I just picked up Sally Clarkson’s “mission of motherhood” yesterday and appreciated that she made the same point about motherhood. Our mission as mothers is to follow Christ and let our Christian walk naturally flow into our lives as women, wives, and mothers. Apparently that is a truth I needed to hear this week!

I live slowly and simply, and reap so much spiritual fruit from it. It is not selfish *at all* to prioritize slowing down for the purpose of health and wellness.

The Bible is centered on agriculture and organic living. Even the parables were very agricultural in nature. Agricultural living is slow living. Also the fruits of the spirit is more conducive when we live slowly...not to be confused with lazy living. Slow living is a characteristic of contemplation and critical thinking in all you do.

Do you farm? Agricultural living is not slow. It’s not necessarily the typical city life rat race, but it’s hard work pretty much all day, everyday. It’s not the sweet, simple, slow aesthetic that is pictured. It’s filled with constant concern and even some stress over crops and animals, and the rising prices and the push to rid of family farms.

Yes true the Holy Spirt has shown me that I can’t walk in the Spirit if I am always in my mind, being in a hurry, on guard, occupied with multi tasking or focusing on the future and not the present. I have had to slow down in order to hear my thoughts and to meditate on God’s word. I find it easier to make a godly decision when I’m not in the flesh doing all the fleshly thinking.

@@kaylanoah1109 the process of growing and raising your food is slow. It's not microwave or artificial. You depend in the elements to bring food from seed to a condition that is edible. Hard work yes but slow process to get to harvesting

@@kathialaguerre1074we live on a farm and I completely agree with you! Lived in the city my whole life working in the corporate world. Life is busy and still requires hard work but more contemplative and in flow with Gods natural design for our lives. It’s been wonderful!

I kinda envy the time you two take to sit and discuss topics in depth. Maybe my hubby and I should start a podcast so we can have deep convos too! 😂

The message/encouragement of not letting “crunchiness” become an idol has been helpful to me. I also enjoy bringing others into my world. :) I have Celiac disease and have been learning a lot about nutrition and non-toxic living. It’s neat to make food for people that they enjoy, and I can eat it guilt-free. I also enjoy the opportunity to spoil visitors from out of town with baked goods and foods they can eat on a strict diet - SF, GF, DF…

Also in addition to my comment: the shut down definitely brought back slow living and God is sovereign. He brought many back to that as no one had any other choice but to retreat to the original way of things

The biggest aspect of Biblical living ..a type of slow living IS community. And also the roles of man and woman and family exudes that as well. My app is not working so I can't edit put everything in one post. Thanks

I love how balanced you guys are about this topic. Slow living has kind of been a trend for a while now but it definitely exploded in 2020. It seems like more recently slow living has become more of just another trendy and somewhat expensive Instagram aesthetic. Back when we got married 15 years ago we were doing it out of nessesity because we were poor. I made my own bread from scratch, we didn't buy much, and what we did came from thrift stores. We only had one car and lived in an old mobile home. We did some organic farming and the slow food movement was pretty big at that time. It just seems that slow living has turned into so much more than it was then with its own set of rule.that you have to measure up to.

Great podcast, I enjoyed it. Thanks. I have got caught up a few times in some weird healthy movenents like veganism to zero waste, just to find out im sideeying the ones who are not doing it and being annoyed by them, and then ending being the one who is miserable 😅I Just wanted to do it right, but i got kinda arrogant in the process, thinking im making a difference but at the same time knowing its having no real impact..so yes... gotta take step back and look at the big picture :) and asking your self what is your mission here...

The world calls it minimalism, but we Christians already taught this - it’s called living in simplicity.

I am not sure how to send in questions but I need advice and wanted to know your thoughts. My best friend and I have been friends for over 20 years, she was Christian and our families celebrated the holidays together each year. However she recently became a Norse Pagan and celebrates pagan holidays. She still wants to celebrate Christmas and Easter together but I am not sure if that is the right thing to do. I love her and I pray she comes back to Jesus, nothing else on our relationship has changed but I don’t feel comfortable celebrating what I consider spiritual holidays with them any more. Am I wrong for doing that?

If she is not a Christian she cannot celebrate the Birth, death, or resurrection of the savior. If she is looking to celebrate the holidays with you in a cultural Santa centered Christmas or bunny centered Easter then it has to be a no bc Christians should not be celebrating those days in that way.

I don’t think slow living means lazy living. James 1:19 in scriptures says that we should be eager to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. So slowing down to think before we speak or act is important to God. We should be quick in other areas like listening and helping others. Slow down to react appropriately to different situations and people.
