Sorry to tell you, It's not an isekai. Alot of people misunderstand about isekai. Isekai is when the character is transported into another world or reincarnated in another world. So anime like this, Shangri La Frontier, Bofuri and SAO are not isekai. They are just playing games. Ya i know it's kinda confusing.

It's not transportation to another world, it's just a game and Shangri La is one of the series that examines that difference the best by actually exploring and exploiting game mechanics and different gaming genres. Another inherent difference is that divers get to explore things in both the game world and the character's real worlds. Most virtual dive game series fail on capitalizing on their genre because the authors either have knowledge limited to or choose to use mechanics only inherent to old mmorpgs, making it feel like isekai. While a lot of isekai borrow game systems from old mmorpgs for no real reason or rhyme, so it's definitely easy to see why there's not much of a difference but I chalk that up to incompetent writers and not that the genres are the same.

Its definitely an isekai. People take the definition of isekai way to literally. If someone has a full overhaul of all of their senses when in a game then its essentially another world. It works like an isekai and feels like an isekai, thats what matters
