After 4 years of following numerous (50) review blogs about this hobby, is that “product reviewers” have more effectively educated the public about this rather “opaque” industry, and consumer standards are now much more “demanding” based on “real-time-FACTS”. I realize VE has been doing its projector shoutouts for a decade or two and are the pioneers of this genre. 👏👏👏👍👍👍 But that is only once or twice a year. Over the last few years, product reviews have - exploded - worldwide and occur on a daily basis. I’m not sure manufacturers and dealers were quite prepared for the longer-term impact from the legions of HT enthusiasts. What started off as yet another way to just market directly to targeted audiences has had the unintended consequence of that audience “talking-back” directly to the manufacturers and sometimes - not in terms they expected and with some unintended negative sales effects, I should think?Sony is one such case-in-point - in my very humble opinion. Clearly, it is now “listening” and making the necessary engineering adjustments to catch-up, for example, in its consumer line of projectors. That is good to see and a worthy long term benefit of this whole experience from a HT theatre hobbyists point-of-view. This industry is extremely competitive and you clearly can’t take your eye-off-the-ball for even a second, it seems. One wonders how much heart-burn medication industry execs must have to consume in a year? 😂😱

you don't have to buy the latest and greatest! I have bought all my projectors at either half price or a third of the price. Just wait a couple of years, someone will sell you this exact projector in 2 years with 2000 hours on it for 6000 euro or less :) then you use it for a couple of years, and someone else gets it for 4000 euro.

I got one last month, and I absolutely love it! Since this is my first projector, I can’t really compare it to others, but I’m very impressed with its performance so far. I was initially torn between the NZ800 and the Sony 6100 but ultimately went with the Sony due to its better throw distance capabilities and slightly superior compatibility with the PS5.
@pconycКүн бұрын
What do you mean by "better throw distance capability"? Trying to figure out NZ800 vs this Sony too...thx for any input!
@sprint11021 сағат бұрын
@@pconyc My room has a maximum throw distance of 167 inches. Within this space, the NZ800 can project a maximum screen size of 134 inches (16:9 aspect ratio), whereas the Sony 6100 can project a larger screen size of 143 inches. Additionally, I’ve been told by some projector experts that the Sony offers superior processing capabilities and a slight advantage for gaming on the PS5. These factors make the Sony my preferred choice over the JVC.

As I recall, as noted in a video about JVC at CEDIA 2022? . . . a JVC exec noted they had a NEW laser technology that they were working on. I thought by now, they would have announced it, but obviously not yet. What I find fascinating is how JVC has taken their electronic technology from a totally different perspective than Sony: Aircraft simulation monitors vs traditional cinema technology. So when you innocently say: “Watch out JVC” - I think the obverse maybe truer . . . instead, it’s “Watch-out-Sony!”. Sony got caught with its “technology-pants” down in 2020-2021/22 by JVC - now only catching-up with a new video processing chip. Yet, I don’t think it will be enough, that is unless Sony corporately has decided to change its perspective too? If not, I somehow think Sony will get “blindsided” again in the video projector space. Of course, only time / competition will tell, but your headline: ‘Watch-out JVC” - I think belies what JVC technologically has percolating in the background. I have to wonder if JVC is about to kick Sony’s butt yet again with it? Maybe next year? As JVC is operating in a totally different market than Sony, I should think JVC is not thinking corporately in terms of competition with Sony, but instead, just trying to make their products better. Bettering Sony then is just a side benefit that JVC can just take some pride in - for a few moments - while they move on listening to a - different technological drummer.

That's not a projector manufacturer choice. That's the directors of the movies choice.

@ Thanks for your reply. I understand that. What I’m saying is there must be a way to display that aspect ratio without the bars natively. I’ve owned at least 10 projectors over the years. I’m sure it must be possible and something that enthusiasts would pay a premium for. Cheers!😊
@therealshanelee14 күн бұрын
@@spiderman0863 you can buy a projector with a scope lens. But then you'd have bars on the sides for 16x9 content. Get screen masking, problem solved for any aspect ratio.
@confinoj14 күн бұрын
@@spiderman0863 This is not possible. You choose a screen aspect ratio. The director chooses the aspect ratio of the content. If they don’t match you get black bars. That’s just basic geometry. You can do stretching and zooming with a video processor but then you are distorting the image in some way. The only good option to not have black bars is to have 4 way variable masking and a video processor. If you had 100% light control and a projector that was capable of true blacks then black bars wouldn’t be as noticeable but that’s not possible. The super pricey Christie Eclipse comes closest though.

If they can use Laser Phosphor for a light source, why in God's name are we not using a laser driven MEMS system shining on phosphor so that we could again have a raster scanning display capable of infinite contrast and CRT like motion clarity? All the engineering is already done and pico projectors exist that use it. I have a pair of Nebra Anybeam MEMS pico projectors and though they are low resolution, when I run them in Nvidia surround 60hz content looks as good in motion as it ever did on an old CRT.
