@@gc3k Yeah..... Plus some reviewer makes an edgy video about it failing and all of a sudden the youngins that need to be told what to like, god forbid they have an original thought....that might not be the same as everyone else.....the horror, latch onto it and now every time Judge Dredd is mentioned we get to sit through the same old talking points, blah blah helmet, blah blah rob shneider, etc. And on that point, they cant even pick up on the pointing out rob shneider thing is effectively satirical....Hes not a bad actor (I mean, also doesnt get to show off how good he can be either very much. And he does play annoying characters as part of his schtick) but since the 'tell me what to think so I dont have to worry about being different from my friends and are therefore subjected to assumptions upon my character of how awful I must be to form an opinion like that, like we do to everyone else but call it fighting for inclusivity, Senpai!!!' generation just hears 'aaand of course, rob shneider' they think it must be a bad movie because he is in it. Honestly, by the way, youngins. its because hes not afraid to have fun doing a schlocky movie, so its more the other way around. If he is in a movie its a sign its campy, light, and fun. Not a universal indicator its trash (unless you honestly dont like Rob....which....why? what did he do to you?) .... Point is, the amount of shade thrown on the 90s and oughts by people who were barely a cumstain on the mattress at the time IS TOO DAMN HIGH!!!! @davfree9732
@davfree9732 Жыл бұрын
Dredd isn’t hopeful. But he did gain perspective. He saw Anderson go from not looking ready… to looking ready. He heard her rationale when dispensing justice. And even if it wasn’t the verdict he’d give, as a judge she needs to have confidence to give a verdict that she can justify that fits without the rule of law… and critically… She holds herself to the rules. Even if she lost her gun, she didn’t stop dispensing justice. She stuck it out throughout her entire assessment and only when it was over did she give up her badge. Compared to the rogue judges she stuck to the rules because she demonstrated she believes in them. That’s one thing you can’t teach in a class but that Anderson possesses. A willingness to hold herself accountable within the rules, which means she will hold herself within the rule of law.

@Xylarxcode Жыл бұрын
Anderson is a returning character in the comics and one of the few that comes closest to what you might consider a friend to Dredd. That obviously doesn't mean they're all chummy and chatty, but there is mutual respect there. Dredd takes her advice seriously and respectfully and she's one of few people who can claim that honor. This movie must be from early in the timeline, since she's still a rookie on her assessment here and it's apparent that Dredd hasn't gained a widespread reputation yet, as evidenced by the fact that Ma-Ma doesn't know who he is, but his fellow judges do. He's still building up his rep and only those he works with know how ruthless and efficient he is.

I fucking love this movie! On the surface it's an action movie with a bare bones plot, which is exactly what a Judge Dredd movie should be, and yet it has this subtle depth and beauty. Take this final scene in the elevator, where Dredd is patching Anderson's wound. It's intensely intimate, not so much in a sexual way, but simply from the contrast of Dredd showing anyone any kind of tenderness at all. Yet it only comes at a point in the film after Anderson has lost any vulnerability she had. It's a perfect little bow on what's actually a very tragic movie.

@@Shozb0t She may have decided to develop other skills besides just sensing minds. She did get captured by a gang member. She should have sensed him coming. The only reason she wasn't dead is the guy tried to shoot her with her own gun. I don't know if the gun blew up completely or just part of it but it did take off the guy's hand.

I normally dont like action movies, but the futuristic nature, and subtle character traits and behavior is interesting. Its interesting he passes her after she refuses treatment...like him. He mentioned her reason for becoming a judge was "admirable", and with the way Dredd allowed the homeless man to walk away if he didnt get killed, as well as ignoring the clinic...her saying,. "I knew she would...', one is because shes I believe psychic, but also obviously knows him, and is aware of his character. It allows the viewer to see the human, in what most films would only show his practical, straight application and no mercy attitude, but this film shows or suggest a different nature character behind the helmet, that can be expanded upon.

Would love a sequel, set years later where Dredd and Anderson haven’t crossed paths since the “drug bust”. Anderson, a highly respected judge gets caught in a hugely dangerous situation, alongside a few other judges, a 1024 is called… Dredd arrives. Anderson and Dredd meet again, Dredd gives a short but reassuring greeting accompanied by a small nod. “Anderson” says Dredd in his low, rough tone. They both give each other a similar look, as if recalling a past situation. A sense of confidence creeps across Anderson’s face, with a slight smirk. Judgement time…

When you think about it giving Dredd a partner like Anderson in this movie was rather brilliant, because unlike Stallone’s this version of Dredd isn’t really meant to be a character, he’s more like an idea, like the physical personification of law and order, which I think is why he never removes his helmet, because we’re not meant to see the human being inside of him, and so Anderson is like the counterbalance to that idea, her we see and we do get to know about her character and backstory, and so she’s there to offer the audience the characterization that Dredd doesn’t have while Dredd is there to to be the symbol of justice that carries out all of duties and responsibilities

I love this ending. A lot of folks saying it’s just another day for Dredd. I get the sense that there are a handful of days on the job over his career that change/inform the way he uses his rage, and who he lets scratch the surface just a little bit. Notice it’s the first time he calls her Anderson instead of rookie. Hard to impress him, so in a way he makes a small change by the end of the film as well. If we had a fair world, we’d have seen Urban twice more in 90 minute, self contained stories. And while I love Thirlby, I like the idea of never seeing Anderson again. Makes it all that more special. Anyway, that’s just my opinion. But man how amped I get when that fuzzed-out guitar stats up

God I love this movie...sad thing about It, I didn't even know it was in theatres or that the damn thing had been made...I really think that's the big reason it didn't do so hot in the theatres....the promotional campaign for this movie was almost non existent. Saw it a year after it had been in theatres and was absolutely blown away...the only movie that has captured Judge Dreed correctly, and it was exciting and interesting. We get endless sequels to the shittiest Marvel movies and we don't get a sequel for this movie? Bullshit.

One thing people don't seem to be highlighting is, he _Bent the rules_ for her. By the rules, she failed. 100%, no wiggle room. But he says she's a pass. For someone like Dredd, to whom the rules are everything, that's huge.
@82dupont
@82dupont 3 жыл бұрын
He did not bend the rules, she had already failed and was being used as a guinea pig because of her telepathic abilities. She was being judged on her abilities as a telepathic judge and being able to balance those abilities out with law enforcement ability. Remember she let the IT guy with robotic eyes go free? From Dredd’s perspective he was guilty, Anderson however was able to see his forced cooperation and the suffering Ma Ma put him through with threat of violence and death. Anderson charged him with a misdemeanor. He passed her because once she was able to get a clearer picture of a person she judged more accurately than a non telepathic judge and her body of work under those conditions could not be denied even by Dredd.

maybe those aren't hard and fast rules. Maybe Dredd is given full rein to assess her and the rules he set out are just his personal criteria.

To give her "another chance" wasnt Dredds call from the start since he would never do that. He does respect his superiors however, or at least the system and he is willing to honor it. And it is obvious throughout the movie that Anderson grows alot on him, saving then from several situations during the day. Personally, I think the fact that she actually saves his life, and that she gives a sort of not-guilty verdict to the techguy, which Dredd probably wouldnt but he can see that she giving a lawful and honest sentence to a man caught under circumstances, is what makes her pass in his eyes The small nods he will give her proves to me that he actually respects her. "You look ready" and by calling her Anderson instead of Rookie is about as much recogniton Dredd can give you I reckon
