwards overhead slash with the sword. Considering how often what you're hitting is a tail or legs, you can knock monsters out of the air far more often than you might thing you'd be able.

used to love Completing achievements lists in games. Then they decided to thow in terrible Multi-player achievements either hard to get or long to get. i think that and long tedious collectables killed the idea of completing an achievements list for many. and now i see achievements mainly as in indicator of how far the average player got into the game.
