Yeah the Sony 135mm is probably the best lens, but I couldn’t afford it, so I’m using the Samyang 135mm 1.8 at more than half the price of $800. The Sony here in the USA sells for $1800 dollars and sometimes more. I’m very satisfied with the quality of the Samyang, it’s pretty amazing.

@@PavSZ I like the way that you review lenses, so I will trust your judgment and purchase the 1.2 within three weeks. I use lenses for movies, so the reviews about photography sensibilities don't mean much to me. Ans until I get the new Sony camera with the global shutter, I am not interested in motion and in autofocus because I favor static shots, or slow pans. I have the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, maybe the best ever made 135mm of all time ! Update of the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM in 2023, September, the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM is big and heavy, I rarely use autofocus and I rarely use larger aperture than 2.8, so now when I also have the excellent Voigtländer Macro APO-Lanthar 110mm 2.5 which is smaller and lighter, built like a tank and have outstanding optical image quality, then I rarely use the Sony !

@PavSZ3 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely right but those two lenses are just two opposites and just couldn't be compared side by side. Both great in their own right but just like everything else in life ... you can always find something better and sometimes you just make the best out of what you got. Sony 135mm f1.8 GM is a very expensive purchase and as they say, you get what you pay for. In comparison to 98% of all other lenses, it's superior but then, there is the other 2% that just feel and perform better bit don't forget that it is all subjective - it will be different for everyone.
@paatras3 жыл бұрын
@@PavSZ you are right and I am agree with you. But sometimes the Otus lenses are forgotten when it comes to best IQ lenses, I guess cause they are MF, and their IQ it is something that you notice right away when you usually work with them. :)

Everyone has to agree to disagree I guess. I have used the 135mm numerous times and was going to buy, but then I saw a batis 135mm for a unreal price refurbished with warranty so I took the plunge. It arrived yesterday and I used it on a shoot and I was blown away with the sharpness and painterly bokeh. The gm lens is amazing but clinical in its rendering to my eye. Af is spot on colors pop check it out. I used the gm lens during this years Oscars and it was just okay. Several fashion shows award shows and portraits but I'm excited about the batis.

The 90mm Macro is still MUCH sharper, has less aberrations AND has that ''3D pop'' or whatever you want to call it, that you typically get only with Voigtlander, Zeiss, Hasselblad and Leica lenses - whereas the 135mm GM does not have that ''3D pop'' effect, it has some minor aberration issues and is not nearly as sharp as the 90mm Macro.

This is NOT the king of primes, that is an absurd title to give. We all have different needs and preferences. This is the sharpest prime for Sony but there are many sharp primes and some with nicer bokeh as well like the Sigma 135mm Art and the even smoother 105mm. So to claim X or Y lens is the King of primes is just silly.
