Smacking doesn’t work, I was smacked a huge amount during my childhood and all it created was a resentment towards my mother and a total breakdown in my relationship with her as an adult, not to mention the lesson I learnt that someone telling me they loved me but also hitting me was ‘normal’… that led to some insanely abuse relationships. This woman is totally selfish and deluded.

Either you were smacked inappropriately, or you're just the exception rather than the rule. A 2007 Otago University study found that children who were smacked in a reasonable way had similar or slightly better outcomes in terms of aggression, substance abuse, adult convictions and school achievement than those who were not smacked at all. [A large American study reported in 2013 found similar results.] Also, ample studies show the devastating long term impact of smacking bans. We have the most data from Sweden, which was the first country to ban smacking, and unfortunately New Zealand seems to be following the same sad trajectory (just look up Family First for the full 2016 and 2020 reports).

There is also possibility that there could be subconscious issues you have yet to realize or it could’ve just taught you that talking negatively about your parents, even in an calm and respectful manner is disrespect or in other words it could’ve taught you that your parents are more or less Gods.

Your teaching them violence which is not the way the world works. Teachers can’t hit students, men can’t hit their wives. It just teaches them to be scared of their own parent .

I can't disagree with Rebecca Jane's comments about children being unruly. When I'm out in public and see children, I don't find any particularly unruly. You do get the occasional one, but if that's so, then that's down to the parents, generally. Smacking makes children's behaviour worse, not better; it's as black and white as that, I'm afraid. Thankfully, the legislation did pass in Scotland, and also in Wales.

So much ignorance from the woman in favour of smacking. You can see it everytime she stays her opinion, because of how she draws conclusions using conformation bias instead of using actually reached and proven evidence. I emphasize though because she's really fighting against herself. If she doesn't argue her point, she has to face the fact that she's caused damage to get children for nothing, and address the fact that if she was hit, she suffered abuse and everything that comes along with dealing with that. The body and brain will fight against hard things like that, by justifying abuse and mistreatment. So I feel sorry for her

Here's where I disagree with blondy. If she had to smack her child only twice then she obviously didn't learn her lesson the first time. Which shows slapping doesn't work 😊

Many children nowadays know exactly what boundaries that they can push and exactly how much that they can get away with because they know that they're not faced with the threat of a smacked bottom and will eventually get one every time that they ignore repeated warnings to stop misbehaving or continually won't do what they're told to do when they're told to do it. Children are not worried about being put in naughty corners, time outs, being sent to their bedroom, being grounded, detained, or even suspended. These punishments rarely if ever work with today's children. But I couldn't imagine any child that would enjoy getting their bottom smacked, especially if it were done in front of others. We need to remember that it's the role of adults to discipline or punish children, not the other way around. If you are a child and you continue to misbehave or be disobedient after you've been warned about it several times, then regardless of whether you are 7 or 17 you deserve to get your bottom smacked either by your parents, teacher, guardian, or any other adult figure of authority. And it only needs to be one moderate smack with the open palm of the hand on a clothed bottom. This should send a clear message to the naughty or disobedient child not to repeat the same behaviours again. Most sane children will get the message if smacking is done this way and isn't done in an abusive manner that would cause them either physical hurt or pain, or would make them cry.

I was smacked and it didnt traumatize me ive never even really thought about it. I definitely think having a strict dad (nit abusive, STRICT) made me a better behaved child
