That's my biggest issue, Skate 2 was a proper open world game, dividing up the map into isolated areas separated by loading screens just feels like a massive step backwards in terms of game design. I'm amazed this wasn't talked about in this video as it's the most glaring problem with Skate 3 in my opinion.

@@KorAsek453 Same here. The skate 3 map is just so meh and I wonder if it's because the game was rushed so much that they just never had time to finish it? Maybe the university was supposed to be up top, then go through the suburb hills into a suburb type area, and then onto downtown, and lastly to the port area? Even still, the spots aren't really all that good. They're all pretty uninteresting apart from maybe the port area which had the ghetto spot and that cool skate plaza. That's about it.

Heh, I wouldn't say Skate 3's biggest downfall was dividing the map into 3 sections. In fact, I don't really care about it. What I DID care about, was the level design itself. The Skate 3 map is fun, there are some great spots and there is great time to be had. But it is a significant notch less well-designed and fun to play as in Skate 2. Skate 2 feels more realistic, and with the spots that are not only more life-like, but also just more interesting. The big staircases in the downtown area of Skate 2 feel way more satisfying to jump than any staircase in Skate 3. Going down full speed steep streets is also so much more fun. I mean, don't get me wrong, I love the different downhill areas at the observatory, but it's something different, less realistic. More comparable to the dam. The most comparable would the the suburb area leading to the skate park in Skate 3. But it is soooo less fun, steep and interesting than what you have in Skate 2. And I could go on. Skate 3 probably has the most complete set of tricks and better animations (including bail animations), but it is mostly the level design that hurts the game. And even then the gameplay feels a bit less realistic, a bit further away from what made me get into the original Skate so much.

It gave birth to "Tricklining", which took the attention away from the realism that made the series good in the first place. I hope to god Skate 4 is like Skate 1 and 2, and it doesn't try to be over the top like Skate 3. I do like how Skate 3 had more features, but the glitches and cartoony vibe of it just drags it down for me

@@revere1991 Nah, I still have fun with Skate 3. I am just pointing out the faults in it. Skate 3 has these glitches, because it was a rushed game. Chances are Skate 4 will be way more polished since they have way more time to develop it, meaning it will hopefully kill the ugly "art" that is tricklining. Posers like X7 Albert have made me grow a hatred of tricklining, because of how big-headed they are to people who want to play the game realistically. If you watch his Session videos, then you will see what I am talking about. If they act like that to people like myself who enjoy playing the game realistically, then they can't expect me to respect tricklining.

Man I love the atmosphere of skate 2! The looks, the general yellowness of the lighting, and the awesome music to bundle it all up into many hours of exploring. Some of the best memorie I have of playing a game as a kid.

I personally enjoyed myself more in skate 2. The only thing i remember grinding my gears was the horrible performance in the 2nd game which was kinda fixed in the third one. It might have been franchise fatigue that hurt my overall experience with skate 3 even tho it improved on many things.

Have to say, I disagree on the deathrace part. If you fall off your board, you should lose, unless your opponents make a mistake and fall as well, which happens from time to time with the AI. More importantly, the races aren't even really that long and it's a lot more rewarding to finish them without falling anyway. If you do fall, just restart and learn from it.

Skate 2 was so much more fun as the game had a sense of realism to it and it made you feel like a genuine skateboarder whereas with Skate 3 the game is more un-realistic and it just looks too polished for my taste. That's not to say that Skate 3 isn't good because it is however i feel Skate 2 overall is just a better game for it's graphics and how it makes you feel more alive than any of the other skate games. The grittiness of the environment was just mesmerizing too. The meg parks also were just better and so much more iconic than the Supra Ultra Mega Park in Skate 3. The name of the park just kinda imitates the entire game if you think about it. It's gone to town with the polished look and it feel they just emptied their entire imagination into the game without thinking about the reality and actual gritty feel of skateboarding. And the fact it has a class map that is just amazing with the environment you're released into like there are so many hidden spots you can find on the map it's genuinely suprising how many players hadn't found some of the spots I've found personally. Plus it had Big Black, How can you not say Skate 2 isn't a better game lmao

Also the multiplayer was playable with one controller which for me was huge because I only had one controller, skate 3 missed all of that but delivered in a way that the locations are fun to skate around and the game is actually enjoyable

coming back to this after replaying skate2 for the first time in many many years. i still feel as if skate 3 had just a slight bit more fluidity in its on foot controls, and a new map which, although its segmented, is pretty cool in its own right. i love skate 2, but after playing a shitton of the original skate, it felt a little half assed in terms of a map expansion. i now play skate 2 for the sole fact that its skate.(1st) with better gfx, slightly more map and you can get off your board.

What you said about the city as atmosphere of skate 2 compared to 3 is the reason why I stopped playing 3, it’s too bright and pretty, on top of that, they make 3 small maps instead of one gigantic map, I loved the travel from slappeys all the way to the lighthouse and every small place in between, did you know about the hidden snake pit? I played skate 1 and 2 religiously and still do to pass time. but skate 3... 😞skate 3 I had to put up because coming from a skateboarders point of view who strives for realism, 3 ain’t it dawg, it’s a disappointment compared to the last 3 games(yes I included skate it), I’d rather play skate it on DS or iPhone than slide skate 3 into my ps3 again before looking for the first 2

I went back and forth with this last year but overall I take skate 3 bc of the content creation tools. The skate 2 off board controls are too clunky and the career challenges become way too difficult mid to late game. I think the skating looks cooler in 2 and the city is more interesting to explore but 3 is still the go to.

To add onto precision and controls, you can combo grinds in Skate 2 so much easier. For example in Skate 3 (even on hardcore) if I wanted to do say, a back smith to crook or back tail to fakie crook on the same ledge, Skate 3 pushes you away from the ledge after you pop out of the first grind which makes doing combos like that so much harder. Skate 2 doesn't do that.

Hell they rushed 3 so much they still have seams you can look right through the map in the university map, the AI is shit, you can never do a dark catch and have your foot not go through the board, glitchy as hell, the world is too bright, also you enjoyed 3 small maps instead of 1 ginormous map that had HIDDEN places for you look for and create your own street spot, not the “you start at the top and it’s a straight line down, no alleys, just a straight line that ends to a dead end”.To be completely honest skate 3 reminds me of that terrible tony hawks downhill jam game, but I knew I was getting into a tony hawk game and enjoyed it for what it was, but skate 3 is a disappointment compared to its predecessors, love to hear your opinion tho!!!
